I've installed Linux on my laptops over the past decade several times. As a non-autistic consumer, it's not bad and it certainly improved over the years. It runs Chrome, Skype, CSGO and Dota, minus LOL it runs everything normies care about and it used to be arguably leaner.

What really irks me from a user's standpoint is the the way it handles files. I can't find shit I've installed, if I find it and move it, I break absolutely everything, the installer "appstore" are all on a scale between cumbersome and garbage and I had to google on how to make a desktop shortcut. Shit's just riddiculous and the fact that every major distro aping OSX isn't making things any better.

I mean fuck, atleast give me a choice where to install my videogames without breaking some compatibility in 80% cases.

Tradeoff is that you will have to spend more time adjusting your installation since it comes pretty barebones by default and you might get surprised about how many things you will need to setup manually. As somebody who was running Win7 for 6 years and now using 10 since few months, I would say - if you have new hardware and need clean install, gets 10, if you have working 7, there is no reason to upgrade at all.

They dont really have too much advantages over each other, as it turns out.

So yeah, 7 is very viable, but will lose support in few years and devs will follow. You will have to switch at some point anyway. You just dont have to do it right now.

So much this. I installed ubuntu on a separate partition to try if I can use wine to play gaems on linux. I gave up after about half an hour of constant problems and googling the solutions.
I'm still on windows 7 and will stay as long as possible. By the time it's out of support there will be Win10 tools that make it bearable.

Linux is good for anything BUT vidya, or if you happen to be one of the people running unsupported HW, then it's obviously a no-brainer in Win's favor.
mpv shits all over MPC-HC so watching stuff is better on Linux.
Browsing the web is also better on Linux, you get more up to date browsers and with proper implementation of shit (there has been a joke on /g/ about posting an empty white .gif that would crash your browser but only if you were running Win + Chrome).
Office work can be done perfectly fine online, even companies do it nowadays.
Programming is better on Linux, no question about it, Windows was never intended for developers.
If shit breaks on Windows, you can't do anything. If shit breaks on Linux, you can do something about it but I advice agianst that. Win users are doing just fine sitting in a burning house, no point in trying to put out thefire with your shirt.
But games? If you play only emulated games and games for older Windowses, then Linux is usually the better way to go (depends on how recent the emulator is, of course) but for normal gaming, it's an absolute no-brainer in Windows' favor.

Mpv and MPC-HC both provide decent filters, colors, sound, smoothing, all that sort of stuff.
VLC does none of it, artifacts a great deal, can get pretty choppy (not performacne wise but smoothing helps greatly with action scenes), even ruined colors on all Nvidia GPUs back in the day.
It is simply not intended for it, just pushing a pixelated, low bit-rate stream from Twitch or w/e into your PC to allow you to get around the Flash player.
