Remember when the west made good music games?
>>
World Tour was underrated, GH3 was massively overrated, RB2 was the only good RB game.
>>
>>375856862
Is rock band 4 any good? I'm not going to waste more money on plastic instruments, just curious
>>
Rock Band 2 definitely has the best setlist out of any of the guitar-based games. I'd never go as far as to say it's the only good one, but I spent a lot of time with score duels which were taken out of future games.
>>
>>375857534
>World Tour was underrated, GH3 was massively overrated
This

>>375857764
If you've already got a lot of DLC from last gen, it's worth picking up so you can have it all on the main console you're using
Otherwise, I'd say kinda not really
>>
>>375857534
>GH3 was massively overrated,
Maybe, but it was really good.
>World Tour was underrated
This is the worst game in the franchise, the only good thing about it was the music, nothing else.
>>
>>375858102
>This is the worst game in the franchise, the only good thing about it was the music, nothing else.
Isn't that the thing that matters?
As long as you don't care about vocals it had a better engine than GH3 too
>>
>>375858102

>the only good thing about it was the music, nothing else.

Pretty important in a MUSIC game. 3's setlist is lackluster as fuck compared to World Tour, plus World Tour added in Drums and custom song creation.

The true worst game was Band Hero or Van Halen depending on how much you dislike Diamond Dave-era VH.
>>
>>375858287
GH Metallica/Smash Hits had the best engine. The World Tour engine was kind of shit IIRC.

Did anyone own the WT drums and not have them break?

>RB2 was the only good RB game
I guess you're forgetting you could export nearly every song (minus some good ones) into Rock Band 3. Also, Rock Band 2 doesn't have any Yes DLC, so it's shit automatically. Other reasons RB3 is awesome:

>better Options menu
>all songs unlocked right away
>Pro drums
>vocal harmonies
>keyboard
>metric fucktonne of DLC (a lot of it is shit, granted)
>>
>>375858432
Van Halen was such a rush job it was given away for free.
>>

But unfortunately it wasn't fun to look at or play.
Also Band Hero is top tier anon, it's in the top 5 best.

The visuals were terrible and the songs just weren't fun to play outside of Tokio Hotel and Michael Jackson. I feel like they went to far up Rock Band's ass with the music, not saying they are bad, but I would say most weren't fun to play, I finished the game and never played it again, it's the only guitar hero/rock band/dj hero type game that I only played through 1 time.

That's what I do, I have not played any other GH game since WOR came out, I just play that one with all the imports and a large amount of DLC songs. I wish they would make a Hero Collection with all the games or a new game with all the songs from the previous disc games but they would probably have to re-license all that shit again which would cost a small fortune.

There's a lot of bands that are highly requested but won't get added to the games, either by artist request or the licensing isn't worth the effort or money.

Gf and I proceed to spend over $100 in dlc songs.

Touché harmonix
>>
>>375858762
As a person who enjoys both, you are a douche, and I wish people who play RS would stop saying this sort of thing.

It doesn't make any sense for a person to go out and spend $200 (at the very least) for RS and the equipment when they just enjoy playing GH/RB now and then. If you are pretty good at GH/RB, you're still going to fucking suck at guitar for a long time. It takes a lot longer to learn actual guitar than it takes to get good at GH/RB. You won't see a large return on your investment for a while.

All that said, if you think you have the time and willpower to commit to learning, I think RS is both a good tool to aid in that, and a fun game to play.

Metallica are notorious for this.

None of there songs are exportable, including DLC tracks.

>>
>>375860130
Uh...Metallica got a deal with Actionvision.

All GH metallica songs are exportable, aside like 3 missing ones.
>>
Did anyone else play this? I bought it for ten bucks and I like it more than Rocksmith
>>
>>375857764
>>375860152
RB4 was made a shoestring budget since HMX was super-adamant on the whole "going indie" thing after how much Viacom screwed them. As result the game lacks in many areas, because they didn't have the money to actually build a game that lived up to it's predecessors.

The setlist, while it does have some good songs here and there, is noticeably smaller than RB2 and RB3. And with how much Day One Pre-Order DLC was pushed, it feels like the setlist was purposefully neutered to nickel and dime customers.
>>
>>375860292
>Metallica got a deal with Actionvision
Because Activision had a budget high enough after GH3's success that they could make the Van Halen, Metallica & GH5 games at the same time and successfully kill the genre.
>>

What are some good ddr-style games for PC? I'd prefer if they weren't a huge pain in the ass to install and get content and set up with tens of plugins and shit

It wasn't really actionvision but Vivendi.

Fuck those jews, but yeah having 5 GH games in a year is a receipt to kill the genre. WoR was really good but them it was too damn late.
>>
>>375860665
stepmania is still the best, in terms of customization
>>
>>375860570
Yeah really, some of that pre-order dlc (Particularly Cowboys from Hell and September) would of rounded out the setlist nicely. At least Judas Priest and Rush are on the setlist. Some Extreme would of been nice.
>>
>>375857764
It's still buggy and lacking in features almost two years after it came out.
Plus the DLC is has dwindled down to one or two songs a week now.

Personally I wouldn't recommend it, get RB3 if you want to get back into your DLC if you had any.

If you want literally "DDR-style," just get Stepmania. stepmaniaonline has all the song packs you could ever want and it's super easy to set up. I'd advise getting a "vivid" noteskin if you want it to have more of the DDR aesthetic.

If you just mean "hit buttons to scrolling notes," there's also Lunatic Rave 2 for IIDX simulation.

Those games actually aren't that bad. Decent timing windows and responsive controls from my expeirence. It's a shame they never made it to the console versions though. Although, finding the instruments split up should be easy since it was in a game at all, could be easy to make quick FoFix charts for them.

That was back in 2009. After 2011 they started becoming harder to find since they started breaking down. You can find GH2 controllers on Amazon for about $40 at the cheapest, but odds are good it'll be a shitheap in just barely usable condition.
