Chloe honestly doesn't seem all that torn up about it.

It's absolutely amazing, the most immersive thing I've ever played, and it had the biggest emotional impact on me of any media I ever consumed.

b) Had actually altered the original timeline by either not stepping out or not saving Chloe, depending on which you feel better fits the path of time

And then we have that whole fucking plothole of why going back to stop her autopilot from saving Chloe wouldn't work

And then we have one single argument for why it could work, which is that the universe gave Max that power to save Chloe and then takes it if from her if she chooses not to use it, in which case literally fuck the universe.

I'm not going to pretend to know how Chaos Theory works. But in the game's rules, this does make sense. When Max rewinds time, she's actually rewriting history. That's why when she picks up items, she can rewind time, and keep the item. Because history has been rewritten to allow for her to have the item in a previous point of time. We don't KNOW what was rewritten though. That's the crazy part. All we know, is that it conveniently fits. So what this means, is that Max is actually pushing a bunch of past events around blindly. HENCE, why the storm comes. She is creating chaos by blindly changing time.

Whether Max has her powers or not doesn't necessarily matter. What matters, is how unaffected time remains. Max may have always had the power, or maybe she only just got it in that one moment. It doesn't matter. So long as she doesn't use it, everything is fine.

When Max rewinds the first time, she makes minor changes, like answering the question correctly or whatever. But the big change was Chloe's death. It was required for Chloe to die, in order to prevent the storm.

Because future Max interfered with past Max in the instance of Chloe's death, past Max never use her powers to save Chloe. Instead, from past Max's perspective, she attempted to save Chloe, only to have blacked out, losing time. And then waking up to realize Chloe is dead. It's uncertain if Past Max uses her powers from that point, or if her powers even remains from that point. As Chloe seemed to be the motive for her power existing, then hypothetically, removing Chloe would be the reason her powers no longer exists. In any case, we know Past Max never used her powers beyond the bathroom scene, because the tornado never comes.

So the only inconsistency between times, is answer Jefferson's question, and then sitting on the floor of the bathroom, instead of reaching out.

For me the ending isn't even so much about saving Chloe vs saving the Bay. For me its keeping time powers vs saving the Bay. Chloe hardly factors into it. You can either go back, let Chloe die and never use your powers again or you can have an actual superpower that could save millions of lives.

And this is only the hindsight version of things. From the characters do they really have any guarantee that going back in time will fix things aside from a vague premonition? Time could be just as broken afterward and now you're in the exact same situation except Max probably has a higher chance of dying herself because she's in town.

I'd rather take the save Chole ending and tweak it to hold onto that photo in case natural disasters continue to escalate and the sun falls out of orbit.

I bought this during the steam sale last week and was completely blown away. I can understand why some people might not be able to get into it but I really loved the characters, the setting, the themes, and the soundtrack was great too. The ending hit me pretty hard too, felt like I lost a friend.

Also Kate is best girl followed closely by Max.

Think of it like this: Things should have happened like this: Max goes into bathroom, doesn't act, Chloe dies. Nathan gets captured and Jefferson is found out. No one else dies or lives that shouldn't have. Even Kate doesn't kill herself since Nathan is found out to be a creep.

Letting Chloe live is something that leads to an extreme change to the timeline. It's not that Chloe's actions directly impacts a sequence of events leading to the storm; it's that her mere existence leads to the storm being created because the universe and time in particular doesn't like being fucked with in such a huge manner. It even tries to kill Chloe several times, with train tracks and richocheting bullets, and Jefferson. Max answering the question correctly doesn't really matter because her classmates don't care and Jefferson is going to the chair.

Do you get it now? As soon as Max saved Chloe, everything was fucked.

I don't think we can judge them for something like that, when it wasn't released. The time travel was never the focus of the game; it was how it affected the characters. So taking the focus off that might have been the right decision. Do you have a source on the original ending so that I may read up on it? I can't seem to find anything.

Problem is that.They forgot all about tornado thing on episode 1-4 focused on Rachel Amber thing etc.
Then in last episode they suddenly bring up tornado thing and forget about all of other things (rachel,prescotts,supernatural things that they foreshadowed etc)

And yeah that ending may be cut-content, but what I meant is that ending was showing their intention about time-travel (since they couldn't change whole story after episode 4's release)
