Why aren't you playing Unreal Tournament right now?
>tfw winning your first UT Deathmatch ever.
I literally yelled at my screen from excitement.
I spent some time getting familiar with the editor last night.
Think I'll continue on today. I'd like to be able to learn the engine so I can help the project in some way
I do think it will be good. Honestly the best I can do at this stage would be making mutators. I hope the be able to do something more substantial soon.
I want to remake assault and other good maps. I wish more people on /v/ would think, "I'll make that map, weapon etc. instead of just complaining that it doesn't exist yet"
That game mode always reminds me of this 90s TV show. I miss 90s television and the great sets and technology porn.
How hard is the editor to use?
I've been wanting to recreate Halo maps
because this game really makes me think of Haloand I've wanted to start with Wizard, Rat Race and Chiron TL-34 because they seem like they would fit UT4's gameplay without many changes.
What other maps would fit you think? Maybe Boarding Action for a different style of map.
That isn't even a thing, niggy.
Alpha is a word meaning a running (snippet of a) program that still does not serve any proper purpose. Anything actually fully playable is a beta.
I have a question. I thought Michiel van den Bos was back on the soundtrack team. What the fuck happened? Where's the new soundtracks?
Why do people allways just say to play the old games? Everyone has allready played those games to death and the playerbases are close to dead. Northing wrong with making a new game so the community can expand
It looks this good already and its only in prealpha. Literally only 2 maps and 3 guns are finished at this point, and still subject to change.
Good to finally see a UT thread finally since its been public for so long now.
Well it's what it's officially called. Currently it's playable, though pretty buggy and lacking music, textures, game modes and whatnot. So by your definitions it would be late alpha or early beta.
He is and he said he would but music typically comes later and he has been busy with other projects. I recommend checking the community's music though some of it is amazing. The new main menu theme right now is community made.
As far as I know Alpha is used to denote the phase of a game where it is playable but not feature complete yet and Beta for the phase where it is feature complete and only bugs will be fixed and everything will be polished. Also the part where external testing will be done.
Yeah the main menu theme is pretty good. Still I don't get the schedule of these things
>announce you're making music for the game
>let it rest until the game is nearly complete
>return then to make the music
I guess I'm gonna have to play the original UT99 tracks in the background for the time being
>max all graphics settings
>looks like a fucking PS2 game with vaseline smeared all over my screen
The fuck is going on?
I dont play casual baby shit.
Because I haven't built my new PC yet, and it's still really early in alpha. At best I'd be playing the game and not really able to contribute much to its fixing and development, so I'll just wait and see how it shapes up.
I am excited for it though.
I'm playing the old one, not the butchered slow-ass new one. It's shit, just like every single video game past 2006.
I despise modern "games." Sixth gen or below, otherwise fuck off.
>Comparing fighting games to chess
This is why nobody can take the "FGC" seriously.
Turn off the damn AA. Come on scrub, either know how to live in the Master Race™ commons or get your ass back to the console shanty.
Yeah. Those are the ones that have spiffy new models so far, the community's still working on the rest.
I really like the new Flak, but I don't like how it's got Liandri badging instead of Trident.
They're alright, but some of them stray too far from the weapon's general appearance. If you compare the UT3 RL and Flak cannon, the only real difference is the color. Thankfully the Flak is back to its piston-driven former glory, and the RL concepts being tossed around look fucking excellent as well.
AMMO COUNTERS ARE BACK ON THE WEAPONS AND MY DICK IS HAPPY.
There was nothing wrong with UT3 other than the fact that no one had a computer that could run it at 100+fps like they could in quake. It was a very graphics intensive game for the times and with good reason. They had to sell that unreal engine. It's still a good looking game, even by today's standards. The only ones actually playing it are all Russians though and they've gotten so good at the game that's it's impossible to play with them. They just tear ass up and down.
forgot the screenshot.
Chess is actually a pretty shit game. It's not about making good decisions, or about anything related to a game. It's been boiled down to a science. You can only make good moves, or fucking retarded moves. We've boiled the game down to like three different paths.
Took us a few hundred years, but we got there.
>It's still a good looking game, even by today's standards.
It's too busy.
There's so many designs- weapons, characters, etc- that are overly visually noisy just for the sake of being noisy, and the entire game has an awful desaturated palette that just screams GEARS OF HURR when combined with the overflow of bald space marines in power armor.
>There was nothing wrong with UT3
Sure. When you exclude the maps, the shitty weapons that were changed for no reason, the shitty hoverboards, the god awful Gears art style that seeped its way into everything, the community (or lack thereof) and mod community (again, lack thereof).
What's weapon 2?
1 is the impact hammer, 3 is the bio rifle, 4 is the shock rifle, 5 is the link gun, 6 is the stinger minigun, 7 is the flak cannon and 8 is the rocket launcher.
Also where is the Enforcer?
You could play any mode you wanted. Why were you playing hover board maps? And yeah the game was versatile in it's breadth of game modes. There was a lot to do in the game from vehicles to air combat or base capture. It was a solid game and it still is. The new UT is largely just UT3B in case you haven't noticed.
>it's Unreal... The entire series was like that.
Unreal and UT99, like many games of that era, have relatively distinct artstyles where most things have a sleek, slightly stylized appearance. Technology simply hadn't advanced far enough to HAVE all these tiny details, so they worked with the limitations. Characters generally wore simple armor with large color patches for easy identification, maps had lots of one or two tone corridors and hallways and buildings.
2k4 was a bit overdone a points, I'll admit, but 2k4 went in a different direction, going for an ultrabright, obviously sci-fi future deathmatch sports spectacle instead of the gloomy, almost brooding atmosphere so common in UT99's various locales. Even then you still had relatively simple designs, still easily recognizable and defined despite the added detail possible on Unreal 2/2.5.
I really hope they try to stay with the clean uncluttered design, like Outpost 23 has, it still looks impressive while having the only details really be like on the walls or areas you can't reach during play.
>oh lawdy they stopped they stopped using 90's graphics in new games!
where to begin...
I hope DeckTest turns out to be 17, not 16. It already has 17's layout (the extra L corridor looping around behind the hallway Flak cannon), and Deck16 got an HD appearance in UT3. I wanna see 17's magma flows and smoke plumes on UE4.
>"I'll make that map, weapon etc. instead of just complaining that it doesn't exist yet"
This is what we call "broke nigga mentality"
it's why gaming sucks and why no one has a job either too.
Are you fucking lying to me?
You better not be fucking lying to me, and MISTER CROW better be in it along with this track https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmdWFQAD5ho, instagib, deck and morpheus.
Everyone knows Face (Facing Worlds), that's the CTF map with two bases across from each other on an asteroid. Notable for being sniper heaven, it's like UT's Dust in that it's been in every game in one form or another (sometimes multiple forms!).
Deck is a really well designed deathmatch map, easily identified by the three bridges that span the center of the map over a death pit. UT99 and UT3 have Deck 16, which is a sewage processing plant, and UT2004 has Deck 17, a magma and steel refinery that uses the same layout but adds one extra hallway that IMO helps the map flow better.
Morpheus is another wellknown map, three skyscrapers so tall they reach into outer orbit. Notable in that the exterior of the buildings is low grav with super jumps and shit, while inside the buildings, gravity acts like normal (this was HUGE at the time).
Google Liandri Archives; they've got pages for most every map in the series, especially the ones that show up in multiple games.
Instagib is already in as a mutator. Deck is in as DeckTest (D17 with 16's green goop), and yes, it plays Go Down in the background.
>all that documentation
I had a lot of fun playing around with UE3, but with this much documentation and even more user friendliness I might even consider joining a modding team or getting into 3d modelling again
for the sake of selling virtual hats for 5€ to retards.
Why is it that i'm always paired with people who are ether complete shit or so fucking skilled my k/d turns to garbage? Where are all the middle ground players at?
I can only hope they bring back the Volatile Weapon mutator.
>Play against tons of bots in a small map
>Instagib, volatile weapon, fatboy
>One death leads to huge chain reactions of computer stalling instagib carnage
I indeed did enjoy halo even though I found that to be far too slow, there was just something about it. All this zooming around twitch style shooting just isn't something that appeals to me since I have seriously slow reactions.
With a new Unreal on the way, do you think the possibility of a new Quake exist?
Ill take a guess and say that they are playing other games.
To be honest, i liked UT3 very much, even though it had plenty of flaws. Hell, id still play it, if the old server population was back...
Also, to the hick who talked shit about hoverboards... They are there for a reason - mobility (consider VCTF and Warfare(Onslaught) maps).
>They are there for a reason - mobility (consider VCTF and Warfare(Onslaught) maps).
You mean you never had one guy grab a Manta and then have the flagcarrier ride back on its wing fans?
because even fucking csgo is more fast-paced than this shit.
>god why is quake dead
id is owned by bethesda now, so no fun niche market shit is allowed
epic is its own privately held company and has no shareholder obligations or anything, so they can just dick around and make fun games as long as they want (and their money holds out, which given their success with GoW and engine licensing, will probably be a while)
if there is another quake dont expect it to be quake 5 arena. expect a vague rebooty continuation to quake 4
and his hand is still floating around the gun like it's magnetized and pushing away from the gun
I'm more of a fan of good animation than this high texture shit every game goes for.
2 games I recall blowing me away at the time they where released where Shadow of the Colossus and Demon's Souls
I understand it's hard to make his hand actually grab the gun but it just bugs me
textures are the easy part.
every game goes for the textures these days.
but I hope this means this is not a bullshot.
I did. Sometimes i was the flag carrier hitching a ride like that, sometimes i was the driver. Sometimes there would be two guys on both fans.
But most of the time that shit does not happen, and having to haul ass all the way to wherever you need to... man, hoverboard was a good thing.
No offense taken. How exactly is it more satisfying than any other game? say bf4?
I think he's the guy I've seen most play these types of games and honestly thought it was how the community as a whole played these games.
textures are pretty backburner since large textures use large amounts of memory which consoles still dont have to spare
also consoleplebs dont notice the difference between 512x512 and 4k textures unless its on the character model anyways
Majority of games these days go for poly count which is why everything suffers so much
It's a stupid metric for graphical fidelity and I fucking wish more devs would opt for better textures and clearer resolutions/framerates
I have literally never played an UT game due to just not giving a shit. What should I expect?
Most people obviously never played an arena shooter. I just played a match where nobody even tried to get the armour and just spammed the sniper like they were playing CS
use the server browser instead
I was playing just now.
I thought I was half-decent because I used to crush all my friends in ut2k4 back in the day.
I realised I completely suck, finished my first DM round with 0 kills.
I think I'll never play again, it hurt my pride.
how do I git gud?
Is it just me or is there a slight mouse latency in this game? I'm overshooting a lot in this game but when I alt-tab into 2k4 my aiming is smooth as butter.
I can't put my finger on it..
Are adrenaline abilities back? I got this 'Siphon' pop-up mid way through a monster kill. The announcer even... Announced it, same as when you could activate when you had 100 adrenaline in UT2004.
I should be in a place where I can meaningfully contribute to the project, but I'm not. I'm half dead inside, and feel reluctant to do much of anything for a few reasons, but the most pressing of which is I feel trapped and don't even want to be where I am. Why bother if I'm just going to drop everything and leave.
I've been artificially crippled for years and I'm at the end of my rope. Why bother with anything. It's dualistic, part of me is detached, part of me thinks "oh neat, it's fine that I don't contribute. I can just watch. I always, just, watch." Another part of me feels a void. And is left wanting and wondering where it all went so wrong and why I don't just die already. What could be so worth it to keep going.
Feels kind of bad. I had a "I've still it" moment when I went on some server and consistently kicked ass. Kind of shook the framework of my reality. Didn't know how to handle it. I'm used to be broken, faulty, whatever. Yet here I am, better than I was at the point in my memories that I truly was a better me.
I don't know. I'll just watch it develop. Oughta accept I probably won't ever develop any of the games I've more or less engineered down to the finest detail over years of thought. It's all there, but fuck it. It probably in reality isn't.
Ambivalent. Leaves a weird feeling. I don't feel right just being a user, I've wanted to make stuff since I was a very young child.
Sapphire HD 6870 1600SP
After 6 hours of googling + no replys on tomshardware i came to the conclusion that the motherboard simply doesn't like it because of the nvidia northbridge chipset and the PCIex16 1.0 slot simply hates 2.1.
i know it's not the system because it runs fine with some shitty GT 240 thrown in.
Where the hell do you think you are?
It's at 1804 revision, which some say is the final version of the 5001 beta, which is the last release.
It is a custom version bios though (the PC is a hand-me-down from a friend)
Oh btw the powersupply, it's only got 18A on dual 12V rails, would that cause any issue?
I could not help but notice your png was not optimized anon.
I have optimized your png.
Your png is now optimized.
Are you sure you have the latest BIOS? Seems like there is a 5002 revision, assuming I got the right model. That motherboard is almost 10 years old though...
The PSU should be fine.
My 970 wouldn't display anything on my monitor when I first got it, it was like it wasn't plugged in at all. A BIOS update and resetting all BIOS settings to their factory defaults fixed it. Your mobo might just be too old though, hard to say sorry.
I'm hoping it's just a shitty motherboard and not a DOA card.
My model is strictly the M2N, not the M2N32.
I'm going round to a
friendshouse tonight to test it in his system, i hope the outcome is that my PC is shit and the card works.
Thanks for your time though anon
>and his hand is still floating around the gun like it's magnetized and pushing away from the gun
i don't wanna be that guy
but it's fucking alpha
and there's literally only one map with new textures
Bummer. I still enjoy the base game but vehicle CTF type stuff is the only stuff I end up playing long term.
I'm sure some good mods/servers for it will float to the top eventually
i hope they will change eventually the rl model to something different than ut3 one
anyway game feels great already, for me, as a quake player I never could get through this barrier of having to do those dash double taps because after 2 hours of playing my fingers joints felt like dying, with this dash bind i can pk plebs just like in quake
>i hope they will change eventually the rl model to something different than ut3 one
All weapons except Enforcer, Flak Cannon and Shock Rifle are using the UT3 models, yes, but only as placeholders.
There's a 32bit client in the forums, haven't tried it but it's a 2 gig download.
No, I'm saying we're talking about Unreal and you're bringing up Quake-type games as if its relevant. Them both being arena shooters doesn't count for much if there really that much overlap between their fanbases due to their mechanics.
>How exactly is it more satisfying than any other game? say bf4?
>extremely varied weapons means many possibilities for kills in interesting situations
>high pace means kills are more rewarding
>the interplay between weapon handling and constant motion
It's the little things, you know.
Quake Live is shit Anon and has a tiny fraction of the amount of players who used to play Quake. Most people moved on to other games, the only people who remain are pros who pubstomp all day and complete newbies to the game.
shit's all online, what the fuck are you going to drop and leave from
Just play the game and have fun with it and then make something if you feel like it, if you don't then no worries, neither are most people who are playing it
vidya's suppoesd to be fun
Played for about 4 hours since yesterday, when I downloaded the game.
I have to say that I like it a lot. Not having double jumping or the jump dodging of UT was a bummer but the new wall dodging makes up for it. The game can be very fast.
The weapons are very fun although I don't like the rocket launcher's alt fire. The Rocket Launcher in ut2k4 was GOAT.
One thing that concerns me is the F2P model. What exactly am I missing on? Will I have to pay for extra character skins/gamemodes/etc?
