The narrative got pretty butchered when we had to cut it down (about a third of the campaign got cut) but the bigger alteration came when we had to adapt the story to the squad system which was never part of the original plan.
That being said, most of the team, myself included, never disliked 5he story we shipped. I feel like when you make something, you get attached to it and grow a bias.

It was a pricing error. I was actually directly involved in working with this. It was our first real DLC release and we fumbled it. Microsoft has a pretty strict policy about what to do when there's a pricing error, so yes, we released a "patch" that locked the downloaded content behind a paywall. Yes, that's legal via the terms and service agreement of XBL.

Halo 5's multiplayer is great, but 343 never managed to achieve the same level of quality for the campaigns.

Why is it that you guys don't do much with vehicular combat, and the level design in single player is always lacking. Halo sometimes had backtracking, some people didn't like it, but when done right it made you feel like you were on an actual alien world instead of just going through corridors.

Do you guys have like a "no vehicle" policy or purposely try to limit their usage? 343's Halo games rarely feature the points where you see aliens and human AI fighting, or if they do they feel muted.


Also, what is up with the art direction of the games? The maps in multiplayer are terribly, and I mean really terribly bland. Halo always used to have a gorgeous set of MP maps, but 5's are only interesting in their design. Is this part of the e-sports focus 5 took, because it never stopped previous Halos from being serious competitively but having gorgeous maps.

First off, this was the first Halo project that we really worked on mostly in studio. Certain affinity wasn't involved so we had to commit extra staff to the multiplayer. Secondsly, we still had to pull people to finish the campaign which like I said got HEAVILY altered with the inclusion of the squad mechanic. Seriously, the squad stuff was at least indirectly the result of the vast majority of the shortcomings of the game.

It's a way to make physics a lot better and animations sync up a bit more, while often being less resource demanding.
Halo 5 also uses some of the most advanced real time optimizations and adjustments in the industry. It constantly is lowering and raising settings such as shadows, draw distance, lighting, and particle effects on top of the overall resolution in order to maintain an absolute constant 60 fps at all times. If you know much about how games are made its borderline programming magic, and it makes sense why they couldn't do splitscreen

While this is admittedly sorta cool from a technical perspective, many parts of the game look like complete shit due to the LOD scaling.

Take a map like Raid on Apex 7, things look good up close but at a distance all the trees and foliage scale down to shitty looking 2D sprites

Same with how players and characters in the distance become 2D sprites with their animations cut down to 5fps

Can't confirm, but the Req pack system was a colossal money bank for Microsoft. More money was made through it than sales of the game to my understanding, which is not rare for games that have such a system. Same with spartan assault and Strike. So I would guess it's here to stay. Why the fuck did they keep extending Chiefs story past 3? That story is over, it should have ended. Nobody wanted the abomination that is the story past 3. If you're standing at the very back of a Warzone base and look at players running in and out of the front entrance, their movement is visibly choppy, something like 5 or 10 fps.

Wierd stuff like when you get hit, your spartan's body expands quickly to fill up the size of the entire rendered map before vanishing. On his last day he activated one of them for the Rumble Pit Playlist. It was up for about an hour. My supervisor came sprinting into the main office and screamed "WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH REACH?!" I had to clean up the mess but everybody just started hysterically laughing even though most of them hadn't done anything with Reach in over a year.

At what point did the team at 343 decide to make bad games instead of good games? It seems like an interesting creative decision to intentionally make terrible games.

Why did y'all sell me a game that still doesn't work? Literally can't connect to people in MCC. I tried fucking YESTERDAY. And it still does not work.

Was the team that built 5's forge completely separate from the team who built the rest of the game? And if not, why was every single other part of the game awful, but forge really good?

Was it a priority during development to make the movement and TTK just like every other modern shooter and to intentionally destroy anything unique about Halo? Or did that just come along with the team's terrible ideas?

I am a SGD student and I have been to a ubisoft studio 3 times to game test, BLACKLISTING in the game industry is real and once you are in it you are fucked. the game industry is very small so most developers know each other or know people who work at other studios
