I will never buy a nintendo console ever since Miyamoto said they could do nothing new with the f-zero series. the nip is so delusional that he really can't see that he's been milking the same several franchises for the last few decades, or he's just plain retarded.
As far as the 'lack of demand' for an f-zero game, it's probably because the last main one came out in 2002 and everyone's forgot about it, and the new kiddos no nothing about it.

20 in Japan over a month out isn't terrible for a new IP. It'll probably hit 30 or so, and then when reviews come it will land anywhere from 30 to 200 based on how good the reviews and previews are.

That's an extremely small factor. You know what the biggest factor is? The console, which is going to switch(tm) from a shitty poor selling WiiU console to the Switch, which is going to slaughter the WiiU in sales by the end of the year (if production allows it to do so). The fact that the Switch is portable is going to make Splatoon 2 go bonkers, just like how Monhun is all the rage now. Portability is a bigger factor than if the online costs money.

I'd expect ARMS to actually reach 1M woldwide sales just based on the fact that the Switch is a new console without many games, and ARMS is getting the sort of hype Splatoon got pre-release. You can see this on consoles every time, for example mediocre PS4 and Xbone games still sold early on when that was all you could get for the system. Nintendo consoles always have high attach rates for first party games, so it's doubly true for them. ARMS might be one of the lower-selling 1st party games, but it's not going to be a flop.
