4 belongs where it is, if not lower. I haven't played 12, but 4 is awful by every metric except music. The DS remake and ports of it are the only versions that are even remotely interesting to play.

The best aspect about XII is the Hunt sidequests. If the best part of a game is a sidequest, that game is just not going to make it to a great rating. It's a solid 7 though.

it can be ok if it's done right, 7, 8 and 10 are around average in my rankings. i'd rather it not take over the series, but for now the majority is actually fantasy. it will probably eventually be more anime garbage than fantasy, but at the rate they're making games we won't get FFXX until 2070 so i'll probably be dead by then
