They're like the Diktat that have mixed tech but I feel SD are more settled in the middle while Persean League will have everything from (D) frigates to high tech capitals. I think it helps to have a bunch of united military markets.

In another save I've bought a bundle of carrier capitals from them because pop 6 and 7 military markets are amazing for those. I swear in the time it would take for me to find 1 Astral from the Tri-Tachs I could buy 4 from the Perseans.

You can get just about anything from pirates, but yeah most low to mid tech ships are pirate. There are pirate bounties where you can find a fleet of high-tech ships if you get a desertion one from Tri-Tachyon.

Mid-tech ships are alright, they have a good mix of ballistic and energy slots. My favorites are the Brawler, Drover and Sunder.

I put 2 of them on Astrals to soften up shields for the 4 bomber wings that follow. First run didn't kill? Recall teleport everything and send the next wave almost immediately. I also have a Longbow in a lot of my 2-3 fighter bay carriers since my old save's fleet is nothing but carriers. Makes short work of wAIfu battlestations.

They're still underwhelming and I'd like it if they were a little faster and had either Expanded Missile Racks or 3 fighters per wing.

I put 2 Flak, 2 HVD, 1 Mauler for ballistics on my Enforcers. It still generates more flux than it can dissipate but if I was worried about that I'd use only 2 HVD or HVD + Mauler and the rest be Point Defense like Flak or HMG.

Like the Eagle it has a lot of nice weapon mounts but it doesn't have the flux stats to support it.

Still nothing happens because it's a destroyer grade shield and torpedoes do 50% to shields.

They serve a different purpose but I strongly feel that the Mule is a more capable combat freighter. It puts a real destroyer body on the front-lines that has enough presence to scare off frigates. I feel like that's a much more important addition to your fleet than a slow PD platform with a single fighter bay.

Fighters are pretty good at dealing with them, since they move really fast and come in packs.

Frigates with speed boosts can chase them down, their sustained mobility isn't great. Lasher with Safety Overrides used to be great against them, but I haven't tried it this patch.

Higher tier ships can outrange them, and wolves cannot trade hits. Unless your guns and shield are front-mounted, wolves should be little threat against cruisers or capitals, and they suffer even just fighting destroyers.

The CR reduction with safety override is far too hefty for Lashers I find. Not only that but you're reducing the Lashers strength against the Wolf by giving it Safety Override: Wolfs have less peak time than Lashers because they're a techno ship.

I've had a few long fights that I was watching with a coffee as a Wolf slowly puttered to a stop from various malfunctions and my still peak-timing Lasher came in and nailed it.

It's why I always roll with hardened subsystems for extended CR.

Hardened subsystems works best on a frigate that you can effectively solo-dogfight as many enemies as possible, allowing you to drain the CR of all of them before bringing in your cleanup crew to handle the malfunctioning ships.

For me, this was always a centurion with hardened front shields and as many caps as possible, plus a couple of railguns for popping fighters and the occasional hound or mudskipper.

It meant dancing around for six minutes at a time every major fight, and that was just a shitty way to play.

If you don't pressure them hard they tend to keep being annoying for a long time, but if you can exhaust their jumps and keep the pressure up they almost always fold in short order.

Plus, Lashers aren't just for fighting wolves. Safety Overrides will give a lot more benefit against other targets.

Directed the the java installer (the x64bit, NOT the 86) to install into the Starsector folder.
I'm still getting the same messages as before, "This software has already been installed" and selecting yes pops up the second one saying "This action is onlyvalid for products that are currently installed"
Selecting no just closes the program.

Yes. Objects are always in orbit of something, like a star or a jump gate. Often in the dust/asteroid rings around the sun as well, and inside the corona. The long-range scan comes in handy.

Just make sure that you scan the right one, as there may be several probes in one system. Once I thought that I had already scanned the right one and was about to leave, until I found another one which turned out to be the actual mission target.

Shepherds make for fine alternatives, given that they can actually be used in combat, and they they also get surveying equipment for free.

The problem, however, is that Shepherds soak up your fleet cap quite quickly, and they're more expensive in terms of supply usage. The surveying equipment is nice, but your logistics ships (haulers and tankers) are ideally suited to carrying that stuff instead (Buffalos and Phaetons are destroyer class).

It really seems like the better way to play huh. I think the issue is that ships are to cheap to buy. If the best ships were 10 or maybe even 100 times more expensive than they are now I think the game would be better off.

Still Shepard have some combat abilities, cargo and fuel capability when rigs none of it.
Still you can get biggest tanker and two atlases into 3 free spots and then you will see difference.

Playing no-buy made me realize that the biggest cost associated with ships outside the earlygame is maintenance anyway. You can still run out of money pretty easily just by flying a 30 fuel fleet around.

The map is fucking HUGE now. Fuel is guzzled down rapidly it feels like because of the distance and sustained burn making it faster. There actually isn't much of anything once you're a bit away from the center where all the inhabited systems are but you may run across a random Scavenger fleet or something.

Well the other Wanzers will receive some sprite refreshing and probably some adjusted weapons, but nothing of the magnitude of this Strife or yesterday's sword wielding Frost. Just the regular akimbo Wanzer.

The Storm is getting reworked as a Cruiser since it never really fit between the capital ships. And some other ships will get various alteration, adding landing bays and such.

As for completely new ships, there are plans but probably not for the first 0.8x release

I certainly wouldn't mind a fight that is tough enough to give my fleet a run for its money, because bounty targets frequently have multiple capitals now and I still push them over.
