I love female protags, but you can't have the subversion just be that the protag is female. The best way to go about it I think is to have a female character of a certain archetype - say the supportive healing type - be thrust by fate into the "hero" role.

Take Maya Amano. What makes her so cool is that she's the protagonist of the second game in a duology - and in the first game she's a genki party member.

She rocks because you get to know her as a party member, but then suddenly the fate of the world rests on her shoulder.

What? The pacing picked up by the second half of the game, but the beginning is absolutely terrible. That Maker's World was awful in many ways. I liked Darksiders 2, but Darksiders 1 was much better. Yes, combat was much better in 2, despite the still obvious flaws (easy to spam magic, get overpowered way too quickly). Darksiders 1 is remembered more fondly, though, because the dungeons were so good, I think. DS 2 brought more quantity in that regard, but not quality.

Anyway, I really like this series, I felt lucky we got a Darksiders 2 in the first place and I'm really glad we get a Darksiders 3 as well.

Fury was , in the Darksiders lore, always supposed to be a woman. From in-game cutscenes, to concept art, to novelisations. So I'm not really suprised.

What worries me the most is that will it be as bloated as 2 was? Lets be real, Nordic is essentially a skeleton crew pumping out re-releases of old ass THQ games so this can't have a BIG budget. So, considering the scope should be reduced it's perfectly possible to get something along the lines of the first game. At the cost of reused assets, we should get some quality dungeon design and a refinement of the pretty great DS2 combat.
