Smash 4 and Brawl simply aren't very good designed games for competitive play in the first place. By admission of the creator himself. There are various mechanics built into both games to intentionally stifle competitive play.

Melee is great not cause of the exploits, but because the engine is fast, fluid, and responsive. I agree that it could be a LOT better, and for many reasons, it doesn't stack up to actual fighting games like Blazblue or SF, simply out of design. No High/Lows, no Cross Ups, overpowered Counters, poor balance, etc...

But I also understand why Melee fans never adopted Brawl and Smash 4, they just aren't very good for competitive play.

Also, it should be noted that combos in SF began as a glitch. This entire genre only exists thanks to an exploit.

Making Overdrive have full invuln was not, since it makes it an extremely useful reversal.
Making Overdrive Raid possible was not, since it makes certain characters completely unable to use certain moves. (If you ODR the B attack in a basic A-B-C chain, you'll ODR through the C normal and can punish it's recovery.)
Making EAs have full invuln and NOT BE PUNISHABLE ON BLOCK was certainly not, since even if you call out an OD/ODR activation, you won't be able to keep up your pressure without risking getting hit by the EA.
Overdrive is great, but it's implementation was awful and has gotten worse as time went on. Bursts are essentially useless now, aside from saving your life from would-be kill combos.

Give something that actually deserves and needs it a chance. Pokken, Skullgirls, hell even KI even though it has a pretty sizable community and a very healthy amount of tournaments and has been at evo more then once already.

Pokken probably needs it the most even if Skullgirls deserves it more. The WiiU is dead, there's no announced switch port, and it doesn't even have the arcade characters, and demographically it's spread too wide for any of the groups it was aimed at to like it (FGC people assume it's casual because nintendo, smash people won't play it because it's too much of an actual fighter, Pokemon fans won't play it because their one obscure bromon isn't in)

Sunday games are in the arena, and considered the main event. Basically the closer your game is shown next to SFV (the actual main event) the more important it is. Yes its retarded. The times are a valid complaint, but its something you gotta work around if you want to show support for the game you like.

Honestly I was bummed that the game got bumped to AnimeEVO last year where I can't even find footage of the pools anymore and Melee was boring as all sin again. It's just not exciting seeing Fox vs Fox constantly. Compare that tournament with Smash4, the huge upset of Zero not winning for a change and Ally clinching it with Mario and Canada's first Evo win and it just doesn't remotely measure up. Plus Blazblue has some new pretty popular characters like Mai to show off so not much not to look forward to here.
