The stealth mechanics in MGS games have never been great. Certainly not as great as the SC games. The saving grace of the franchise has always been their cool level design, interesting characters, etc. MGS2 lacks all of that. Shitty controls, shitty boss fights, and worst of all, it could've been avoided if Kojima wasn't such a piece of shit. He made a bad game ON PURPOSE. Why? "To subvert les expectations XD!!!" Kojima's mom should've subverted her fucking pregnancy. MGS2 is shit. Why am I playing as a fucking faggots? Why can enemies see me before I see them? Why does nothing fun happen in the story? Why is the level design so shitty? Why does the game never go far enough into its "creepy" undertones? Why does the game never try to make you feel uncomfortable? It tries things, but never fully develops each point enough to make it interesting. Fuck MGS2, and to some extent, fuck MGS3. Honestly, the only great game in the series is Peace Walker.

It shows the amount of nuance and sophistication it had, anyone can see it and see that it's not terrible or laughable since it was pretty innovative for its time and allowed for much variety and depth in the ways it could be played, even beyond another groundbreaking game like MGS was.
And the thing elevating the gameplay aspect as a whole is just how well designed the AI is. Its AI is still better than any other AI in a MG game
