About to play System Shock 2 for the first time, any tips? Which class is the most fun?
pick Navy and get hacking for your first playthrough
>>375834069
Hacking is awesome. Don't panic when you don't have enough ammo at first, it's a horror game don't waste ammo on random mutants, beat them to death with the wrench.
Dont stress to much about classes, pick whichever one you want
O.S.A = mages
Navy = better mechanical and hacking skills
Marine = Better combat skills
just play the damn game, there's nothing to really screw up. Just maintain a playstyle focus and be thorough in your searching, and conserve ammo by using the wrench when you can
>>375834069
Navy. Gives you boosts to Standard weapons and hacking - the best skills ingame.
>>375835878
>There's nothing to screw up
>Sink all your points into repair, research and modify.
>>375836686
>>Sink all your points into repair, research and modify.
hey man, that's just playing the game in fun, hard mode.
Which class is the best at killing mechs?
>>375838903
Laser weapons
>>375838903
marines can start with extra affinity for energy weapons, and a laser pistol at the start.
>>375835878
people say that if you dont have the proper stats you can get stuck near the end of the game, but the only required stat checks I know of are researching the toxin on deck 3 and hacking the vending machine to get the bomb, both of which I believe your gifted enough modules to upgrade the required stat when they give you the objective, and not only that but you can use the LabAssistant implant and an ice breaker to get past both stat checks.
>>375834069
> any tips?
Exotic sux
Energy sux
Stick with the Wrench. Wrench with the Wrench. Just in case though, you're Wrench.
>>375839818
>Energy sux
You sux
>>375839818
>Exotic sux
excuse me while I ruin everything with this
>>375834069
I had no idea there are classes, what the fuck man.
I need to play it now
>>375840417
Not really classes, but you spec up points of which things you want to improve on.
Kinda like Deus Ex
>>375840225
i used this a lot too
>>375840646
it's the classic 'stupid looking weapon that does the most damage in the game' trope.
>>375834069
Don't be a faggot and uninstall whatever graphics mod you were planning on using before starting.
>>375840756
Don't they go out of the way to explain why this weapon does the most damage to the many?
>>375840831
When I first pirated this game, it gave me graphic mods that actually triggered headaches to me, it was the first game to ever do that to me. Vanilla was way easier to play.
>>375840831
what is wrong with the graphics mods?
>>375840756
>spending 80% of the game gimped so you can do slightly more damage in the last section of the game
Never understood this meme desu
>>375840997
>Don't they go out of the way to explain why this weapon does the most damage to the many?
something something nanomachines, son
>>375834069
>any tips
Nah.
>>375841049
Kill the original atmosphere. Like actually fucking slaughter it.
If you've only played SS2 with a graphic overall mod, you've never actually played SS2.
Be sure to max out your agility so you can run away from monsters really fast. If they're still catching up to you, use a speed hypo too.
>>375841169
That was so pretentious
>>375841169
>if you didnt play the ugly as shit, inferior version your not le real gaymer xd
fucking kill urself kiddo
>>375841534
>Max Agility
>Hit the melee enemies and back up before they're able to hit me
Love that shit.
>>375841534
>fighting those upgrade monkeys late game
>they fuck me up
>time to speed hypo my way out of this
>die by hitting my face against a pipe at high speed
More games needs this
>>375841914
>>375841994
>I enjoy playing a game considered a classic but with enemy designs completely changed and sterilized by some random fuckwad who thought he could do better
It's like saying "Yeah I've seen Star Wars, I watched the Family Guy DVDs".
navy or marine
standard weapons, repair, maintenance and hacking
don't worry about trying to do absolutely everything in a single playthrough
It's not as great as ss2 shitters make it out to be but it is pretty unique, ss1 is a much more consistent and better game in general
>>375842735
You seem like youre fun at parties
>>375842735
>It's like saying "Yeah I've seen Star Wars, I watched the Family Guy DVDs".
no it's not
>accidentally finding a window you can jump through into space
Deck 5 a shit
>>375834069
Have you played SS1?
>>375843405
Ummmm yes sweetie
>>375835878
Uh, yes you can screw up. You just got lucky your first time. I had to start over the first time because I didn't level up properly. You may want to read a guide on how to level before you start playing, unless you want your first playthrough to be a learning experience.
>>375844413
that wasn't luck, kid, that was skill
what's it even like to suck at videogames haha like just push the buttons haha
>>375844413
>>375844413
the only thing you can fuck up is the research thing but you literally get spoonfed on what to do, they also give you free points to upgrade and an implant for it
only a literal retard could fuck it up
>>375844249
Nah, waiting for a remake.
Still, I don't discard the idea of trying it if I really like SS2
>>375844936
>This
Shodan literally tells you to put points into research, then gives you the modules to do so. If you don't follow her instructions you lose the game. Simple
>>375845007
Don't be put off by screenshots, you don't need a remake. SS1 is fucking phenominal. Most ambitious game of the DOS era.
>>375845007
>Nah, waiting for a remake.
you're a fucking idiot
>>375844780
I don't suck at video games, I've beaten Nethack, which is the hardest RPG ever made. I've also beaten Dark Souls with a level 1 character. It's been 12 years since I've played System Shock 2 so I don't remember it that well. I seem to recall I invested a lot of points into being able to use high level weapons that turned out to be useless. I beat SS2 three times, one with each class, so I didn't make the same mistake twice.
>>375845290
Woah there gramps, don't stress yourself out too much.
>>375844091
There is no such window in the game anon. There's one where you can lean into space, slightly.
>>375834069
The final boss is made of meat
The real final boss is made of computer stuff
plan accordingly.
>>375845007
The game is perfectly fine with mouselook
>>375845007
>playing the sequel first
>>375846281
SS2 is perfect when played as the first game. The sense of mystery behind everything is that much more rewarding when explained.
>>375845852
it's perfectly fine without mouselook
Don't put points in Repair. Only Maintain.
>>375846491
no it isnt, it fucking blows.
even doom had mouselook, literally no excuse.
PSI is for casuals
make a save right before the radioactive water tunnels, and make sure you write down EVERY code they give you
>>375846491
It's still good but turning is awkward as hell
literally nothing wrong with modding out weapon degradation
>>375846719
why would you post such an inflammatory comment in my thread like that
>>375846554
>>375846637
it's not a run and gun shootan game like doom
I you honestly think it's impossible to play with the original controls just keep in mind that the entire game can be played with just a 2 button mouse
>>375846881
Yeah but when a mutant teleports behind me to eat my asshole I'd like to see him quickly
>>375847101
that is the point of the sensearound gimmick implant
you just think everything has to be an action game
So could someone explain to me where S.H.O.D.A.N. whipped up all the gorillas and tigers?
The groves were supposed to contain harmless woodland creatures and I don't think gorillas and tigers fit that description.
>>375847293
I think it's more fun to not know what's behind me than to have a whole new window to compensate for being a slow turning piece of shit
>>375847920
you miss the whole point
>>375848175
just stop
system shock isn't for you
