It single handedly destroyed my love of video games. I never, ever, ever bought another game full price and still haven't to this day. I haven't pre ordered a game since that day. I sold my GameCube afterwards and switched to Xbox. It ruined my life and my childhood, it was so fucking bad.

Tony Hawk Pro Skater HD.

What a buggy fucking mess - every other time I bail my skater ends up clipping halfway into the floor. The multiplayer is awful, everyone gets thrown into a generic skatepark and has to skate around, but there's no interaction or competition. All you can do is warp into little challenge events, which take you away from the rest of the players.

Oblivion's level scaling was almost if not exactly 1:1 all game long, Skyrim doesn't come close to being that bad. If anything scaled badly in the latter, it was Destruction unless you made spells cost nothing and stunlocked things to death, but that's boring. Also, Skyrim doesn't run like total shit when there's six NPCs on-screen.

Well yeah, that's the thing; it fixes some problems of the previous but forgets some of its better qualities. Oblivion had some fun quests and a lot of NPCs somehow have a bit of charm to them. Skyrim's game world is just much more boring to hang out in and only a TC can change that.

I never had a lesson to learn with any of them. They were solid games in their own right, just not the games I wanted.

My younger cousin and I spent months hyping up Brawl and reading Sakurai's updates every night. We were playing a lot of Melee doing Marth v Marth mirror matches on FD for hours on end while waiting for Brawl to come out. When we finally got the game, we played through story mode, unlocked all the characters, and played for a week. One day a week later, while sitting down and playing Brawl, we both started to speak at the same time about how the game doesn't have the weight and speed of Melee, and how we should just go play that instead. My cousin was 10 at the time, and even he could tell how much better Melee was to play.

Since then I never really get too hyped about games. I compulsively check updates for some games in series I love like Pokemon but I always keep my expectations in check, people are often disappointed with Pokemon of late for example but XY pretty much hit my expectations for the start of a generation and SM didn't look any good to me during pre-release. ORAS disappointed me in that it didn't do what I wanted it to do, but I still personally found things to like about what was there.

The only real exception since Brawl has been Tales of Zestiria which I really liked the sound of a lot of things pre-release but it ended up a shitshow, and otherwise the only games I get "burned" by anymore are ones I can tell are gonna fucking suck but I really want to be good because I like the premise whether it be for the gameplay or the setting and I play them anyways.

I built a gaming PC to play Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, and when I built it NVIDIA gave me a free key for MGSV.

I went into Type-0 HD thinking it'd be one of the best Final Fantasy games ever made, and I expected MGSV on the whole to be as good as its first hour was.

Still remember my friend and I at a bachelor party drinking and just waiting to go home at play Skyrim when it was released. We both loved Morrowind, and enjoyed Oblivion for what it was. Skyrim was going to be the best of both worlds.

We were drunk, with hot strippers dancing on us, and all we could think about was going home to play Skyrim.

I stopped by his place to sober up before going home, and by the introduction sequence we were already a bit worried. The game was okay, though, for the first hour or so. And then the flaws became apparent and I literally stopped playing video games for 5 years.

I never really over hype anything but with Paper Mario: Sticker Star. I saw those beta screenshots when it was first announced with the turn-based combat, Chain Chomp partner, card area & etc. and it got me ecstatic since I loved the other games, my big reason for getting a 3DS was it no less. Battlefront. I was super, super fucking hyped when I saw the trailer, then It all died as soon as I found out EA was making it and they weren't including space battles.

I just now remember how hyped I was for this.

I think I had convinced myself if would be as revelatory an experience as the first game.

I was very disappointed. Not enough to not buy the third game though, based on rave reviews, which then disappointed me even more. I'd just had enough.

I had hoped I would have learned a valuable lesson about design fatigue, and how impatient I get with games that are too close to their predecessors. But I didn't learn it with this, Viewtiful Joe 2, Tropical Freeze, or Skyward Sword, so I'm not sure when I will learn.

Riddled with bugs and glitches the day it released, I still beat it in less than five hours completely blind. Then I beat it again in less than an hour, just to see if I could. Patches have helped things a lot since then but the damage was already done and even with the improvements it just isn't a good game. It's pretty and atmospheric sometimes but takes itself too seriously yet doesn't ever have any stakes.
The only thing I got out of this game was a really good soundtrack, but even the official soundtrack is missing mixes of nearly every song and some of the exclusive tracks are unbearable remixes.

I'm not too sure. Probably Pokemon X and Y? That was around the time I was busy all the time and life was super shitty, and I was bored with trying to raise Pokemon, so I wouldn't say the game disappointed me as much as I was just disappointed in life and was losing touch of myself.

In recent memory, Fire Emblem Fates. I watched this trailer so many times. I will never get excited for a video game again.

MGSV too, but I was more detached from that one.

MGSV left a hole in my heart that will never heal.

The game isn't terrible, but it's the opposite of what I expected and not at all what I wanted. I guess I only have myself to blame. But the trailers, the ruse cruise, posting on /v/ and /vg/ every day, I was expecting MGSV to be a rollarcoaster coaster ride that pushed the medium to its limits and left me in awe. Instead we got great gameplay stuck behind 90% boring missions in a bland open world with a meandering story that had the actual exciting bits cut off. Missing link my ass, Metal Gear timeline made perfect sense with the ending of 3, Peace Walker and V tried to explain it and just made everything convoluted as fuck.

I'd rather the game had been delayed indefinetly and we just got a new trailer every year.

Fallout 4. Yes.

Definitely Other M. I don't even hate the game or think it's terrible, but I had not too long gotten into Metroid at the time, and was hyped to see a more classic style Metroid in 3D. The unskippable cutscenes were annoying and the story was bad, but I still had a decent time with it. It's just Metroid was better than that, and there were a lot of stupid design choices (like the authorisation, or moving in 3D with a fucking d-pad) which really hurt the game. Which is a shame, I'd love to see another crack at a 3D classic style Metroid rather than a 4th Prime game, even though Prime 1 is my favourite entry.

The best part of Other M was Samus sarcastically going "Any objections Adam?" and activating both the Space Jump and Screw Attack. We needed more fun moments like that where the voice actress actually gets to act.

I think it's got some good, some bad, some really bad, and overall it's not great, but I don't think it's horrendous. The story is the most infamous part of it anyway. What bummed me out was that it could have been awesome but just missed the mark in so many ways.

The worst part was that the series basically died again after it.
