This is depressing. Was severely depressed for years and just starting to get on "track" now. Why do what everyone else is doing, I've never understood this. The older I get the more I realise I nor most people have any idea what they're doing, they're just trundling through trying to get somewhere or sitting still/stagnant.

If someone's passion is video games, be it making or playing them I don't understand what the issue is, it's their time and they have no obligation to anyone to live a monotonous cookie cutter life with husband/wife/kids if they don't want that. So many people who follow that life end up unhappy with their situation, unhappy with their lives. (With some exceptions, my Grandparents for example)

Life without entertainment or passion is a shit one, it's the foundation on which cultures were built. Without art or passion we're just biological machines like any other animal.

Even the most accomplished people, their lives will mean nothing in time. Their names won't be remembered on any grand scale. We only have a really short existence and that's it, it's sad. There's no real difference between someone who worked their ass off their entire life in a job they hated/tolerated and someone who enjoyed themselves and did something they were passionate about in the long run.

To me there's only your personal experience and fulfilment in this life. There's no obligations to anyone or anything, you don't *HAVE* to do anything.

Vidya is for 12-16 old kids. That's it. You can see it in any new game that comes out. They clearly target this age bracket which is also the one who most consumes games without needing a lot of quality from the devs..

Call of Duty WWII, Battlefield 1, Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Fallout 4, Horizon: Zero Dawn, etc., are amazing games for their intended teen and pre-teen markets. They will mark and shape some early teenagers like Contra and Super Mario World marked yours.

The new games are not bad at all, they just are made for a different generation from yours, for a completely different age gap then you are now.

This is why spending too much time playing vidya after that age bracket is a bad idea. You are with a bunch of pre-teens and teens, not with other people who are at your age.

I didn't think much of it growing up, but my dad both limited my access to videogames while advocating playing sports, fitness, etc. He even went as far as to limit my access to certain friends who he suspected played video games non-stop.

When I got out on my own, I played a lot of videogames and music, fucked around at shitty jobs, bummed around in college, and fucked a ton of roasties.

Well, it turns out my dad was right about literally everything. Videogames kill any agency one might have as far as I've seen. People that play videogames are usually lazy fucks that lack drive, focus, and athleticism. And my dad was also right about people that play music are usually DUDE WEED, drug addicts, drunk, or frequently work part time or have a checkered employment history.

By my mid 20s, I started playing sports again, lifting weights again, picking up more instruments, and eventually landing a decent job when I reduced my videogame playing. I even bought a house after a few years on my own. Last week I sold the last of my game consoles, leaving only my PC, which I don't really game on. The only thing I can't do is ditch this shithole. Honestly OP, when you hit college you should be at the point when you don't play them as much, assuming you played them while growing up. I played videogames all throughout my childhood and high school years, but I came to a point where I severely slowed down on how long I played video games per day. As I went through college, I hardly played any video games during the weekdays, and now I am at a point for weeks where I go without playing video games. For me, I think I just sort of burned out. I played most genres, and most games I found to be very similar. Once you play a few final fantasy RPGs, you've basically played them all. But the silver lining to this is that when a new game comes out that looks very good, I can truly enjoy it. I will play it for hours every day for about a week, and will get throughly satisfied from it. My lack of playing games constantly and only playing the best new games that come out has made the hobby extremely enjoyable

I was born in 84 and will still continue to play video games probably until my last. That's not to say that there is nothing else going on in my life or that I even have the time to put into them that I used to. FFS I played Xenogears 100% like 3 times when I was in HS.
