I could be wrong about this, but I think Ninja Gaiden Sigma had a thing where if you do all of the in-game content, you unlock a very powerful weapon, but it could only be used during the late parts of the game when you're about to beat it and there's no new game plus to complement it. I don't know if there was something I skipped about it or something, but I could never take those weapons back through the beginning of the game again.
