He has similarities to some bosses but I wouldn't say he's recycled. The thing is, there's only so much you can really do with humanoid bosses so it should go without saying that some bosses will have similar fighting patterns.

The first phase of Gael is a definite throwback to a very well known boss though. No disputing this.

Ringed city is only good for its bosses and 1/2 of them are shit (Spear and Midir) and 1 is only OK (lmao2demons).
Gael suffers from the poor arena design that undercuts the actual fight and the shit combat mechanics of DaS3 trivialize his fight because of roll spam being the best way to avoid all of his attacks.

In terms of its level design and enemy placement Ringed City pretty shit.
The 3 Ringed knight enemy types are interesting, as are the Harald Legion and the Cleric turtles but the ambush hollows are just too forced, especially since they debut after another zone in this game to have another variant of the same 2 hollow slaves.

Yes there are many similarities.

Gael is Orphan on steroids and Blackflame Friede is Lady Maria on steroids.

DaSIII basically took the best parts of all souls games, added a more fast and visceral combat of BB that still fits perfectly the DaS gameplay and just focused on individual level design and kino bossfights.

You're forgetting one thing.
Yes, you can roll a lot, but on the other hand, rolls have less iframes and each roll isn't OP as shit like before, enemies are smarter, deal way more damage, are way more aggressive and eat your stamina when you're blocking way faster. They can also delay their attacks making you fail some rolls.

I like it, it makes the game more brutal, and allows every playstyle to be balanced. And since there are many other tweaks to overpowered things in DaS, the end result is much better.

Just like you might not like and complain about poise. It's not better or worse, it's just different, and some people like it more that way. For me, hyperarmor>memeshit havel builds.

I kinda agree with this although you have to admit that poise is non existent. I like the changes they made but it seems like they completely took poise out.

I have a level 135 with 67 vitality so I can do a smoughs cosplay. I also have the wolf ring +3 which I know has diminishing returns but this is about as high of a poise value as I can get. Despite all of this, I still get staggered by straight swords unless I use perserverance. Shit is retarded.

First, straight sword aren't unviable, there is no unviable build, never was.

Second, every armor piece has a poise value, and every weapon has a poise break value. DaSIII is the only soulsborne game where I did pvp for more than 5 minutes, and I noticed that the heavier the armor, the more hits it takes to stagger you, and the bigger the weapon, the less hits it takes to stagger someone.

Dagger/short swords and relatively fast and light weapons will need a lot hits to stagger a heavy armor, but a gigantic UGS or hammer will need less, and this just makes sense. It's the same for pve, enemies and bosses have somewhat realistic values for hyperarmor, and light weapons will only stagger small unarmored humanoid enemies, while gigantic weapons will stagger everything except a few bosses.

But yeah, I really disliked 3 overall. I don't have anything against fast-paced combat, in fact I'd say BB is the best in the series, but DaS3 just felt ridiculous, they tried to make every fight CUH-RAZY and they're mostly all clusterfucks of roll spammin away trying to find your bearings. It's sad because some of the bosses rank among the best of the entire series, but most are just not fun at all.

I cannot understand this logic. Dark Souls is a RPG, you make choices, and it makes perfect sense to increase agility if you want to be more agile. That's literally the same as saying "uh what? I have to invest in strenght and dex in order to carry weapons and deal more damage? Bullshit, my damage should increase regardless of my level distribution".

And people act like you have to dump every point you have in ADP when having 30 is more than enough, 35 if you're really bad.

Two hits but spaced out, one at 7am, one around noon. I fought Gael in the early afternoon, around 2 or 3pm. I went in blind, I really enjoyed the music and his transformations were awesome. The skull effects coming off of him was a little distracting. My biggest issuse was his first phase because the distances were really hard to judge. For his 2nd and 3rd phases I stayed close to avoid his machine gun and turtled his hits with a black knight shield+4

Part of the problem is that the animations don't change to reflect the increased iframes, the other part of the problem is that how your hitbox updates seems to be wonky and will stay behind for a short period of time when coming out of your roll.
Hitboxes are still mostly good in DaS2 outside of that issue and several niche cases since gestures and your attack animations do cause accurate updates of your hitbox.

I've never understood everyone whining about tying your rolls to a stat since DaS3 does the same thing with the Bloodring, it's just tying your rolls to a stat and making it blindingly obvious to even an inattentive player that it fucks up every once in a while that's the problem.

Am I the only one who doesn't lock on in these games? It's really obnoxious to see the camera move chaotically when the enemy moves. I always not lock on, and manually adjust the camera as needed.

I never have a problem with enemies. The only issue are humanoids who can backstab.

If they just gave us the ability to backup without locking on, I'd use that.

Lock-ons are a hold-over from the days before 2nd analog sticks. They should go away.
