Had the reverse happen to my PS3.
HDMI port went out when I was changing my setup with the PS3 still on since my GF wanted to watch TV on the big TV. I moved it to the monitor below and stopped working.

2nd modded PS3 to fuck up on me. My luck with PS3s isnt so good it seems.

You can find ones that can do 1080 but they are more pricey and in my experience don't work. I think the one I linked is only up to 720 but works flawlessly. Suits my poor fag friend fine I bought it for him about 3 months ago when his TV broke. The Converter is powered by microusb so you can power it with your consoles usb port.
