I say move on. Freedom Unite was my first MonHun, and thus there is always a bias in remembering it as a good game, as I'm sure the people recommending it have as well. However things like the ones you described are just objectively bad as much as it pains me to say it. Plesioth is notorious for the cancer that is its hipcheck hitbox.

Play the 3DS ones. The hitboxes aren't busted, and they offer a wider variety of playstyles to suite you if you become bored or stuck. Plus they have alot of the same monsters. Once you fight a Kut-Ku on the 3DS you'll see exactly what the difference is.

Generations has better weapon balance and monster variety than 4U, but lacks G-rank and has WAY too many gathering quests. On top of that styles and hunting arts are divisive.

XX on the other hand has G-rank and reintroduces even more well loved monsters into the game, undeniably giving it the best monster variety in the series, but once again, there's too many fucking gathering quests until you get to g-rank.

There's also one more thing XX adds to the series that people have been wanting for years, Transmog. This addition makes it so that you can "wear" any set you want without dealing with shit armor skills. XX also has the most difficult endgame monsters in the series so far, but they're arguably hard for the wrong reasons, take that as you will.

I wholeheartedly recommend XX, and think Generations should be skipped, to be honest.

They haven't even bothered to announce a western version. To make matters worse, it's a "G" version of a spin-off game. Capcom usually doesn't do that to the west. For example, we didn't get MH4. Freedom Unite is the only reason I was able to do a third shift security job for 8 months straight.

FU and P3rd are the reason I got a PSP and even on my Vita I find myself playing Unite while still playing Generations. Auto Reload was a skill that never came back from FU
