What is your honest opinion on foods in BotW?
Do you think they should be nerfed?

they are fine, if you think they are too strong just dont use them

extra heart / stamina food is the only food worth cooking
Stackable meat is also pretty useful, but just shoot animals with fire arrows to get that.
>>
Adding a cooldown for food would probably have been a good idea, for hard mode at least.

Otherwise you get invincible once you have fucked around enough.

Th game is casual anyway so who cares

only useful for environment resistances, but once you get armor for that food is useless unless you suck.
>>
They needed to nerf how cooking a single hearty food item is pretty much a full heal. Either make it only give extra hearts of have the items themselves be harder to find

Link can now carry five pages of INGREDIENTS for food, but only two pages for actual foodstuffs you can eat.

You need to combine five separate items in order for you to get a full-restore, and the cooking minigame now has times for you to cook things. A simmered apple pie that you put in the pot for two seconds tastes and heals 25 percent more than a pie you left in for ten that's just charred remains. Foods with only one or two items will never restore more than like five or six. Ultra rare ingredients will pop up occasionally from enemies that shine and sparkle, meaning that if you make a dish with that ingredient you'll get extra hearts to use.

Link now has an animation in the overworld where he'll begin to eat, meaning you can't just go into a menu and scarf down 30 apples anymore. He's also got a fullness meter that he needs to walk off through diet and exercise/time passage. You'll never be punished for going without food, and hunger without health restore can easily be satiated by eating a fruit, which is ready to eat at any time.

This requires Link to make better use of his cooking slots and make better ingredients. Possibly allow him to expand his cooking/materials inventory with Korok Seed upgrades.
>>
There should be a cooldown for food or Link should be able to get fat and slow similar to San Andreas. There, I fixed the cooking system.
>>
>>376077396
>chubby trap Link porn
Adding more fetishes isn't going to help
>>
It's fine as is. For hard mode, however, they should nerf it in some way. Either carry much less, create a real time eating animation where Link is vulnerable, have it take some time to take full effect, etc.
>>
From a balance perspective, they're pretty broken, but the problem with nerfing them (adding a cooldown or lowering the healing or something) is that makes finding the ingredients less satisfying.

Having a huge stack of shit to burn through as the result of collecting stuff only feels good if you can actually burn through it and get something for it.
>>
Hearty foods are the only things that need to be nerfed. Being able to have a fuckton of full heals with zero effort or planning required is pretty dumb.
>>
Odin Sphere syndrome but even more overelaborate and pointless.

Still haven't come across a game where cooking/alchemy/crafting/resource-gathering was actually fun and worth bothering with to an extent proportional to how much focus was put on it in the game and the effort it must have taken to implement it.
>>
they're mostly balanced, the only foods that actually need nerfs are the hearty ingredients

it's not hard to find 3-4 of them and just cooking one at a time gives a full HP restore each
>>
>>376077389
Now hang on, things like Rubies, Dragon bits, flint, wood, etc are all listed in the ingredients tab. Do they become their own tab?

Do fairy elixers heal you on death like normal fairies?
>>
>>376076564
It doesn't need a nerf. If players don't think it's fair, they can just -not- abuse the system.

Food doesn't stop you from getting 1-shot all day long if you suck.
>>
>>376076564
It's pretty broken.
No matter how much damage an enemy does you can just pause and stuff your face, making the extra damage worthless unless you get one shotted.

The first time in years they finally make enemies do good damage and they fuck it up.

I have to intentionally limit myself and eat after battles for it to not be piss easy.

Why the fuck do people believe that it's the player's job to balance the game for the developers.
>Food doesn't stop you from getting 1-shot all day long if you suck.
It's impossible to be one shot from full health and making full health meals are stupidly easy, so yes it actually does.

>For hard mode, however, they should nerf it in some way.

This is the one thing that makes me completely disappointed in hard mode. Upgrading the grades of the enemies is great, but totally pointless if they don't restrict eating as well. Together the idea would be perfect, but as it stands it feels like a pointless waste of effort for something the otherwise would have made the game that much better. It feels idiotic that they're this close to making the game actually challenging, yet despite putting all this effort into doing so they fall just short of really doing this, even for an optional mode. I really hope that such a simple fix is something they would have thought of.
>>
>>376079389
Well no shit if you mix a fairy into a potion with a fucking lizalfos tail it won't be 10/10. You mix stuff that makes sense.
>>
>>376079475
No, they're basically just novelty food for wasting extra lives on potions.
>>
>>376079389
>not adding the fairy to the existing hearty recipe
You played yourself.
>>
>>376076564
>pause and heal
Its one of the biggest problems with the game
>>
The game really needed some type of cookbook or food journal. Also, it shouldn't recover all your health at once.
>>
I don't really mind it just wish for a cooldown I guess. But I guess you might need to buff the food with the 1 heart moving to 4 or something like that. Personally I honestly wish you could make hour long buffs like Heat/Cold resistance. Witcher 1 I feel did buffs right with really long buffs but they were fairly weak.
>>
Just having going to the inventory not pause the game would make things much better. You can still stuff yourself with food, but you have to scroll through the items to get there as you are beaten around.
>>
>>376076564
I like the idea of a fullness meter.
Having real time eating animations doesn't really work because it's easy to create distance between you an enemies, on the account of the open map design and the extensive movement options you need for the exploration bit of the game.
>>
>Link has to actually eat the food mid-combat a-la Monster Hunter
there I fixed the game. Nintendo fucked up with the Dragons Dogma "pause the game for almost infinite health" food mechanic
>>
>>376076564
Cooking was really cool, but hearty stuff was overpowered.

The game also had the Dragon's Dogma problem where you'd get hit once and immediately go to the menu to scarf down stuff to heal. Eating food should've been in real time, and interruptible.
>>
>>376080295
thanks
>>
>>376076564
>1 heart up item
>1 healing item
>full health
I don't have as much of an issue with spamming meals as I do that a small hearty radish and an apple fully replenishes your health.

/thread

It's like healing items in DMC. They're just there for casuals to feel better about themselves.
