Why can no game do forward and rear radar right?
>>
>>362202862
>forward and rear radar instead of just 360 degree radar
Why
You need your radar for things at ~90 degrees anyway, and that's where front and rear radar fails the hardest
>>
>>362203057
Well, in terms of real planes, in ye olden days before AESA, mechanically scanned radar was pretty big, and so tended to only fit in the nose cone, and in some cases the tailcone.

So you'd mostly have planes with forward radar, and some with forward and reverse radar, and only a few AWACS planes with full 360 radar, which had a giant fucking radome on top.

So you seriously have no problem with the fact that they are releasing new ships almost every month, which is essentially DLC, to a game in alpha stage?

You know why they're doing it, to get more money out of the poor fucks who buy them. I cannot comprehend how anybody can be so retarded as to buy a DLC they cannot fully use.

The graphical fidelity in this game isn't "good detail", its designed to look good in trailers and bullshots so people would buy the ships, again.

Everything about this system is fucked up.

We havent even seen any proof of them actually working on a bigger universe, which is the main draw. All we've seen is one meagre system and autistically detailed base. Its just not possible to have that kind of detail on all the bases, so I guess there will be only a handful of them. There goes the "infinite universe" lol.

You have been cucked. Deal with it.

>So you seriously have no problem with the fact that they are releasing new ships almost every month, which is essentially DLC, to a game in alpha stage?
It's not essentially as DLC though. The preorder deals are laughably stupid, and blatantly not even close to worth it. They're essentially scamming idiots who don't realize how worthless what they're buying is. And more ships in a space game is definitely a good thing. So yes, I'm completely fine with them exploiting others to make a better game for me.

>The graphical fidelity in this game isn't "good detail", its designed to look good in trailers and bullshots so people would buy the ships, again.
Except it still looks great in game.

>We havent even seen any proof of them actually working on a bigger universe, which is the main draw. All we've seen is one meagre system and autistically detailed base. Its just not possible to have that kind of detail on all the bases, so I guess there will be only a handful of them.
Now maybe, and try actually thinking here for once, the reason it's taking so long is because they're building the rest of the world to the same detail we've seen so far. Stuff like that isn't "not possible", it's only not possible within the context of standard AAA shit which needs to be pushed out in a year or two. More time = more detail. More money = more time. That is simply how game development works.
>>
>>362205975

You're an idiot. That money is going to the private bank accounts, or down the drain making sure glasses in a space bar are super high-fidelity.

>Except it still looks great in game.

Yes, but its not because Roberts wants you to have nice graphics, but because he wants so get the most money before the scam is up.

>Now maybe, and try actually thinking here for once, the reason it's taking so long is because they're building the rest of the world to the same detail we've seen so far.

Yes, that's the problem. If it took them this long to come up with one part of a solar system and a base, its going to be at least 10 more years before it's done. Are you prepared to wait that long? :-D

I thought that No Man's Sky would make people think more about gaming ads and how they can be fucked over by them, but I guess that's not happening. Once someone has decided a game will be "the best ever", no amount of evidence will make them see the truth. It's sad.

That's clearly hyperbole, but still, most games aren't going to have much finished content until they're very far along in development; it's heavily rear-loaded timewise.
>Are you prepared to wait that long? :-D
Yes, a good game will be a good game now or 10 years from now. I put down my money initially and have barely looked at the game since. Just because you're a petulant child who needs things NOW doesn't mean everyone else is.

It's not hyperbole. I projected it from the current speed of developement, and it was an optimistic guess. How many solar systems is it supposed to have? More than 40? Please, it's never going to be done with the current level of detail.

Problem with Star Citizen is that it is on a schedule. Its a crowd-funded game and backers demand progress. They are getting angry now, just look at the subreddit. It wouldnt matter how long the game is being developed in a normal game, but this isnt normal - its crowd-funded.

And yes, it does havea lot in common with No Man's Sky. Most backers imagine this vast world that is alive, Roberts promises new features every stream but we never actually see them. They focus more on how it looks than how it plays. It made millions even before launch. It's got a cult following of people who can't stand it getting any criticism - see

You can get it for like half that if you don't care about the singleplayer.

>>
>>362211893
I'll admit that I haven't payed much attention since the initial campaign, but I highly doubt SQ42 will have much Mass Effect in it. They repeatedly said that it was a linear, classic campaign, and considering they've got quite a bit of starpower on board they're probably going for anything much open, and introducing roleplaying elements would be a little silly.
>>
Reminder that most /v/'s beloved games took 5-6 years to complete.
>>
>>362210624

Yes, they update them weekly by pushing them back. Lol

>>362210637

Every live stream I've seen starts with them announcing a ship sale, then they start talking about all the cool features they are going to have but we never see them and forget about them since there are so many promises. This is the part that reminds me NMS the most. Remember the Murray interviews? He sounded really similar.

>>362210448
Im not saying its a scam. Im saying the scope theyre going for is unattainable and that theyre concentrating on the wrong things. Graphics should be the last thing you work at, not the first. Wheres the universe? Where are the mechanics like exploration, mining, etc?

>>362210909

Some headlines:

>Is anyone else started to get tired of hearing about ships? I'm sure most of us would love to hear more about how in-game mechanics will work and the work being done on that. Kinda burned out on ships.
>It would be nice if basic starter ships got some love before 3.0. Average Aurora experience is pretty bad.
>Dear CIG: when your community comes away from the last 3 streaming events more disappointed than excited it maybe time to take a step back and rethink your approach.

>>362211109

>But it clearly is,

Then why have they pushed through so many release dates, If they knew what they were doing, they would have set a realistic one. And you have explained nothing, except for saying "they are building the world because I say so"

Roberts always had a publisher before it, a set sum of money, and a whip over him. He just got crazy and wanted to create the penultimate space simulation, which just is not possible with its current scope.

>But then, you're too young to remember even freelancer, aren't you?

Fuck you, Freelancer is my all-time favorite game. I played it more times than i can count and put easily 600 hours into the game.

>Cool features they're going to have

All those cool features they're going to have is them repeating what they've talked about before. Sometimes going into more detail from the basic premise. They haven't added on a new idea for a feature in years.

>Remember the Murray interviews

Yes. He lied about features that were in the game such as multiplayer, was very indirect with answers whenever someone asked a question, and constantly tried to ignore other questions by focusing on other crap. Not to mention the gameplay he showed was the same crap for two years, just with different settings.

Contrast that with what Roberts has shown. Which has been different for the most part, save for the last stream they did which many people agree should be avoided next year in favor of more content.

Can someone explain to me what CI's plan for this game is?

Do they intend to trickle in content, little by little, until the game is "done" while at the same time keeping the dev cycle transparent? Or will the current current build eventually coalesce into a playable alpha at which point they'll continue working on the game behind close doors, in order to keep some stuff as a surprise for the final release?

I'm completely clueless about the game, but what I've seen so far has intrigued me.

>>362214401

>>
>>362214142
somewhere in between.

they intend to build a couple systems out fully to be the beta, and then continue building the rest behind closed doors while the two beta systems are used to work out the kinks, then eventually they will open the floodgates and have a full size release. also, everything for the single player campaign is being kept under wraps
>>
>>362214142
CIG, not CI.

>>362214401
Right now, no because there's only a tiny "slice" of the game. In the future, potentially. While they have been updating the current build similarly to an early access game, it's an alpha so it's a small version. Nobody really knows how they're going to implement the majority of content down the road.

I assume you've done all the jobs in Crusader from 2.5? I think they added some, but I haven't played much of Crusader, enjoying SM.

They did add a couple of derelict starfarers and a bunch of other stuff you can raid for money and guns and pvp shenanigans though, it's pretty much exactly what they showed in gamescom, so nobody can accuse them of mocking that stuff up just for hype and never releasing it.

try this stuff out, they update it every time there's a new patch. also it heavily depends on what mode you're playing; Crusader is by far the worst for frame drops.

also, I've downgraded my resolution in the most recent (the FPS stuff) all the way to 1280x720. other than some grainy text, it's barely noticeable.
>>
>>362218950

If you are in the Persistent Universe (Crusader) then that is normal, there is a serious network bottleneck.

If you are on one of the Arena Commander modes then there is something wrong, you should be getting at least 50-60 FPS.
>>
>>362219368
Haven't tried any of the other modes so that might be it. Is it really related to network issues though? Is there any way to explore the universe in a single player instance or something?

>Is it really related to network issues though?

It's probably limited by server FPS, which gets hammered by all of the AI ships running.

Also worth noting that there is a CPU affinity issue for some people. It is unlikely that you have this problem with an i7 thought.

When the game is running open the Performance tab of task manager and get the view that shows individual CPU cores. One or two cores, normally 2 and 6, are prioritised by the game and if they are constantly at 100% usage then this can cause issues. If you see any cores locked at 100% then go to Details in the task view, and set Affinity to exclude (untick) those cores.

The load will be distributed evenly to the other cores and you will get a slightly higher framerate, with noticeably fewer hangs and sudden framerate drops.

the package that is currently ~$35 is the cheapest entry package you will see from now on. from there you can earn your way up in game.
>>
>>362223634

At the moment you can't earn anything permanent, but once the game goes live everything - absolutely everything - will be available for in-game currency.

Right now you can earn rental credits, which allow you to play with a ship or piece of equipment for 7 days.

I would advise new players to spam the racing mode. You learn how to fly and you get rental points fast, as long as you are on your final lap when the race ends. If you can win the race then it is ridiculously efficient to get points and try any ship you want.
