The different forms don't even appear or have any spawning animations. They just Pop in while the previous form completely disappears. The location doesn't even matter and an inactive form seems to be able to still teleport to you and damage you, making it seem like you take damage from absolutely nothing.
If you get hit after a teleportation noise, that's the issue.
The boss is THAT bad.

I beat the new final boss.

I didn't think it could get any worse than Ultra Greed/Hush, but I was very much proven wrong. It's a horrendous combination of laziness and artificial difficulty (especially the untelegraphed teleports).

What is with Ed's hardon for damage scaling? Isaac's base gameplay is garbage, Isaac has a massive hitbox that doesn't lend itself well to bullet hell situations and constantly slides around like he's on ice, it's not a problem in most of the game because the rooms are short, sweet, and to the point but Hush and Delirium highlight the core problems of the game.

Afterbirth was the first DLC for Rebirth, it's pretty bad for numerous reasons. In summary, most of its "new" content was just shit like recoloured enemies with tanky health, along with a bunch of unnecessary nerfs (such as the infamous broken watch nerf).

Afterbirth+ just released; as you can tell by this thread, people aren't liking it. I didn't buy it myself, but it looks pretty dire.

Antibirth is an extraordinarily high-quality mod made by a few fans; I'd highly recommend trying it out - it's free and, despite suffering from occasional crashes, the content of it is superb.

I'm nowhere near as dedicated, but I agree that this is appalling.
I had a few serious complaints about Afterbirth, but AB+ blew AB out of the water in terms of sheer garbage.
And probably my #1 complaint is the fact that the DLC isn't $6.66 American.

Rebirth is a remake of the game. It's good, get it.
Afterbirth is a mediocre expansion of Rebirth. I'd recommend you to get it but since Antibirth is out and it's free get that instead.
Afterbirth+ is a shit expansion to the mediocre expansion of Rebirth. Do not get it at all costs. At least not now.

Rebirth was the remake. New engine, new look, fixed coding, tons more in terms of content and item synergies. On the bad side, the item pool started getting more diluted and the Chest made a Sheol run completely pointless.??? as a boss was also quite boring.
So, while the base game was a clear upgrade over the original, the late game and items were starting to lag behind.
Afterbirth was an expansion to Rebirth and just made the issues worse. Tons of crap items, tons of crap enemies, crap alternate floors, crap bosses, everything became diluted and you became increasingly unlikely to see the good stuff. Nothing else that was added outweighed this.
Afterbirth+ is an expansion to the expansion, and it's literally a big Fuck You from the developer.

Antibirth is a mod for the base Rebirth game that is currently still in development. So far, it has better items, way better thematics, better bosses, better alternate floors. It's lacking some of the good Features of Afterbirth though, since it's based on Rebirth. Also, while the new characters are interesting, they are severely underpowered and don't ever give a reason to play them outside of unlocking shit. Also, while the new bosses are good on average, they are in very small pools which makes runs quite repetitive. Remains to be seen if future updates will fix this.
