While video games werent the center of my childhood and I had plenty of time to be active in my sports, I feel any time I lost on vidya coyld have been applied to something beneficial for my future, be it health or academic.

I'm well aware I might be projecting but given the amount of unhappiness with vidya you see on /v/ I have to wonder if I'm not the only one stuck in a 'hobby' I don't really enjoy because the things I really want feel unobtainable.

I'm on a deskjob and live ok-ish but it's not that fullfilling. It was easier for them to tuck me in whatever else that wasn't making noise or giving them problems.

I think the next war will happen when humans find an alternative habitat in space. Wars are fought for economic reasons and there's not much profit to be made from a barren, life-less rock, especially if your well-being depends on it being habitable.

The next "proper" war won't even have a death toll >50k. Most of the US military power comes from our Airforce and Navy. We don't need to put boots on the ground when we can rain holy hellfire from halfway to the ISS with our Stealth Bombers.

Not to mention that the West is stuck in a permanent employer's market because of immigration not being limited severely. Employers aren't ever forced to offer better wages, conditions, hours, etc, because they can always find some immigrant who is willing to do the work for less, in shittier conditions, and live in squalor.

And if we fight for a minimum wage increase, all that'll happen is that even more people will be out of a job, and most fast food restaurants, retailers, and transportation sector companies will replace their employees with robots. You can't fight it, because the technology to replace the common man is already there, it's just too expensive at the moment. In my state, when the minimum wage jumped from $8.07 to $10, 30% of my coworkers got laid off, 8 new automated check-out stands were installed, and the remaining employees had their hours cut. I'm one of 4 employees that gets more than 30 hours a week, other than the managers/bosses. And when there is no one left to manage but the robots, they'll be fired as well.
