It's fun. I'd say yes but like any franchise there are shortcomings that are addressed in subsequent iterations. Dungeons are especially repetitive, Tartarus is not exceptionally fun to explore.

Story is solid, and I like the theological bent to it. It's a good counterpoint to P4 in terms of theme. People will just say it's waifu garbage but there is some meat to it, the whole embracing death and suffering and absolving guilt motif is pretty good stuff, kind of reminds me of Dostoevsky.

They didn't though. Some things are dumbed doen, others are widely expanded upon. P4 has (shit) puzzles in dungeons, so dungeons being dumbed down is a lie. It also has skill cards, skill customisation for party members, gameplay reasons for levelling up social links, and interactions between characters in battle.

If you want to see dumbing down, look at how much customisation, skills and mechanics P3 removed from EP.

Yeah, get FES for the better game, despite what P3P fags will claim. Also just watch The Answer on youtube with the gameplay cut out (after you beat P3) to save yourself a fuckton of time and headache. It's a good place to start if you're just going to play the modern Persona trilogy because you see how the gameplay changes and how quality of life improvements come in. It also gives you a good first experience into the series and won't turn you into an incessant faggot like P4 fanboys.

By all means play P4 though as well, I recommend the regular version since Golden adds like 80% garbage to its 20% actual good stuff. As hard as I am on the game, it's still good, but P3 is a tough act to follow.

Yes, but it was censored as "you spent the night talking" in the American version (it's just plain "you spent the night with Ken" in the Nip version). Not that the change matters because it's clear they fucked. Later on there's a scene in Tartarus where Akihiko and Ken are arguing over FeMC and Ken goes "but last night MC said I was good at it." There's also another scene where FeMC and Ken run into some kids from Ken's school and they basically call FeMC a pedo.

P4 has better gameplay by far. The cast is also pretty diverse and strong, with Yusuke being pretty annoying most of the time, Teddy being pretty annoying most of the time, and Chie being sometimes annoying. Compare this to P3, which has a female cast entirely made of people with huge daddy issues. Aigis is the only one that stands out at all, and she's really not that interesting. The male cast is a bit better, but Ken is really very auxiliary and doesn't do much.

I can understand liking the themes in P3 more since P4 is entirely about MUH FRIENDSHIP, and the music is obviously subjective, but the casts are really not outstanding in either game and the gameplay in P4 is decidedly better.

It's just dungeon crawling. Floor after floor of P3's lackluster dungeons peppered with bosses that are difficult enough that some people feel the need to grind, though I don't remember doing so.
Persona 3+'s gameplay loop works so well because when you get tired of the VN segments, the totally different dungeon crawling is waiting for you as a change of pace, and vice versa. You don't get that in The Answer.
