They're dated, don't have much of what many fans of 3~5 like about those three games, and there's no accessible clear cut way to play the games without tripups like the new soundtrack for P1P or the bastardized localization of the original or how we only have the PS1 version of EP and only the PSP version of IS

Because persona one sucks dick and the NA release of 2 was fucked up both times.

Having played only P3 + P3 FES, P3P seems pefectly fine. You won't see all the ending bullshit, but the ending bullshit basically culminates in "lol this one girl is more of a bitch and also the MC is a hovering plot point that will never be resolved because of all the horse shit surrounding Persona/Sega."
I highly recommend Devil Survivor Overclocked, having only played Overclocked. P1 and P2 are fucked in so many ways though, you might be better off watching others play them or not bothering with them at all. You don't need to enjoy old games anon.

They're more like SMT than post P3 Persona, so people that only play Persona tend to dislike them, and most Megaten fans on /v/ are hardcore contrarian cunts so they tend to either not talk about them very much or shit on them just for being Persona. P2 generally seems pretty popular here but you won't see anyone make a thread just for it.

There's not much to talk about, really. The first game is pretty simple and short, and the second ones have been discussed to death anyway. The only great thing they offered was the story, while the gameplay was pretty meh. Don't know about the PSP version of IS though, I suffered through the PS1 version because EPP wasn't finished at the time.

I love both modern Persona and mainline SMT but I didn't like 2 IS much. The characters are interesting, and they carried me to the credits, but playing the game really is a slog. It's not engaging like SMT, it's not stylish like modern Persona, it's just kind of there. Lots of auto battling and repetitive negotiation for cards.

The Ending and Opening are both solid, and the vocal tracks have their own style as well.
I'm not gonna claim that they're the best in either series, but they're still really good.

I personally really liked A Lone Prayer(Battle Theme), Let the Butterflies Spread Until Dawn (Overworld Theme), Bloody Destiny (Boss Theme) and especially School Days (School/Mall Theme).

The only track I'd say is a lot worse off than the Original OST would be Pandora's Battle, but even that's okay just way too short for the length of that battle.

I tried playing them, but they are definitely dated, so I read and listened to a few synopses. Having to grind the same old shit for arcana cards is plain tedium as well.

It worries me too, because I still haven't played SMT 1 and 2, and I really want to try them, but afraid that the game play will be too dated for me to remain engaged as well.

The best part about this is the fact that Shoji wrote the original song. So he managed to fuck up his own song. He did this with the Velvet Room theme as well by not remaking the original (once again his own work) while also replacing it with a complete hack job version of the current version.

Different anon here, but P1's battle system has a ton of stuff going on. You have melee and ranged weapons on each character, a gorillion damage types and status ailments, a grid map to position your party on. I'm actually surprised people don't like it, it has a ton of stuff going on for it.

Especially when the more rabid P3 fans went FUCKING INSANE when Persona 4 removed two damage types (Pierce and Blunt), I'm surprised they don't love Persona 1 and it's millions of damage types like Blast, Tech, Whip, Gun, Nuclear, Expel and the like.

Here's why:
Autotune route is SEBEC which forces Mark onto you. He has shotgun and axe which both have absolutely retarded hitboxes.
It's, as you say, very nice, but has crippling flaws (mostly about not being able to hit anybody in some cases) that can rather easily be fixed with reduced damage/accuracy.
It took PQ to give at least the back/front distinction.

I love P2 dungeons because they're set in normal urban places and buildings. Interiors also have nice amount of details and look pretty stylish in that 2.5D or whatever it's called.

The amount of flavor text each NPC has is also amazing. It's fresh after each story event. Feels like there's more flavor text than P3/P4 combined. Maybe even more than P5 with all its corridor chatter etc.
Makes the game alive and I just enjoy visiting all the shops and just talking to people and chill between dungeons.

Persona 1 has the absolute most KINO opening

Can't do that in EP, which makes it even more of a slog. Though that doesn't have the 20 second load screens for battles that PSP version of IS had.

Problem with P1 combat is that by default it's lots of fake depth. It has lots of moving parts, but you don't actually need to interact with them.
Just set autobattle to use your strongest skills at the time and turn off your brain while you roam around dungeons.

Lots of moving parts are only good if they are used in interesting manner, and not there just to be there.
