For actual roguelikes you should try Cataclysm DDA. There's also Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup which is fantasy. Dwarf Fortress' adventure mode I think counts as roguelike too and I think is more complex than the other two I mentioned.

For roguelites you should definitely play FTL. Risk of Rain is pretty cool too.

I love Stone Soup. It is a great place to start if you wanna start playing rougelikes. Pretty easy to understand and you can play it with a mouse.

Your biggest enemy in these games is always your own carelessness and hubris.

Risk Of Rain is a lot of fun. It's what got me into the genre, has plenty of content to unlock and is very rewarding once you learn how to play it properly. Strafe is coming out in a couple of days, but right now that looks like it could go either way.
No matter what you do, don't play Nuclear Throne. I put almost 300 hours into it before I realized it was an RNG simulator, and it pains me that I'll never get that time back.

It's really really misleading to put it anywhere near games like Spelunky and Nuclear Throne though. Risk of Rain is Maplestory meets Diablo meets Musou. The levels are all nearly static.

They're all static. RoR could really benefit from a custom map editor/generator but I'm not even sure if the game is being worked on anymore considering the last update was years ago.
