Now that Ryzen 5 is out is it still worth getting a locked or unlocked i5 in 2017 ?
>>375754680
for what?
Unlocked i5 at 4.5+ ghz is still better for most stuff than a 6-core
>>375754816
da emperah
>always intel
>always i5
>always K series
that easy faggot
>>375754816
for gaming of course
>>375754680
With ryzen you're looking at 5-10 less fps in most games, but the CPU overhead is crazy. Nearly half the CPU usage in most benchmarks I've seen. That said, Intel overclocks much better and still has better single core performance.

R5 and i5 trade blows in games but the R5 is ALOT better with rendering/streaming
>>375754680
Intel is left with only the 7700k .
Nothing else is worth considering.

Serious question here. I know from experience that AMD's FX series sucked absolute dick insofar as high-end emulators. Even Dolphin and PCSX2 had problems, and we can forget about CemU. Is Ryzen any better on that front?
>>375756539
Looks to be just fine
>>375756539
Ryzen is almost on par with Intel's gaming CPUs, like someone in the thread said you get 5-10 less FPS in games than an equivalent i5 or i7, but while the Intel CPUs run at 90-100% usage in games Ryzen only runs at about 60%, meaning no stuttering and easy multitasking. Also it's more future proof as more games become optimized for 6 cores.
>>375754680
you either get an i7 or go Ryzen, dont overthink it
>>375757494
but Ryzen doesn't have integrated graphics like intel
>>375755142
>for gaming
kek
>>375756539
Its all about ipc, even moreso with emulators. FX processors had literal shit ipc, Ryzen's ipc is about the same as Haswell/Broadwell. Skylake and Kabylake are better, but Ryzen still holds its own.

If you are maxing out a modern i5 or i7 (paired with any decent GPU) while only gaming, you don't know what you are doing or it has literal shit optimization.
>>375754680
arent they all unlocked? its the motherboard that matters.
>>375758097
So? Who gives a shit? If your gonna be gaming, you're gonna have a GPU anyway.
>>375760842
Yeah, you need either a B350 or an X370 mb (which is most of them) to overclock any Ryzen processor, even Ryzen 3 when those come out.

i meant the i5, but k
