I had a reverse teacher of that where every assignment, I would rarely get less than 101%.

She gave extra credit on ALL assignments because she graded the main assignment insanely harshly, such as forgetting a comment somewhere would deduct like 5 points. I always did the EC though, and wound up making very few mistakes, so I basically S ranked that class.

I think that's a policy everywhere. Our school did that with tardies, in 10th grade I was tardy 14 times and they called me into the office with the vice principal and the truant officer and they said I was going to fail my 1st period class and have to retake it next year.

Then the VP said, "oh wait, band is a year-round course, you' need to miss 20 classes to fail it, not 14"
