>Dude this unappealing, $1 indie game that I only played for 30 minutes tops is very refreshing and way better than actual quality video games
What did he mean by this?
He means that indie games provide an attempt at new mechanics and themes, while mainstream games often play it extremely safe.

>yet another jump scare fest
>yet another VN with shitty art
Let's be honest, there's far less originality in the indie scene than there is in the mainstream. People lower their standards for indies because "muh underdogs".

>I only do a quick skim of the Steam store when I want to see what indies do
There's more of x generic premise because there's more cheap shots at x in general, not because they're less creative.
If there are 3 AAA titles doing x and 300 indies doing x, the AAA titles would still be playing it safe within that genre, and there would be at least 10 indies trying to do something good with the genre because they have that freedom. On top of that, at least 40-50 of those titles would only be x at first glance.

I'd rather pay 1 for a game and it turns out to mediocre than spend 30 dollars for a game that turns out to be polished shit.
>>375770073
>he thinks indie games cover less than 10 genres
let's be honest, you're only aware of some mainstream indie games
>>375770673
I'm not sure what you are trying to say but it seems to be you are defending indies from the position that sheer volume means there is more likely to exist an indie game doing something interesting than not. That's really weak. Nobody likes they fact that Steam has thousands of pieces of shit clogging up the store.
>there would be at least 10 indies trying to do something good with the genre because they have that freedom
And why do people seem to think indies aren't hindered by the same financial burdens as the mainstream are? This is not a charity, these people are trying to make money too. And apparently the most effective way for them to do that is a cheap knock off of an already existing cheap idea. Besides, most of the loved "indies" out there actually have mainstream money backing them. That makes them technically not indie.
