AVGN was only ever funny for 14-year olds. When I go back the only videos I still find entertaining are the ones where he's somewhat genuine like the Castlevania series.

It was pretty much just a forced out episode due to high demand and the sponsorship.

Sucks that when a single weak episode comes out people act like it's the end of the series and everything is going to be exactly like that. The MMPR one before it was amazing, and before that he had a pretty shitty christmas episode, so I don't see any reason why he's done and over with because of a single one.

The problem was that he did a video ages ago with Mike where he pointed out the exact same criticisms.

This review felt so lifeless. It was almost meta, in that it was the most lifeless Sonic game ever, and it was so bad that it impacted James.

I never really got into AVGN. I think the appeal is that James and Mike feel like grown-up 80s kids. They compare everything to 80s movies or 80s games. They're not highly informed about what they play other than how to play it. Sometimes they do a bit of research but they seem like 80s kids doing a history project using public library books rather than making use of the extensive documentation that many video games and consoles have online today. Their humor is also cursing and coming up with scenarios that only kids would find funny. I wouldn't call them reviewers either. I did like the Power Rangers episode though.

Maybe I'm just not part of their target audience since I was born the decade after.
