Can we get a /space/ thread going here?
>tfw space colonization will happen soon
Just reinstalled Freelancer on my PC.
I wish Freelancer had Space Radio you could listen too while flying around.
Also Rhino is best Freighter.
I've always imagined that the first people to leave earth to form colonies would be religious sects like the people aboard the Mayflower.
I for see Mormon colonies and maybe a few colonies created by various sects of Islam like the Kurds.
>we may see Mormon Pilgrim ships sailing the stars spreading the Mormon faith.
>yfw Kurdisia becomes the first recognized Islamic Colony
Here is a chart of some of the ones we know about.
Barely a fraction into their journey they will be overtaken by a more advanced ship. They'll arrive AC to find the charred ruins of a completely colonised planet destroyed in some war they never knew happened.
>you were born at just the right time to experience the orbital boom
Man that thought is really scary but awesome at the same time.
Now I want to see a Cowboy Bebop type of game. Would be pretty cool.
>>tfw space colonization will happen soon
>tfw it won't be in our lifetimes
>start wearing form fitting body suits
Bubble suits now anon.
>exploring the solar system
>enjoying the sights
>trying to answer the mystery
Comfy space games anyone?
>all that US money that goes into killing sandniggers
>Nasa budget only a small fraction of it
Get your shit together USA
>you will never cook marshmellows at campfires all around the solar system
I have a question. I want to get Elite: Dangereux, but I want to know if my system can chug with an Oculus DK2 and a GTX 760 w/t a small factory overclock. Anyone have experience with it? Is it good enough?
Normalization has to start somewhere.
They won IGF Grand prize. $30k. No updates on the web page yet.
Outer wilds, good anon.
May your adventures be wondrous.
Depends. For 400€ you can look the planets, some bright galaxies and clusters. And moon and sun of course with a filter. It's amazing to see Saturn and it's rings and Jupiter for the first time.
Pic related, a pic I took a while ago. That's probably the clearest you can see with a cheap telescope
I feel like nobody cares about space anymore. Every day i look into the sky and think "damn i wonder whats out there" i feel like the government should be putting more money into space discovery. Fuck i love space.
I don't know, you'd think if people invented rockets that could zip around the galaxy they would have the decency to travel to the generation ship that's still stuck in the Oort Cloud and tow them to Alpha Centauri in a few days
Yeah, nah. Jews and Muslims are basically the same. The only real difference is that the former will stab you in the back while the latter stabs you in the chest.
>tfw most likely will be dead before affordable commercial space travel between colonies
Damn, now that I think about it...
Microsoft got a port of Elite to the Xbone because the PS4 would have no competition in space sims.
Just like how they bought tomb raider to compete with Uncharted.
Yeah people might get that. For me it was more like a proof that there actually are planets and stuff out there.
It's stacked and edited, might not be the most natural color balance or saturation. The moons are not visible (well you can barely see two right of the planet) because of exposure, having the moons with it makes the planet too bright.
Here's one earlier with the moons edited in
>people cryo sleeping for 40 thousand years will experience the Imperium of man
Nah, White man of European descent who undertstands that Jewry has destroyed Western civilisation in the last century. Islam was rendered impotent centuries ago by European technological advances. They only became a problem again with Jew policies that opened the borders of the West to them.
/pol/ needs to leave. The future belongs to every single human being.
You think people in 50,000 years will give a single goddamn about your bullshit? All that will matter is that we went out there.
This is why we can't into space, we just bicker at one another about who is the most shitty.
>First orbital space hotel
>Terrorist blows it up to 'send a message'
>Kessler effect ensues
>Everyone trapped on earth because one dipshit couldn't keep his ideals reasonable
Why should we rely on national governments? They've had their chance and they continually show a constant devotion to petty Earth politics. If it happens, it won't be a government, but a group, foundation, or corporation.
>The future belongs to every single human being.
No it doesn't. Niggers will never contribute to anything. Aboriginals will never contribute to anything. Mestizos will never contribute to anything.
>You think people in 50,000 years will give a single goddamn about your bullshit?
Likely even more so as they will have a far more advanced understanding of genes and thus will have absolute and unquestionable proof that shitskins are indeed hopeless at the genetic level and cause deleterious damage to advanced peoples.
You can't "take a future". That doesn't make any sense, anon. Everyone on board Spaceship Earth has to play a role in our departure.
Infact, the next improvements in space travel will be made by private companies with the intent of mining asteroids, it was already proven alot of them are full of precious minerals.
For now the governaments aren't interested in exploring space, and if you are wondering why nasa went to the moon to begin with it's because it was a huge dick contest between super powers "look guys we can send missiles in space and land on the moon, you aren't safe from our nuclear devices".
They're too slow and mostly can't get nothing done unless they get huge sums of money
NASA just happens to be a part of the military budget, dunno why. I'm fine with US shoving money into defensing their country, but the amounts of money they put into operations in Middle East is just ludicrous and I don't see what they gain with that
>Everyone on board Spaceship Earth has to play a role in our departure.
They won't. Much like now, only a small proportion of the world actually does anything of worth in society. The rest are along for the ride. This is ingrained within our species as pack mentality. A few superior individuals carry the group.
>You can't "take a future". That doesn't make any sense
So naive m8, who holds the power holds the future.
The rich are going to space, the poor will die on earth, you aren't leaving anytime soon.
That's why Apollo was funded, but I've seen and read enough about the program to feel that at least some of the people involved actually had some vision with regards to the future of the race. Dick measuring contest or not, it was a gigantic milestone.
I think you're wrong. Just like with the opening of the New World to European colonists, a great deal of the people who depart will be downtrodden and poor, trying to seek new opportunity in a virgin land. I wouldn't be surprised to see indentured servitude pop back up under a new name.
>going on a space ship to colonize another planet is analogous to getting on a boat
Do you have any idea how much it would cost per head? How much training every individual would have to have?
Space is fucking big, yo.
And i don't see ftl happening to be honest.
>30,000 years into the future
>many planets colonized by humans
>many galaxies colonized by humans because FTL travel
>at no point was life ever found on any other planet prior to colonization
>the feel when Earth truly was the center of the universe.
I get my space fix from /tg/.
CYOA threads are my secret passion
>Just like with the opening of the New World to European colonists,
Oh you mean the colonization that the european empires rushed for resources while they were waging war with each other and that massacrated the native civilizations of the "new world"?
They didn't go there because they wanted to explore, they were sent by the european kings to expand their territory, gain new resources and thus gain the upper hand over the others, they killed and were ready to kill even more for those.
A spot on a cryogenic voyage to another world will always cost far, far more than the total wealth an average person could accumulate in their entire life.
A person who boards a generational ship will not survive the journey.
I know what you mean.
I think there is a Traveler thread still up at the moment.
tfw your profession is one of those ones that wont be needed when we reach space colonization and exploration, or at the least wont be applied that much
Say what you want but it's still cool as fuck that we have this guy on Mars.
I autistically created the big 150 companion space opera CYOA.
Curiosity Self-Portrait at 'Mojave' Site on Mount Sharp
>This self-portrait of NASA's Curiosity Mars rover shows the vehicle at the "Mojave" site, where its drill collected the mission's second taste of Mount Sharp.
>The scene combines dozens of images taken during January 2015 by the Mars Hand Lens Imager (MAHLI) camera at the end of the rover's robotic arm. The pale "Pahrump Hills" outcrop surrounds the rover, and the upper portion of Mount Sharp is visible on the horizon. Darker ground at upper right and lower left holds ripples of wind-blown sand and dust.
>have a billion ideas for a space opera GURPS game
>map drawn, timeline written, empires laid out
>none of my RPG friends like space opera enough to get into it
Carving a giant dick on some planet's surface for them to theorize about it.
Or building a network of temples holding artifacts, displaying cryptic messages. Cosmic puzzle they try to solve for centuries only to reveal some inane shit like image macros or pez dispensers.
Everything about earth, the moon, earths orbit, the moon's pull on the earth, the moon reflecting sunlight at night, earths axis and rotation, our distance from our sun and the output of energy from our sun; all of that combined is what makes life possible on earth.
it's a long and specific recipe, especially since Earth and The Moon used to be one planetary body in the solar system billions of years ago until it smashed into another planet that used to exist.
maybe theres other ways to get life, but we certainly havent found it.
We have a sample size of one. I suggest we hold off on making any assumptions about what life may be possible until we can precisely define what "life" is.
Baby don't hurt me, don't hurt me, no more.
But it is a game. They've shown ship combat almost every trailer and on the ground combat in 2 of them.
At the very least it's a better space engine with some extra game elements in it, even if it's still more about exploring then gameplay.
It is, yes.
At PAX were you? Was there a demo for the FPS module?
The only game that is big enough to play a proper galactic empire without going full Aurora is Distant Worlds.
And its fucking shit.
TFW O'Neill cylinders and Bernal spheres will never be a real thing
>friend gets me Star Citizen for my birthday
>try it out
>PC too damn technologically backwatered to run it
>loading for like 10 minutes to even enter flight sim
>don't have the money to upgrade
>really want to play it
fug, why'd they have to make it so graphics heavy, it's space what's there to animate really
>the next couple hundred years will lead to large corporations being the only ones having the capital to actually really do anything in space
>governments will only exist on a planet and its orbit and essentially just act as a constable force, with corporations having the money and power to have the final answer in laws
>corporations competing for mineral rich asteroids in the asteroid belt, especially ones with rare metals
>smaller companies with a few ships or even just wealthy individuals with just one are hired to haul cargo back and forth and do odd jobs
>private security companies with ships begin sprouting up and being hired by corporations to patrol their sectors and stop people from mining their shit
>incidents all over the place of people mining asteroids that aren't there's or trying to move some into their sector, or flinging the garbage remnants of mined asteroids into some one elses territory
>no real government actually around to enforce anything at the belt
>shit slowly escalates, corporations force their security companies to protect their sector better or they won't have their contract any longer
>they start putting less than lethal deterrents on their patrol ships to get people to leave and stay out, like EMP cannons and shit
>small arms race as more powerful and dangerous stuff are used to deter intruders
>people begin dying from all sorts of accidents of excessive force
>escalates further as the corporations feel they need to "protect themselves"
>everyone begins to "protect themselves" and a full on space war envelopes
notHAPPENING in our life time ;_;
W-Well fuck them, anon! We have eachother!
Nah, I'm in Europe, but they were giving some PAX code to the people that were there for a free trial of the hangar module and the dogfighting one until the 16th
I've decided if I can't get a group to run that universe I'll just turn it into a book.
Until the muslims and buddhists form a mega religion and we nuke the Earth to kill all the robots.
Damn straight they would, they sent one to the moon. Mars will be a treasure trove of science when we get boots there.
They governments might not be but a dutch company that wants to make a reality show is. Mars one. One way trip to Mars that will be televised. What could go wrong.
Trying to understand how big everything is is just silly.
Post cool looking spaceships already.
Preferably battleships, of course
Who /revelation space/ here? Reading hard sci-fi has given me space autism.
>tfw showed this exact image to my professor once
>we talk about how incomprehensibly huge the universe is
It's so goddamn cool.
U wot m8?
Why do you say so?
It's Dune, brah.
What music do you think of when you think of space?
I won't call you a faggot, I'll encourage you to go fucking buy it right now and read that shit. Don't stop reading untill you're done I say.
Light up and read it, especially if you like philosophy or history at all.
>space colonization will happen soon
Nope. Not unless your definition of "soon" includes the next century or so.
Space stations are way off because the effect of microgravity on the human body is utterly catastrophic, and we simply can't survive out there for long.
Planetary colonization is way off because, guess what: Other planets are uninhabitable by human standards. The amount of work we would have to do to set up even a temporary settlement on any other planet would be completely infeasible, let alone a permanent colony.
The Mass Effect OST's "Uncharted Worlds"
Tool's Album :"Lateralus"
Mahler's 3rd and 5th Symphonies.
Friendly reminder that new research provides more evidence for a sea once covering most of Mars' nothern hemisphere.
The second book in the 'main' trilogy primarily covers one group chasing another group/person to a different system while both groups use intertial dampeners to increase acceleration and it captures the effects that this has on the ship, crews, etc.
I never thought a book like this would become one of my favorite singular books of all time.
In the universe, it's suggested that past civilizations had developed FTL travel but wiped themselves out of existence doing so.
I can see why. But you need some tension too.
Damn straight. Mahler is the best. I also love Strauss' symphonies and I'd dare even say some of Edvard Grieg's short compositions.
If you liked those Mass Effect songs, you'd like Sins of a Solar Empire OST. Give it a try, it's all up on YT.
Have some ultra high res Saturn.
want me to post more of my space engine screenshots? This is my personal fav
Someone had made a webm of both these vids
>tfw Based Putin is doing his best to restart the Cold War and space race
For me, it's something big, and warmly organic/home-made.
Sleek is okay if it isn't smooth chrome
It has to be cool.
Whatever you think is cool is up to you.
Personally I like semi-blocky dynamic designs that can change forms during landing and such. I'm no fan of the extremely skeletal functional designs NASA often does with their sondas and other deep space satellites.
I liked Babylon 5 a lot though, it seemed to just work.
Enjoy being eaten by space daemons whenever you go above the speed of light.
That game is comfy as hell, until the comet I parked on heads straight into the fucking thorny asshole planet and I'm running to my ship as this brambly fucker looms ever larger on the horizon until finally we plunge through its surface and the comet vanishes and I'm frantically jetpacking to my mosquito ship and I get inside and get control but I'm in the middle of the black cloud and have no idea what direction is the way out as I spiral deeper and deeper into the core of this monster and reality suddenly melts away and my life flashes before my eyes, then I'm back on a familiar shitty crater talking to some bitch nigga about launch codes.
Then it's not so comfy.
>tfw borg cubes are literally flying ghetto space favelas
Hopefuly the one that we colonize
Even tho I'm a big fan of 40k, I've always found the ship designs to be too much for my taste
The only effective warship design is a missile carrier and that's boring as fuck.
I always liked the ships in Halo, personally.
Don't give a fuck.
Pretty sure it hit the alien reactor or some shit. I haven't seen the move in a while.
RATE THESE BASED ON HOW FEASIBLE THEY ARE
>cold (or at least not sun-hot) fusion
>reasonably easy terraforming
I love the gold plated Amarr dildos, no sarcasm. Stylized but still seem feasible.
I love the Covenant ship designs, they look like birds of prey. Like alien fish-reptile hunters. You see the battlecruisers soaring like sharks on the hunt, their stingrays and their lampreys latching on and engaging.
I love these semi-organic designs in shape that aren't inherently organic themselves.
The artists has some really awesome stuff, I have like 20+ stuff of his saved.
They're pretty beautiful.
I'm a sucker for things like the designs from the Vasari of SoaSE or Grineer of Warframe.
It's so fucking good. Has a lot of short stories and novellas in-universe too. One about a group that ascends an alien tower where you have to solve increasingly difficult mathematical problems and they modify their bodies in order to increase computation.
Best fucking tumblr blog right here
This guy does all his own art
Of course they would, but there might be other possibilities for FTL travel out there
Warp drives are just one of them
Any day now tier.
>>cold (or at least not sun-hot) fusion
>>reasonably easy terraforming
It's always 40 year away.
God only knows.
I am just listening to the Vasari OST right now.
God I fucking love SoaSE.
Vasari master race.
That or Space Trucker. My dream job is to haul goods from planet to planet, only stopping long enough for a xeno steak and soda pop before hitting the FTL lanes again.
>[Rampant (Dodai Shouji)] Otoko-tachi no Yamato 2929 (Space Battleship Yamato 2199) [anal, bodysuit, double penetration, glasses]
>Posted by LuminousSky in XXX > Hentai
>it will take a war to make the government interested into space
We already have CNT stuff, and its all awesome. Some company in Toronto makes tailored suits with a layer of that stuff in it, which lets it stop pretty much any handgun round up to .38 magnum.
FTL stuff might be possible, but we probably shouldn't use it. Just communicating faster then light can lead to all sorts of brainfuck stuff, like reversals of causality, which is like some serious Fate/Stay Night tier shit.
What jobs would you do when/if we become a space-faring race?
>Asteroid miner and prospector
>Interstellar truck driver
>Deep space explorer
>Kessler syndrome janitor
Exists, why the fuck aren't we using it yet?
Same thing, where the fuck are my space elevators?
Kek, it's used to sucker in people who don't know dick about science
Not outside the realm of possibility, but not within reach yet
Fuck no, that shit is going to be hard
Quantum entaglement, nigga
Could be possible, no way of knowing.
God fucking damnit I wanna be a space trucker.
I fucking would love that job.
A comfy small living quarters with nice furniture, set the coordinates and soar.
It would be so beautiful. I fucking hate not being born in time to be a space trucker. Just kill me now.
The Ancients had some sweet ships, but the human ones were also pretty cool
I dont know why we haven't made weaponized spacecraft yet. The US army's drone fetish should have pushed them to make some kind of attack satellite by now. Maybe something that drops tungsten telephone poles onto terrorism from orbit, blowing up everything in a two mile radius. Or maybe just a bunch of suicide satellites that can be de-orbited and slammed into terrorism bases.
>Fuck no, that shit is going to be hard
Resource and/or labor intensive. Which means that if we had the will to do it, we could start terraforming Mars this century.
Any upcoming space vidya worth being hype for? None of you fuckers better mention Start Citizen.
