I tried playing FFT once and in the battle after this the enemies kept spamming potions, I eventually got bored and played something else instead.

I really should go back to it but that incident soured me on the whole game, is every battle going to be enemies healing with a million potions and outhealing the damage my party can deal?

so, recently "installed" WotL, with a psp emulator.
Patched the iso to fix the slowdowns and tried the first battle before the save.
Everything runs smoothly minus the audio which is a bit wonky at times but ok.

What am i in for? Is it a long game? Can i screw myself up with bad decisions?
Also, i usually avoid guides and go blindly into any game but sometimes they're needed. Should i use one for this?

It's a long game but not too long, some side quests in chapter 4 can prolong it a good deal.

Your decisions should be to have the main character be able to heal himself with at least one skill, so that a battle in chapter 3 is a bit easier. Otherwise I have a few recommendations such as having one well trained thief to steal the unique equipment in the game like blood sword.

Actually if we're talking about D&D-type games, that's even above average. That's average for an adventurer, but for the average schmoe NPC the values are 8s IIRC.

i.e. a Str 11 Dex 10 Con 11 Int 10 Wis 11 Cha 10 stat block is a typical 'average' peasant, but if they're a human they've got +2 to apply to one of their stats on top of that.

Nah it's not, I like LUCT but it has too many issues and the plot is not as engaging as FFT's, and Knights of Lodis is too hampered by the GBA's limitations (the AI is so fucking slow it gets old really quickly).
