As for Fates...MAYBE what he means, or at least what I BELIEVE to be true, is that although it sold and did well, the game was utter hot GARBAGE and left a bad taste in peoples mouths. I don't think it will be received well in the long run and it likely did not help in integrating the franchise back to America fully.

Face it, Fates was a storyless characterless garbage vehicle. It did fine but it won't help popularity. Hint: Just because they threw tons of money on advertising, this fact does not change.

This is why I'd be perfectly okay with Fates being in crossover stuff like Warriors. I like the cast enough and the premise behind everyone is acceptable.

I just think the game itself, as it is, needs to be forgotten. Everything about Fates is easy to enjoy so long as you never played the game yourself, but a rerelease of the game is just gonna be a reminder of how whatever plans they had for the game all went to shit somehow.

seeing as this is a FE thread, I got a question about playing Awakening.

I've played through that game several times for a few hours, but then always restarted cause it feels like I'm not being totally efficient. Like, who to pair who up with and shit, does it matter all that much? cause there's such a trickle in of new characters that I pair characters up and they naturally seem to max out their bond or whatever together, and then a new character comes along and they seem a better fit for X character, and I restart the game to play "properly" with the ideal partners for characters.

Should I totally hold off on pairing people up until I have all the characters, or do partnerships not matter nearly as much as I think they do?

If you're playing on Hard/Classic or lower it really doesn't matter much.

You can get really into genetics and try to make the most broken children in existence, but nothing is really necessary to beat the game. In most situations you can pair up whoever you want as long as they S-rank in the end.

In general, getting skills that the kid won't be able to get on their own to make hybrid characters is the best path. Galeforce is a skill that a lot of people go for in awakening because it essentially breaks the game.

Because 3 (Mystery of the Emblem, SNES), 7 (Blazing Sword, GBA), 8 (Sacred Stones, GBA), 9 (Path of Radiance, GCN), or 12 (New Mystery of the Emblem, DS) are all great entry points. It'd really be up to how modern you want it, or the style of game you want.

If you have a 3DS, just play Awakening and don't over-think it (you can get yourself wrapped up in planning out relationships, classes and other shit outside of the game, which ends up making you not want to play the game).
If you don't have a 3DS, emulate Path of Radiance on Gamecube, it's that game that Ike's from.
If you can't emulate Gamecube, play either Shadow Dragon on the DS or the first official English "Fire Emblem" on GBA.

I agree. Fates felt more like a dating/pairing simulator than a SRPG. Nintendo really went with quantity over quality with the characters. It would have been much better to go with a much smaller number of well designed characters with better personalities/backstories rather than a bunch of cookie cutter anime tropes. This would also allow them to write a better story. Also what was with all those worthless, redundant classes? Does every class need a variant that can ride a horse or use staves? If nintendo felt the need to have a unique class for every character they should cut down on the number of characters, not make a bunch of redundant, useless classes. The quantity over quality approach nintendo is taking to this franchise is killing it.

My RD Soren could damage Black Knight in the river crossing map. However the speed meant that he died with 100% certainty, unlike my maxed out paragonephenee. (not yet third class, but she did survive with 3HP). But it was a weird run, Micaiah was fast and powerful, Haar was puny and Heather was the strongest unit, Ike was a wuss with 0 speed.
