So far the Switch success is based on Nintendo IPs such as Zelda and Mario Kart. The Nintendo fanbase is notorious for being obsessed with first parties and don't care for the thrird parties. The developpers from both Japan and the West know this.

Switch will go as far as the Nintendo fanbase goes, but to break beyond that they will need third party support which is not coming anytime soon

Not really, it depends on how well they're ported and if the games are good. Bayonetta 2 for example sold almost as much as 1 did on PS360 did on the Wii U alone. It may have been exclusive, but it was certainly not a Nintendo IP.

Yes exactly manufacturing in China is more ideal because the labor is cheap and they don't have to pay trade tariffs to enter their product into the largest economy in the world, though even if they don't make the bulk of their sales there, they are already connected to the largest continental land mass with the most and highest population centers.

This is versus catering to the US market, not the Japanese market which is far closer to China than the US in terms of manufacture and need to import their own products, which by contrast has high wages and much lower population density across a continental land mass. And there the most viable market would mostly be US and Canada; the Central and South American markets are not carrying videogame industry on their back, nevermind any regard to their extreme poverty and high crime.
