I was just comparing and I realized they changed a lot of stats. Is it just characters or karts, too? Acceleration seems to be improved across the board, and I find there are way more kart combos that are viable now.

Also more stuff that was removed and improved:
-Third level of drift boosts added
-The stat error was fixed. In Mario Kart 8, a stat that was 3.25, or 3.50, or 3.75, would be rounded down to just 3. So those three would have the exact same stat instead of being different. Now, the stats are kept as they are, so 3.25, 3.50, and 3.75 are in fact different stats.
-Gold glider was changed from unlocking at 10,000 coins, to unlocking at 5000 coins.
-New Ghost item fixes item balance. No spot is safe.
-Double items make how you handle items now entirely different.

Not really. All it does is add one more way to fuck someone over, since it basically just re-locates an item in the herd. If you're a good racer and spend a lot of time in front, all you're going to do is occasionally lose your defensive items. It's frustrating as hell.

Yeah. Still not sure how I feel about this. Sometimes it's nice to have two items to protect your ass when you're riding in first, but seeing as how one is almost always a coin, it doesn't really matter. All it does is ensure you've got twice as much shit coming at you from behind as you used to. I've encountered a much higher frequency of bullshit item barrages in this game compared to the first. While I'm on the subject, it also sucks that CPUs get their items instantaneously when they drive through a box, but you still have to wait for the roulette to stop spinning, even if you're mashing the button as fast as you can.

I think some of the changes were misguided, but overall it's still a great game, and not nearly as bullshit as MK Wii.

Besides, unlocking shit isn't even fucking hard. The CPU drivers aren't challenging opponents at all, you just spend race after race after race trying to build a huge lead so you're still in first after you get pummeled by a redshell-blueshell-lightning combo.

Forcing people to go through that tedious crap by themselves just to unlock shit is a waste of time.
