ITT games that fail at understanding gun mechanics
>aims weapon incorrectly
>holds 20 rounds modeled with a 30 round mag
>iron sights are for nerds
>lists AKS-74U as an SMG
>oversized slide grips
>slide release is now a safety lever
>rainbow six siege
>AP rounds dont pierce armor
>shove a clip into the bottom of a 1903
bump
I'm interested in this.
>>375761158
>clip
>fire half your mag away
>reload
>character charges the weapon anyways, wasting a round
Even Arma 3 does this shit
>>375761412
Call of Duty games don't
>>375761357
>>375760035
I would think a better way of putting it is that developers don't understand gun mechanics.I'd argue many don't even understand good game mechanics anymore.
>>375761412
Project reality doesn't, r6 siege doesn't. I won't play a shooter that does this
>>375761526
I'm aware, but Arma 3 calls itself a simulator then gets the most basic things wrong.
Also that reminds me
>empty reload SVT40 or G43 in CoD2
>doesnt charge rifle
>fires anyways
Every other weapon charges correctly.
>>375761540
Considering most game devs have never shot or even held a gun and simply think they're scary black death machines, you're probably right.
>>375761607
CSGO does this but CS has never had good gun mechanics so I figure it's just a CS meme at this point.
>fire half your mag in your M4
>reload
>pulls back the forward assist, somehow charging the rifle
>take out your rifle 30 times, charging it every time
>should have empty mag
>doesnt
I chalk this up to lazy design and stupidity mainly.
>>375761948
The way CS does it is a balancing measure.
>claims to be glock 18
>no firemode selector switch
>sub compact frame
>full size slide
>holds 20 rounds (glock 17 can hold 19 at most with a +2 adapter, glock 18 holds 33)
how could you fuck up a glock?

>>375762083

Fuck you CoD 2 was amazing. Yes the irons are inaccurate but that was to make them simpler to use, otherwise they would be obstructive shit and it would have unfairly nerfed the gun in what is SUPPOSED to be an arcadey, fun shooter

Turns out it was an M1985 and it can be supressed. Oh well.
>animation charges M4 using the forward assist
>attach silencer
>bullets suddenly become subsonic and range is significantly decreased
only two exceptions would be:
>using subsonic ammo like .45cal
>having an integrated barrel like pic related
this is an old meme of a myth and has since been put to rest by modern technology...
similar to how 9mm vs .45cal used to have a significant different in ballistics, yet nowadays it's negligible

I just assume they figured out +P and +P+ ammo exists

It's still dumb. Easy solution to this would just make the sight aperture bigger like what the Back 2 Fronts mod did.
Also why did CoD1UO have sprinting but CoD2 didn't?
>>375762989
They knew it was wrong. They did it that way so you could more easily see their animations and also partially to avoid having to license the guns.
>>375762919
right, but there are games in particular that list the weapon as a G18c, yet they don't feature a compensated slide...

ffs bethesda>tfw RE4 does the same shit with several weapons and no one says anything because the games actually good

Why is Bethesda constantly doing shit like this and that one NV shotgun? Are they spaghetti coders? Like they couldn't even figure out how to make a train move so they made it a hat for a really fast NPC.
>>375763513
>100 round shotgun drum
>throw in 2 shells

But RE4 didn't try to be realistic at all and whod want to sit there as Leon loaded 100 shells. That Bethesda clip is simply showing they don't know how to program single round reloading.
>>375763235
you don't have to license real guns to use them in a game. you can however be sued if you portray a real product in a false light which could harm a company's reputation. so by not depicting actual products you can avoid that risk.

Little grimlins carry the shells to the chamber from the drum.
I mean, I get why they did it.
The M1 thompson has perhaps the stupidest apertures ever designed in history. Most soldiers barely aimed with it because it was so situational.

a conveyor belt from the magazine to the chamber?
>>375760035

It's not a misunderstanding on the developer's part, they just don't want to use the aperture because in close range engagements with fast moving targets aperture sights are far too much of a hindrance.
tl;dr it's for the purposes of balance

I didn't see BF1 get advertised as that. Then again I really didn't give a shit about the game, so maybe it was. In any case, I think you should hold a dev to account if they actually say they're realistic, but if they don't I'm ok with them handwaving a lot.

i dunno i gave it my best shot.
>>375765290
the best inclusion in bf1 is the whistle as the squad leader. it actually seems to have a tangible psychological effect on the people around me, like it reminds them that there are actual objectives to be captured.
>>375764739
Lots of games do that, I guess some devs think it's more cinematic or something?
>>375765406
I can deal with guns not being realistic and such if the game has no intentions of portraying itself that way. Obviously stuff like Postal 2 isn't trying to be realistic, but BF1 certainly was being advertised as a realistic WW1 game. A WW1 historian even got interviewed about it and basically said it was nothing like WW1 at all.
CoD 1-5 were definitely attempted to be decently plausible and everything after that is gunwank 12-year-olds-idea-of-badass shit but still tried to masquerade as realistic with licensed gun names and everything.

DICE is really inconsistent on whether they want this to be an interpretation or whether it's historically accurate. You can find interviews where two different developers say two vastly different things. Even though anyone with two brain cells knows it's nowhere near historically accurate.
>>375768304
that quote isnt really a contradiction. all the shit in the game existed, technically, just not actually combined. some of the guns had production models in the single digits, and all that, or sights came from aircraft guns that, EXISTED, just didnt ever get put onto infantry weapons and the likes.
saying its rooted in reality isnt any sort of indication that its realistic. its just saying "yeah, this shit could of been done, it was done on this other thing at the same time"
