When you find out just how fucked up she is as a person and how it's not really her fault her lack of a job takes a back seat to making sure she isn't going to disassociate again and maim someone else. It's not so much a coming of age story as it is a story about trying to deal with change and uncertainty and actual mental disorders and how much they can fuck up your life if you don't deal with them.

It's good if you can relate to the main character or if you've ever known anyone that's gone through a similar situation. In my case, my best friend from high school went through a very similar situation as the main character so the game resonated with me.

At the end of the day it's a character driven game and the core characters are very well written. I actually liked how at times Mae would just say terrible things to friends, family, and strangers. It made me realize that I was watching a character and that I couldn't just play as I normally do and go for less hostile options.

Overall, I liked it a lot and I'm gonna do a second playthrough to hang out with Gregg more.

They cause a cave-in and kill the elders and the goat is sealed maybe but who knows because the story ends with nobody having learned anything or progressed because the town still sucks and they still are shitty kids and their lives have no meaning, the end.

They apparently had a whole different ending and conclusion in mind and were gonna go with the whole supernatural thing but decided to half-ass it at the end, which is REALLY weird. I would still recommend giving it a shot, because I did enjoy it, just be aware that the ending sucks.

I find it weird that the take-away is that they're Republicans just because they're insane, violent, deity-worshiping nutjobs.

The parents in this game are for the most part hard-working, normal people who just want a wage that lets them live a normal life. I'd reckon they represent the majority of the working class, regardless of political spectrum. The only line that paints this in any kind of lefty light is the whole "our tax dollars going to immigrants" thing at the end which is clunky because the ending sucks, but the rest of the game doesn't feel overly political, just a slice-of-life story of "our town sucks, the economy sucks, here's how different people with different opinions deal with it".

It's not so much of a game as it is a story, but it does have more interaction than just walking at least.

I feel like 2 major characters being gay was silly, especially since this is supposed to be a small-town with some bigotry, and the ending also doesn't really conclude with a message. I went through a lot of similar experience growing up, so it really spoke to me personally. Watching families get torn apart by economic crisis was really something hard to swallow. It was just a natural force that you couldn't really fight back against. It was really cool to see a game play around with those topics so explicitly.
