It's unclear what they're going for with personas sometimes. Sometimes personas are like facades that you use to get through daily life, sometimes they represent underlying rebellious natures, sometimes they represent who you really are deep down, it's confusing. If it is a shield that helps you get through life, then it shouldn't really be that crazy and should instead look like something that would help you be accepted and confident. Yet we get shit like Disco Ninja Frog from Yosuke in P4.

I played blind too and finished with only 3 people unmaxed. And one of those were because I didn't know Tora became unavailable during all of December. I didn't even know about the Fortune perk until like the last two months. Ryuji, Ann, Mishima, Tae, Kawakami, Yusuke, Futaba, Chihaya, Sojiro, get smoked kid, and Iwai were all pretty easy to max. A lot of them play off of each other as well to make it easier for other S.Links, like doing Sojiro should give you enough Kindness to finish Futaba.

The problem with party members getting their character development in social links is the same as it was in 4, any development they have can never be mentioned in the story because they can't contradict the player having done their links or not, and so in the main story the characters all end up being incredibly stale.

I guess my misunderstanding is how facing your shadow is an undeniable short cut to gaining your persona. But given the definition of a persona DENYING your shadow should give you are persona rather than the other way around.

Neither has the cast in 5 but they still summon it naturally. The point being the threat of death allows you to summon a persona you don't NEED to face your shadow. Also in 4 arena (yea its canon) they no longer need the invoker. On top of that by the end of 3 they all have evolved personas so without having to face their own shadows. So even ignoring 5 it's debatable but when you include 5 it's basically confirmed a shadow encounter is not required.

The phone chat killed the regular in-game events where characters meet up and talk. And when they do, it's always about their current/next target.

You are right in that Persona doesn't really follows Jung faithfully at all. It would be more faithful if accepting and understanding your Shadow (desires and urges that are repressed out into unconscious territory due to them being unwanted, clearly harmful, unacceptable by society, or something else) would be explained as an Individuation, that the person finally started reaching Selfness and all that and their Ultimate Personas are like either their actual Self, not a Persona, or an actual ultimate persona they consciously built with full understanding of it's role and themselves, but that would be goofy and too much like gamey educational program, wouldn't it? Also, Shadows worked a bit more faitful in P2 duology. Characters were already persona-users by the time their shadows popped up, and shadows weren't some outside entiry, it literally just was those repressed urges surfacing and overtaking. Like Ulala snapping over Maya getting everything with no effort while Ulala working her ass off all for nothing but disappointment, getting drunk, depressed and calling Joker to kill Maya, because she always envyed her and was jealous, but repressed it.

In 5 the characters do seem to do something akin to confronting and accepting their shadow. They have to make a deal to use their personas which reads a lot like accepting their anger and repressed feelings of rebellion. I mean fuck Arsene straight up makes the protag swear a vow with him.

Most of Kaneko's designs are still on point, thus why Atlus still use them. Loki and Thor were a bit weak because of the colour limitations, but I would argue that Magical Mathematical Floating Head Odin actually looked pretty good.

Soejima's a mixed bag. Didn't like the Personas in P3, thought they were pretty OK in P4, was really excited about most of the initial designs in P5, but the Advanced versions are garbage.

I wish Kaneko would update a bit his own art, but I suppose he's a bit above that now. It makes me a bit sad that he probably won't be working on demon designs anymore and that he'll probably die of lung cancer in a few years anyway
