I actually got the season pass this weekend, cause I felt like giving it a go again. Fucking hell how I regretted doing that, but at least I got it for about half the price.

I liked it.

I actually really enjoyed it my first playthrough. I endured 1 minute freezes and 15fps on my 10 year old computer to play it.

Granted the story was awful and RPG elements watered down the combat and exploring were much better then F3 & FNV.

Most locations- really, almost all of them- were forgettable throw aways. Combat was improved in the most superficial senses. Ghouls are interesting to fight now, grenades were improved so they weren't a dedicated weapon. The new VATS system is stupid though, you can't make your own munitions so you you inevitably either use guns you don't like, or stock massive reserves of ammo you don't use, gun customization is cool up to the point that they thought a water cooled assault rifle was a great idea.

I knew it would be bad before Todd shut his mouth about it at E3. Disappointment? Sure, a little, at just how bad it truly was. Not really, no. It explains why areas are so small but it doesn't explain why all those small areas are so empty and bland, that's just Obsidian.

When you look at the way Bethesda build maps they painstakingly fill practically every goddamn room with hand placed clutter to make it look like a place somebody might actually live in. Obsidian did not do this. It reminds me of one of the way people like to rain shit on Bethesda by comparing some cherry picked AI packages from Oblivion to those in Skyrim. Ever looked at the AI packages in New Vegas? They are embarrassing. Most the NPCs don't do anything but stand or sit in the same spot all day, every day. I always hear "What do they eat?" but you never hear "Where do they sleep?" about NV. Most of the population don't even sleep, much less have a bed to sleep in.

Where don't they sleep? Squatters in Freeside all have mattresses, the various camps do too. Everyone in Novac and Primm has a bed. Even for NPCs that don't have packages for sleeping, there's still beds available. Even the various raiders have makeshift beds at their camps.

I tried mods with seriously nerfed carry weight, too and it improved it all the more. If video games are going to improve their graphics like they have been it calls for more realistic gameplay. Seriously would have improved the GTA series by now. Hoping for something like that in the next RDR, too.

It was literally fine though. Met all my expectations and exceeded some. Sure, the plot was shit and none of the factions made sense but it's Bethesda, what did you expect. I'm just glad the gameplay was so much better than the previous iteration and they didn't get carried away with a giant empty world. I liked playing with brown bricks too, I felt like it did a good job of creating player investment in the world.

Solid 7/10, would play over 3 and NV any day.
