It's possible to OC what the original hardware would run, but you'd need an even stronger computer to keep up with that.
And it might introduce bugs depending on the game.

It depends. If a framerate lock was present in the original game you're screwed unless you can figure out how to patch it (e.g. games locked at 30fps) or if it emulation is very accurate to the original hardware it will also experience the same drops.

If you let you're virtual machine run more powerful virtual hardware you can avoid the drops. For instance Dolphin let's you overclock the emulated CPU and avoid slowdowns in a lot of games. I think Cemu is aiming to be an enhancing emulator, and the only framerate lock in Bayo 2 is "don't go above 60".

The main practical argument for open source anything (not just emulators) is there being a higher chance of drawing in potential contributors and offering more rapid development as a result. Switching from closed to open doesn't really disrupt any workflow, so that isn't an argument.

That being said, I understand the main reason he's keeping it closed is for patreon bucks. And that's fine, I don't really have an opinion on that either way.

I just remember that Perfect Dark and Goldeneye run way better on emulators than they do on the N64, and that Gradius 3 is harder on emulators because you actually kind of need that slowdown to survive when there's too much shit flying around.
