Just beat the Lolis last night. Funnest fight in the series. The game is absolutely phenomenal, and the few nitpicks I have are pretty minor, everything else was executed perfectly. This is pretty hard considering the story is one of the games biggest selling points, but I'll give it a whirl. The game is part life sim, in the same vein as Shenmue and of course the Persona games before. It is also a turn based RPG with a fairly large group of characters all of which you will get to know through personal missions and game progression. It deals with some pretty heavy themes. The game has full dungeons and procedurally made dungeons. If you enjoy turn based RPGs, and or life sim games this one would be up your alley.

The down time can be hard at some points in the game. Especially if you are the type to power level. You get a set amount of days to complete the dungeon. Each one only lets you go so far before the game stops you from going in and you have to wait for the last possible day. It wasn't uncommon for me to finish everything that I could do in a dungeon and have like half a month of in game days to fuck around eating Big Bang Burgers and hanging out in the hot tub. There is plenty to do while you wait for the 'perfect moment' to finish the dungeon. Some times when you don't have a cooperation ready it can be a tad frustrating waiting, but that all ends up part of the fun.

Kamoshida is a deep commentary on Japan's problems hierarchy and sexual assault, Madarame is a deep thought out story on plagiarism and manipulation, Kaneshiro tells a parable on greed gone wrong, Futaba shows the complexity of social anxiety and being lied to at a young age, Okumura makes a statement on employers taking advantage of the weak, and Sae and Shidou are deep deconstructions of Japan's legal system, not to mention the metacommentary Yaldabaoth serves as on the state of modern society. Truly the pinnacle of writing. That's not actually the problem. In the Japanese one, the text is ever so slightly slanted too, it's intentional.
However, Atlus USA stretched that particular part of the UI horizontally, to accommodate the fact that English text is ultimately longer than Japanese text, but they were so lazy as to literally just stretch it, and not put any effort into adjusting it. So it makes the slanted effect much more exaggerated.
There is no bottom to Atlus USA's incompetency.

Do you want to make a case for what's good about P5's story? Why the main antagonist isn't a bland evil capitalist who exists not as a commentary on politics but just because it's the most generic evil character they could make? And then added sexual harassment and murder to his CV so there could be no reason to side with or justify his actions? And then had a character like Goro, who is so half assed that they literally don't even finish his story and just "kill him off" because coming up with an actual conclusion is too hard, so they just make the entire cast completely forget about him and never bring him up again? Or how the rest of the antagonists all follow the same formula of oppressing a party member and being so blatantly evil that once again there's no reason to side with them, before having a dungeon and a boss fight to end that arc? Or how the story follows the same terrible formula of one character of focus per month before being discarded from relevance to focus on the next dull party member, just like in P4? It's a retread of P4's formula, just with better gameplay. It's a surface level story that feels so desperate to pander to the same crowd that enjoyed P4 that it doesn't feel remotely genuine and falters insanely during it's last couple of dozen hours - not the the storylines that preceded those hours were anything to write home about.
It's mediocre on the writing front, but it's a fun story nonetheless. Foreshadowing shouldn't be there as an attempt to compensate for a lack of development. When they only way to experience Goro's arc is through that dialogue, it becomes deserving of criticism. No, because the story is segemented. You're given a bit of brief exposition on why you should hate this incredibly evil person for each dungeon, then a new party member, and then you just run through a dungeon with a few reminders of how incredibly horrible and evil the antagonist is and how awesome and cool you and your new party member are for opposing them, and then you beat the boss and everyone's happy. This happens for almost every single dungeon, and it's an incredibly basic formula that they just insert a few different variables for each dungeon and call it a day. The last couple of dungeons are different, but they're just as terrible in that the antagonist is this blatantly evil figure. The only antagonist they try to present as someone who isn't just evil for the sake of being evil is Goro, but his arc is awfully, and I fucking mean awfully implemented anyway so it makes no difference.
The only half decent dungeon storywise in the game is the one with no antagonist, and that's Futaba's - but that goes to shit once you beat the game too.

The foreshadowing was when Mor and Futaba "about his voice" and she responded with "it's the same as always" and then the scene faded out because of drugs. No, I'm complaining that Goro's actual personality and the one that wasn't a total fake is only in the game's story for a grand total of 2 minutes and to get any actual character development you have to scour every piece of idle dialogue he gives, and to make matters worse, the dialogue he responds with in the cafe is fucking random anyway so you can end up getting nothing even if you try.
It's some of the worst design and structure I've ever seen, and it felt like they were trying to do this interesting character who had a real personality that was actual central to the themes of the game and interesting but they completely squandered it by relegating it to a single info dump.

If you're talking about the scene in the TV studio where he has a brief inner monologue, holy fuck you are grasping at straws, because next to nothing of importance comes out of that scene and it's just a brief cutaway after beating a miniboss to make it seem like you're progressing. Not even close to providing any development since it just has him thinking to himself "all these people are idiots" etc.

The other stuff he wrote about the villains, plot and MC's group is equally as absurd. I honestly believe he didn't play and understand the game. And my complaint isn't with having to read NPC dialogue, heck - you don't have to anyway. It's that Goro's character, one of the few with any potential, is poorly told. The dialogue itself is the problem, since it feels like I'm eating up scraps of what could've been a decent character, and even then I'm dissatisfied. There's barely any substance to him.
I anticipate your reply attacking how I "haven't played the game," or some other bullshit rather than an actual argument though.
