Something about the color distribution seems really off in the remake. In the original, all the yellow and orange was generally kept up on the ceiling, away from the player's play field, so there was absolutely no visual ambiguity to what is terrain and what isn't; the blue and gray (which contrasts well with Crash) are what you walk on, the yellow is kept above you to compliment the main colors. In the remake, the yellow/orange is just sort of thrown everywhere, on the side walls, on the floor, with no real consideration to composition or gameplay. It's a minor change, but it really affects the level a lot, and looks pretty amateurish.

That said, I do like the harsh lighting/shadows on obj_motherfucker. Much better than the total lack of lighting in the original. Would've been nice to have the flamethrower cast a stronger, red/orange light on him and the surrounding environment, but what can you do.

I played the originals, Crash is my favorite series, have gotten the PSN versions for PS3, and I play though them at least once a year.

This remaster looks fine,
the model looks great, i dont care what you faggots "think", this is the classic Crash design from 2 and 3 just with more polygons.

It's not even about the colours (which are a problem in the remaster for sure), it's about the focus of the lighting. In the original, the spotlight bathing Crash contrasts beautifully with the darkly lit chamber, and pulls your eye directly him. In the remastered versions there's less a wider palette, but lesser tonal range. The originals had to make to make do with a saturated palette to increase said contrast, but now that you can pretty much do anything you can get directionless messes like the remastered visuals

Try not playing the PAL version if you're getting delayed responses. Almost every PAL game of that gen was a lower framerate than its NTSC counterpart. NTSC Mario 64 is smooth as fuck, there's a reason its speedrun so much. Mario responsiveness and sheer amount of ways to get around make for a fun game to push to its limits.

The pedestal changed with artistic direction. Its a big stone with darker stone around it instead of just having weird fading color/texture. Bottom left looks like crap because the stone pedestal is all monotone and they added lighting that wasn't even there in the original.

it's really concerning that the animations look so stiff, Crash had a certain 'bouncy' manner of moving around in the originals, and if he's lost that, it makes him look like he's moving at a different speed, this is before considering all the other changes in his animations, ironically, while trying to make him look more vibrant, he comes across as lifeless in gameplay.

this is missing a lot of the charm of the original games in motion.

Not him but things could theoretically change more stuff again. They already made changes due to feedback for previous builds of the game. And we all know the final game with the original trilogy, isn't out yet so who knows what will the final version be like.

I feel all the new features, gameplay improvements, etc they're adding is an interesting trade off for how they're handling some of the aesthetic changes. I can get if somebody places more value on certain other things over others. I guess we'll just have to see at the end.

I can't think of a demographic who would genuinely enjoy this trilogy. I grew up with the original games and feel like these remakes take away the visual charm, but the gameplay isn't 'timeless' at all. It's aged badly, so younger gamers wont be able to enjoy it.

That said, I'll probably play through it all, just for the hell of it. I can't see these games being very memorable though.
