I agree that this a problem with many recent entries into the genre. People give musou a free pass for being shit "because it's supposed to be shit". But it's not a problem that's inherent to the mechanics of the genre and to say it is, is quite frankly fallacious.
I could find a dozen shit DmC and Souls Clones and say these genres are fundamentally bad because of vague all encompassing reasons but it wouldn't be correct.

Splatoon 2, BoTW, a port of Smash 4 with a less retarded name, Mario Odyssey. I think I'd like to try a lot of the games doomed into obscurity on the Wii U like Captain Toad, since I skipped on that machine.

Monster Hunter and 3 more good exclusive JRPGs (Zelda is the fifth title). Xenoblade 2 probably will be the next interesting title for me but the Switch will already be less expansive by then so there is no reason to buy one now.
