No Man's Sky was a good tech demo. It had interesting mechanics, but the game itself was a flop because they don't know how to do anything or add content. Star Citizen has someone who can do both of those things right now, and adding good technical people will only benefit the game

Eh. I played it during the free month thing. It's fun, it flies good, but ran like shit in the MMO bit. Apparently it was the netcode or something.

They've got something here, they just need to actually finish it. Not my style to pay for unfinished games. I'll get it in 6 years.

Jokes aside, from what I've seen, I doubt this'll be released until mid 2018.
>>
if it's good then i'll enjoy it. the guy in charge of the entire thing doesn't seem to know what the fuck he's doing though
>>
>>358052472
He knows what he's doing, sort of. He's just an idiot who is too focused on perfection than with making actual progress. Same thing happened with Freelancer, way too ambitious for its time. If it hadn't been for Microsoft taking over and that fucker leaving the game might never have been finished. Many promised features were never realized because of this.

>super ambitious

>pc exclusive for maximum features and performance
>no greedy coorporate funders breathing down their necks
>super transperant development

Even if it's a complete shit game in the end, it's still a pretty damn admirable effort. It's just hip to be misarable and cynical, I guess.

They are greedy corporates themselves.

So transparent that they engage private investigators to find leakers.

Not him, but servers are limited to 20 something people right now. at least in the main space bit.

You can fight inside ships when they have the room for it though.
>>
>>358061058
The servers don't support that amount of players right now. But I have been able to do it with somewhere around the 24(I think this much) max right now. It's pretty neat to watch people dog fighting around you at high speeds while you're slowly making your way through EVA to another ship.
>>
>>358061245

Oh man that is awesome. Now I don't have to build a rig to play it.
>>
>>358049809
hope: it's a genuinely good game that makes even more money post release than it already has, and as such causes the golden age of space vidya
fear: it's bad and 'flops' (unless they somehow spend more than they already made this doesn't seem likely) and nobody attempts an ambitious space game ever again because star citizen would be aprime example of why it would be a bad idea

expectation: the game probably won't release before 2019, which could be very good or very bad depending on the reasons for the delay. very good because everyone will have sick hardware then and be able to enjoy all of that game, very bad if its because they cant successfully do what they seek out to do and the game arrives a hollow husk compared to what it could have been

I know you're new here, but let me tell you about someone just like Chris Roberts. Long ago, a man by the name of Peter Molyneux....

Star Citizen is a scam and money-laundering scheme.

They take millions each month by selling literal JPEGs (concept art). They use these millions to create fancy CryEngine bullshot demos for the press. They use those bullshots to cash in again.
They don't actually create a game. They do this for five years straight now.
The fanbase is a literal cult with all properties of a religion - including death threats to people who leave them.
The money laundering happens on the so-called "grey market" on Reddit. People with large sums of illicit earnings (drug money etc.) use it buy and sell Star Citizen JPEGs at a loss to launder it this way. It works the same with other game items, but Star Citizen offering up to $15,000 packages allows easy movement and laundering of large sums.

No, anon, but we also observe new content with a healthy grain of salt and skepticism. Chris Roberts has made a LOT of extremely shitty design decisions, and has morphed the project well beyond the bounds of what was kickstarted. Every sign points to a flop, and the only people fighting that are the cultists that treat the game like some religion and keep feeding this faggot money for his feature-creeped vaporware.

Which would be fine if they stayed in their quarantine on their shitty forum echo chamber where anyone that disagrees with them gets harassed and potentially even doxxed, but you faggots have to spill onto other websites to shill your shitty mass multiplayer game that thought cryengine, of all engines was at all a good idea.

Yeah but it's gonna be a campaign. Seems like kind of a waste to have this huge world to fuck around in, just to do a couple of combat missions flying some predetermined ships. I think they aim at Scorpio now.
It's a PS3-tier 7th gen engine (CryEngine 3.7) so once you remove everything it can't do (multiplayer, large maps, vehicles, crosshairs), it should at least run with 24 fps.
Then you're basically going to watch 10 hours of unskippable cutscenes featuring Chris Roberts wife and tickle porn actress Sandi Gardiner and that's it.
You are going to pay 70 bucks for this.

They create bullshot set-piece demos to fool people into believing they develop a game. You know from No Man's Sky, that's a lot easier than creating a proper game.
And yes, these demo reels get thrown away afterwards.

FD has less than 1/3 the employees working on ED that CIG has had for 2 years working on SC. Allowing CIG 2 years ramp up and design time (discounting all CR statements that they were well on their way in 2011), and an additional 2 years development time, they should right now be able to release something approaching ED v1.0. Or maybe at the least, updating the mini-PU in the same regular waves as FD did, rolling in the core mechanics with major updates during Alpha every couple of months.

I feel sorry for the devs. Art and lighting are great. 3D modellers have done the job asked of them. The problems all stem from decisions at the top and that is where responsibility for all the wasted money at CIG sits.

For CIG to buy a $15-$20,000 space door (much less renovate a Hollywood studio), using money given by backers "to develop a game" with the game in the state it is, and then flat-out lying to backers about it being "old plywood and a used garage door opener"; I don't even . . . that right there perfectly captures the issues with the project leader's mind-set and the cognitive dissonance of the true believers.

>>
>>358067738

ED looks really cool, but I see a lot of complaints about it being empty and getting boring pretty quick. Plus FD have a ten year plan, where they will release pretty pricey "updates" to ED every now and then.

There are pros and cons to both methods, I suppose. CIG aims at releasing a some what complete game for about $60. For the complete ED experience, you will have spent hundreds of dollars for the product you where promised 10 years ago.

I wish them bost the best, though. I'm almost tempted to buy a Xbone just to fuck around in a space triangle. PS4 release, when?

Also, that door thing is just hilarious. People got their panties in a knot because CIG bought a space door. $20,000 out of the 100 millions they had at the moment. Perspectiv, people.
