so what's the /v/erdict? Been looking for a meaty single player FPS.
>>
I've been playing for 8 hours or so.
I'm into psychotronics.

It's very good in my opinion.
>>
>>376068815
It feels like original bioshock, but with more system shock elements. It's essentially what I wanted from bioshock in the first place.
>>
It's pretty good, like a mixture of Bioshock, Deus Ex and Alien Isolation, with Dishonored level design thrown in.

The game is very open ended too, lots of exploration and things to read that build the lore of the world / station up as you progress. Enemy variety is somewhat low, but it's still fun and there's a lot of ways to tackle fighting enemies.

Overall a solid 8.5/10 game so far to me, at about 10 hours in.
>>
>>376069059
This, I thought Bioshock was an incredibly mediocre game, but Prey is everything I expected Bioshock to be in terms of gameplay.
>>
>>376069351
>>376069059
When you compare it to System Shock, what sense do you mean? Inventory Management? Environmental puzzles? Exploration? If that's in with a nice sci fi environment I'll pick it up tomorrow.
>>
>>376069450
All of the above, except inventory management is pretty easy if you upgrade inventory space
>>
>>376069450
Mainly the puzzles. It feels more satisfying exploring around in Prey then I did in Rapture. Yes Rapture looked pretty but it was all pretty unrewarding. Prey feels a bit more freeform, and I enjoy the space aesthetic more then the underwater one. They also really want you to use the weapons/abilities to do things creatively moreso then Bioshocks thing of "You can zap the water!" or "Bee traps!".

>>
>>376069450
I played both SS2 and Bioshock and I'd say Prey has more the kind of pace System Shock had.
It's not as action as Bioshock and most enemies force you to think and not only use your weapons.

Also amno is scarce when playing on Hard so there is more tension to combat than in Bioshock.
>>
>>376069558
>>376069594
>>376069241
Sounds right up my alley. Thanks lads.
>>
>>376069241
Pretty much, enemy variety is my biggest gripe, and somehow, i feel like BioShock, System Shock and even Dead Space were a little more atmospheric.
but overall its a very solid game, best one this year so far at least for me.
>>
>>376069645
It would only be meme-tier if multi-track drifting was an option.
>>
>>376069708
not sure if you're misremembering but SS and especially SS2 have far more run and gun stuff than Bioshock.
>>
>>376069241
I didn't want to buy another game but you guys are making it too tempting.
>>
>>376069645
it's only funny to those who know and it is a very old thought experiment, won't age the game at all. Don't see the problem, it's not like it's a picture of doge or something.
>>
>>376069790
In the later parts of the game for sure, but early on you didn't see a whole lot of combat, and if you did you could just wrench your way out of any situation.
>>
Another Deux Ex/System Shock type game, pretty good so far

>get the weapon upgrade kit fabrication in the machine shop
>can now make unlimited upgrade kits
How is this balanced

Spotted the fat guy who got salty for getting pushed onto the tracks.
>>
>>376069835

>>
>>376069870
dude within an hour of SS2 starting you have to keep moving and shooting or you're fucking dead. Bioshock never once puts you under that kinda stress. In Bioshock the larger enemy encounters are telegraphed cause they always happen in a big open room with water on the floor. In regular environments you're up against maybe 3 enemies tops.
>>
Holy fuck, the replies in this thread. As if Doom 2016 didnt already prove that Bethshills are furiously stuck in here.

>Its like these generally well received and good games but totally better, guys :^) please buy it!
>>
>>376069908
>randomly exploring the first level before the lobby

I don't think balance is Arkane's strong suit.
It doesn't even cost that much to make.
>>

I don't know what bizarro mod you played but SS2 is incredibly tame. Any combat you see prior to meeting shodan is against wrench wielding thugs, turrets, and fucking robo nerds. All of which can be safely wrenched (or laser sworded you fucking pussy) on even the highest difficulty.

Don't even get me started on fucking psi powers.
>>
How big's the game's download? I've been convinced by you fucking faggot shills that its another D44M scenario and the last hope for my wallet is the download being something like 20gb so I can't impulse buy due to it taking too long till I can play it.

Just played the demo. It feels A LOT like Bioshock, right down to the big, art deco-ish posters advertising the game's magic, power-granting MacGuffins (Plasmids/Neuromods).

Unlike Bioshock though, this game feels kinda soulless. The near-future space station setting isn't interesting, it feels very dry, by-the-books. The enemies are just these bland, amorphous black blobs that are more obnoxious than fun to fight (dude every enemy is a mimic lmao). Not a single character to give any semblance of a shit about. There's nothing to really hook you beyond 'Hey, remember System Shock/Bioshock?'.

A solid 7/10 in my opinion.
+Nice consistent style, varied gameplay options and amazing level design with crafting for those autists that like that shit.
-But on other hand you get a predictable generic plot with no likeable characters, generic uninspired enemies, inconsistent texture and lighting quality and some of the worst sound mixing in viideo game history.

Fucking nothing pisses me off more than having to listen to loud obnoxious music in a quiet spooky environment that completely ruins the mood only then to by fucking blasted by a audiolog cinematic thats 10x louder than anything in the game.

Nief Automata has good combat, but that is about it. The characters themselves fall flat past design, and the narrative sucks. I don't see the Bioshock comparisons unless you never played SS to make the System Shock comparisons. Bioshock has 1 way to do everything, this is more inline with SS/Deus Ex in environmental exploration and usually 2-3 ways through areas. There are mandatory plasmids in Bioshock for the one way through places aka the lightning and fire ones you get.

>>
>>376068815
Loving the hell out of it. Pretty much what >>376069059 said, Bioshock with more System Shock to it. The shooting isn't completely potato so it has the strengths of Bio in that respect, but it has skillpoints, inventory management, and fairly open level design like System. Plus if you want less-potato shooting you can drop skills on gunshootery much like SS2, or you can use them on exploration abilities like hacking or super strength, or go for psi powers, etc.

Currently I'm going no-hacking no-super strength and going to go full psyker and playing on nightmare. I've been able to get around the lack of hacking and strength in a fair few bits but thankfully they aren't pulling a DXHR where every fucking room and treasure has alternate ways of getting to it. You can get around SOME things, but there are whole areas I haven't been able to access because I couldn't hack and couldn't repair to vacuum seal the area off. Makes me twitch leaving stuff behind but I made my bed and I'm going to lay in it.

Since I'm praising the game and am going to be called a shill anyway, I will even go so far as to say this will most likely end up being my GotY unless Mountain Blade 2 ends up being this year. Can't think of anything else that has the potential to dethrone this. Is No Truce With the Furies going to be 2017? That might do it too.

>Get to first """moral choice""""
>Its a guy in a cell
>Who you can either feed to the aliums (???) or free
>Game throws a few lines of text explaining he's a convict as if that makes a fucking difference in an alien apocalypse scenario

Please tell me these get better
>>
>>376090997
Yeah but he gives you like 15 blocks of exotic material if you experiment on him. That's the expensive part of five whole neuromods.
>>
>>376090997
Its not like Dishonored where it impacts the game at all, so not really.

You either free him and get access to the armory, or kill him for a bunch of exotic material used for making neuromods. I got access to the armory from mimicing something and going through the teller window, then I found him without knowing he was there

They will always be this reward or that reward, the problem doesn't matter. Deus Ex HR/MD had this "issue" aswell

You don't have any friends or life

i liked how the calvin alien made to earth, love to see humans getting fucked and that woman getting launched into deep space was brutal but in prey as a game that ending felt...bland and uninspired, you are a alien we caught, we added ''human'' neuromods on you, you are the ''bridge'' between our species and our last hope of survival in a typhoon infested earth and thats it, no sequel cuz of the sales, no conclusion at all, i h8 those kind of endings, i would prefer to choose the ''kill them all'' ending so, aliens won, no more humans on earth at all, fuck you all
>>
>>376091629
you know, prey is like those games that the time will forgot, no one will remember its existance, the same happened to the original game, its a bland and forgettable game, its like that third person shooter released last gen stranglehold, showed cool promise, ended up being forgotten by history, its like no one remembers it except me, its game that will walk in the middle of the street and no one will notice, not bad but nothing actually good either, its a waste of time and money, theres nothing to see here, move on
>>
gunplay from what i've seen looks and feels like fuckign shit. how do you fuck that up after doom
>>
>>376091957
different devs?
>>
>>376091957
Looks like the 'Doom was good' meme is still going
>>
>>376091957
man imagine a space bounty hunting game with slick gunplay instead of this potato tier garbage shooting shit
>>
>>376092107
those are just retarded normalfags who have never played a doom game before, please don't write off people actually being retarded as a "meme"
>>
>>376091957
combat is shit tho, game has like 6 weapons, 4 powers and you can camouflage into objects and use turrets and thats pretty much it, the gameplay is a fucking chore, game lacks fun
>>
>>376091817
now that you removed the "its runing on the same engine as dishonored 2" its better
>>
>>376092184
I choose to believe that most of /v/'s current opinions are a just people pretending to be retarded and not a case of of this shit hole being even more of a shit hole
>>
i seem to be picking up duplicate plans

does it lower material cost?
>>
>>376092270
i did a wikipedia research and i was wrong about the engine, it looks very similar to dishonored in term of aesthetics and shared the similar problem with the pop ins that i thought it was disho2's engine but well disho2 runs on a modificed id tech 5 (rage) engine called void and prey runs on....bankrupted cry engine
>>
Does anyone know what the FUCK is attacking you in volunteer quarters after you turn the power on? I'm getting assraped by strange green energy and chairs are getting flung all over the fucking room instagibbing me. It's like I'm fighting a fucking poltergeist from STALKER and the lens detects nothing.
>>
Would much rather have Prey 2
>>
>>376092437
He is invisible. Listen for his voice and use the gloo gun to catch him.
>>
>>376071059
Is that the installed size or just the download?
>>
>>376092512

I got him, turns out they're called poltergeists here too. That shit gave me flashbacks.
>>
>>376092745
