Do you guys think that 90's kids have better taste in vidya? Were they raised on better games and platforms?
I think people misunderstand what a 90s kid is.
A 90s kid is someone who grew up during the 90s, i.e. someone who was old enough to remember being a kid during the 90s. If you were 3 or 4 years old when the 90s ENDED, you are not a 90s kid.
I don't go around calling myself an 80s kid since I was born in '88 - I'm a 90s kid.
This, I was born in 1991 (albeit in early January) and I only really remember the second half of the decade - I don't really consider myself a "'90s kid", I wasn't even 10 when 2000 came around
90s is a trendy thing among teenagers right now so everyone wants to be part of the "90s generation" for some reason although there wasn't really anything too special about it apart from video games and some music
The 1990s didn't even have the best vidya, that was the first half of 2000 without a doubt. Countless great titles between 2000 and 2005, but you can only name the same few great games from the 1990s.
Bugs the shit outta me.
It reminds me of the feeling when you've liked a relatively unknown band for a long time, and then they suddenly get popular and out of nowhere all these assholes who've hardly listened to a single song are claiming to be huge fans because it's popular.
Sophie was a newborn when the N64 was released.
Maisie wasn't even born.
>there are people here right now that were not alive during the cold war
oh wait thats all of us
NOW THEY'RE TRYING TO STEAL MY ENTIRE FUCKING GENERATION! FUCK YOU CUNTS
They're not 90s kids unless they're being mid to late 80s. After that you're just a generic piece of shit millennial without the awesome distinction of experiencing the last great decade the world had, mainly 'Merica.
At least from a PC gamer's perspective the 90s were superb, tons of classic games and lots of whole new genres were created. With consoles the early 2000s might be better, but I think that the most definitive PC games, the kind of games that come first to my mind when I think of good PC games, were made in the 90s.
FUCK THIS PISSES ME OFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
FUCK YOU OP
I was born in 92 and I never considered myself a 90's kid since "90's kid" in usually talking in relation to pop culture at the time and you don't become aware of that till you are around 11-13 usually. Kids eat up whatever shits on their plate, they have no taste.
I always thought "90's kid" was faggots born in the 80's who grew up in the 90's.
I was born in 1994
I have a strong emotional connection to the years 1999-2007
That makes you a faggot. How does it feel to be human cancer?
83' here and I wouldn't have traded my childhood for a damn thing. It was great right up until about 2003 then things starting turning for the worst.
Nigger I watched that shit live on tv while eating breakfast. I remember that entire god damn day since it's seared in to my fucking memory and I can't get rid of it.
I'm pissed off right now. Pic related.
Born in '85 here, '92 has to be the absolute cutoff to be considered a 90's kid and even that is pushing it. the 90's stopped being the 90's in 97-98 anyway. At that point people were gearin up for 2000 with all the god damn ayy lmao aliums and wannabe sci bullshit everywhere. 96 is where the 90's stopped being the 90's
I was in grade 5, my teachers were trying to calm us down and explain the "situation" but nobody knew what the fuck they were talking about because it happened during class and there's no such thing as internet outside of the computer lab.
>there are people here RIGHT NOW that dont remember the sacking of rome
>he didn't graduate from pre-school the year fire was discovered
Fucking young people. How dare they be born after me. It's not like they can't choose what year their parents fuck.
The cold wars didn't end until the turn of the millennium
Christ that's a frightening thought.
I was still in college, though classes wouldn't start for another 2 weeks.
I was in high school for Oklahoma City and that was pretty shocking to see on TV. I could only imagine what it was like to be so young for something so much worse.
>There are people in this thread RIGHT NOW who don't remember the invention of the Phoenician Alphabet
>tfw born in 92
>tfw not a faggot "ninety's kid"
>tfw every person in the immediate 12 years my senior is in a literal meme generation.
So glad I am not a faggot 90's kid meme person.
I was old enough to play this on release. I am old enough.
Where did this sudden onset of 14-19 year old faggots screaming about being a 90's kid come from? These niggers weren't even alive when BatmanTAS was originally running. They don't even remember having to be huddled into the
Middle Schoolauditorium awaiting their parents to come pick them up because two retards in Colorado went 15-0.
86 here, all you cunts are making me feel old.
I grew up poor, never had a SNES or a 64. Instead I had a Mega Drive and an old 486 with a bunch of demos, I used to troll on ICQ and Napster before I knew trolling was a thing.
I never saw why 2D platformers became so popular, I never got into Sanic / Wonderboy / Alex the Kidd and they had shitty or non existent save system. As soon as I played Spyro however I was hooked.
The best JRPGs were on the SNES but overall the Ps2 was the best era for them. They've fallen so much lately, I always wanted to see them with really good graphics but most of them just seem lacking.
Doom / Quake / Duke were fun as fuck, I did enjoy Battlefield 3 too but I wouldn't rush out to get the yearly rehashes. I sort of prefer Military shooters over WW2 shooters but over all I'm not a big fan of shooters.
Stuff like AssCreed feels too easy, I like the way they look though I don't like their whole 900p bullshit.
Also feels like there is a lack of good adventure games, as I said I missed out on Nintendo so I'm playing Zelda OoT and I see why its popular as it is.
What does kid mean?
I was born in 89, missed the whole (S)NES thing, my first console was a N64 and a grey brick boy and I wouldnt consider myself a 90's kid since I only remember the last few years.
>my mother was there when the first plane hit
I remember how terrified my dad was when he heard about the first plane
Seeing the second plane hit on TV when will be burned into my brain forever
Depends where you live really, the 1990s were golden for America and Americans, but for most other people it wasn't as good as the 2000s. Especially the post-soviet nations, they are without a doubt infinitely better off than they were 20 years ago (reminder 1995 was 20 years ago)
I was borin in 89.
It's a weird in-between. I remember lots of 90s and 00s culture really vividly.
I'll never forget the first time I played Mortal Kombat 2 at a Pizza Hut.
I'd say the cutoff is the mid-60s. Otherwise your brain just wasn't fully developed enough to truly appreciate the dirty grunge faggots of the 90s & all around shitty clothing styles.
Little nigglets don't even know man, don't even know.
89er here and I experienced the great vidya, tv, movies of the 90s. By gar I miss those times. Playing pokemon through linkcable with your friends in the schoolyard, nickelodeon at its peak, beast wars, the greatest systems ever made
>Maisie Williams is exactly 10 years younger than me
I don't like this feel.
I doubt PC elitism even existed back then. It wasn't as accessible to children like it is now. Everyone who played video games didn't even care what you played on and the only ones that did were to poor to afford any system, they just bought into all that retarded advertising.
>there are people here RIGHT NOW who dont remember the alamo
I can't believe I'm stil doing nothing with my life.
Jesus fucking christ
I was born in 1990 and I barely remember the 90s. Most of my memories from that decade are from 98-99 and random school memories from when I was younger. That's it.
i doesn't matter what you consider yourself, be grateful that being a 90s kid is considered such a cool thing. there was some bad ass vidya back then and it wasn't as oversaturated as it is now with triple a games and sjw. all that bullshit. so if you experianced any part of it youre basically a 90s kid, 2000s kid. doesnt matter. youre pretty old if you were born in probably anything in the 90s by now
best year of vidya
best year to be born
>mfw fully sentient by 1990
>there are people RIGHT NOW who don't remember the S.S. Maine
To hell with Spain
>Were they raised on better games and platforms?
most likely yes
doesn't mean their taste hasn't degraded to playing stupid shit like LoL or whatever now though
not that they ever necessarily had it to begin with but they should have
My view, if you can be tried as an adult, you're an adult.
God knows I was
>a grandfather greentexting and mfw-ing
>an actual oldfag
Good to have you with us, Pops
>Any one who was born after 94 is not a 90 kid. Kids who are born after 85 but before 94 is a 90 kid.
1986 here. The early to mid nineties were the best time of my life. Somewhen in the late 90s and early 2000s puberty kicked in and I had the worst time of my life all of a sudden.
This seems like a good thread to place this. Don't touch it.
>mfw born in 95
>mfw I still could enjoy 90's cartoons and videogames because of my country
You have a shit memory. I was born June of 89.
>had Sega Genesis
>played SNES at friend's house
>watched MTV while they ran Beavis & Butthead, Daria, and music videos
>Rin & Stimpy, Aaahh Real Monsters, Angry Beavers, Cow & Chicken, Johnny Brave, I R Baboon, Dexter's Lab, Robotech, Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z, etc
>Casey's Top 40
>what the fuck is the internet?
Life got so much better in the mid 2000s
>I doubt PC elitism even existed back then.
Are you fucking mongoloid?
Of course it existed. We had the kids with pcs call the kids with sega and nintendo plebs and the kids with amiga call the pc and console kids plebs and everybody calling the amiga kid a fucking loser.
The 90s was a golden age for a lot of things, but not really vidya. Especially in the US, if you were a 90s kid living in the US that was their golden age. Their economy was sky high, gas was ass cheap, the NSA wasn't shoving their noses up everyones asses and the sand monkeys weren't that big of an issue.
It all went to shit in the 2000s when our economy died and everyone became paranoid because of the twin towers. BUT the early 2000s had some of the best games ever made, I guess theres a tradeoff between good vidya and turmoil. Still, the 90s had some great entries, and the PC market was making a real mark with all their entries, mostly RTS and FPS. I was born in 1992, I lived to experience the height of the 90s and I can safely say it was way better than the last decade and this one. It's not nostalgia, the world has just gone to shit. Maybe that's why the teens are clinging to the 90s because they realize how crappy everything became. Hopefully I'll experience another golden age in my lifetime.
>and everybody calling the amiga kid a fucking loser.
I was a kid in the 90s (born 89) and played mostly with the computer. Might be because I learned to read early and my dad was there to help me but I got the hang of installing games and playing even a bit more difficult games like WRPGs pretty fast. Even the CLI OS's were pretty easy to get a hang of. I also wasn't the only kid like that I knew.
But yeah PC elitism really only came in the later 90s I guess because that's when the PC really shone with its great exclusives which could actually use the superior hardware unlike modern games.
You just made this thread to make me dump this shit didn't you?
You only emphasize when you were born because your current life is horrible.
Quit living in the past fuccboi. Grow up.
>When will this 90s nostalgia end? I don't want to keep seeing it when it's 2030.
80s nostalgia didn't last that long. Took only roughly seven years.
I'm looking forward to 2000s nostalgia. Now that was a shitty and plain time. There was literally nothing interesting or good going on in the world.
90's kids shouldn't list kids who were born at the tail end of the decade, they didn't experience it enough to form a solid opinion. I was born in 82, and I don't consider myself an 80's kid(I hardly remember anything about the 80's). I certainly consider myself a 90's youth, because I grew up then, which shaped a lot of who I am now. If they were born in the 90's, they were 2000's and onward. Which in a way is just about as good, since the early to mid 2000's had some really amazing games.
TL;DR I doubt anyone born in a certain time period has better taste than another person.
What made the 90's so cool for vidya is because it was the wild west of 3D games. Devs had to experiment with what worked and what didn't. Which resulted in some amazing experiences. It's a polar opposite of today, where devs tend to stick with what works and we see hardly any gameplay innovation.
like I said: the only ones who flaunted what consoles they owned were too poor to have one. They always had all the best games and all the best systems that you never heard of. Basically, in my neighborhood, all the poor kids were "that kid"
>all these teenage girls talking about how great the 90s were
>literally 90% of things they occupy their time with today didn't exist
It wasn't as great as they'd like to think it was. encarta was not fun, dial up Internet was not fun, the mobile phones were literally just mobile telephones, information wasn't nearly as accessible and vhs tapes and vhs recorders were completely unreliable. The only porn I ever saw was either on the 10 minute free view on adult cable channels or huddled around my tallest friend who could reach the top shelf in the newsagent.
Yes, you stop thinking about how old you are after you hit 40. Your 30s is full of panic because you're transitioning out of being a young adult into a proper grown man and you're worrying about previous regrets, things you haven't accomplished, etc. It gets a lot easier in your 40s, you just start accepting life for what it is.
It had nothing to do with wealth you moron.
The sega kids were jelly of megaman x and the nintendo kids were jelly of sanic's attitude. The poorest kid in our class had actually a snes, a genesis AND his father owned a pc and let him play larry.
He was a divorce kid, so the parents tried to bribe him with toys to get him stay the time at their flat.
his favourite genre were jrpg lel, so he prefered to play snes.
>tfw you're a 90's kid
>tfw your gf was an 80's kid
>tfw you are the /ss/
>tfw jacking it to latino softcore porn on cable tv
Why can't boobies be that magical again.
>those poor fucking kids who's birthday fell on 9/11/2001
Probably the worst day to be born in quite a while.
Well, where I live in the early 90s were the biggest economical slump in a long time and the economy never really recovered (I don't live in Japan btw) so the general mindset is that the 90s were a very unpositive time. But on the other hand, the 9/11 wasn't that big of a deal because it happened in America and America is far away. Early 2000s was positivity and economical growth.
But I still think that the 90s were the best era for gaming simply because of the innovation. Lots of new genres, early 3D games and lots of great classics like Doom, Looking Glass Studios, Ultima etc... Tons of innovation and general excitement everywhere. Especially the WRPG's peak is in the 90s. But again, this is a PC gamer's perspective.
Doom, Command and Conquer, Starcraft, The Sims(came out in Feb 2000 but I still count it as 90s), Warcraft, Myst, Diablo, Age of Empires, Populous, Theme games.
A lot of good entries for the PC, I was 8 years old by 2000 and I played a lot of those games by that period. Good thing I had parents who funded my interest in computers.
Secret Dream Door.
Far out man.
>look up music video from 2003 on youtube
>see comments posted by a bunch of teenagers talking about it being the first music video they saw as babies
To be honest, it was pretty fucking cool, but for other reasons than those millenial bitches think it was.
One of the main reasons why the internet was awesome was because there was no social media and normalfags still stayed offline. This whole web 2.0 bullshit vanity circus ruined the internet for good.
>he never put a hardcore porn VHS on slow-mo so many times the player eventually ate it, then had to tape it back together and still fap to incredibly fuzzy penetration shots that weren't even that good
90's porn was the fucking worst.
Can't years only get better? Just because something is from a previous year doesn't mean that it doesn't count this year.
The only way I can think of a previous year being better is if some games were more relevant.
Kids born in the late 90's/2000's grew up in the age of online gaming, cut content being sold as DLC, season passes & day one DLC being the norm. They have the shittiest fucking opinions regarding anything.
In Canada i got home from school totally oblivious to what was going on and my mother had the news footage of the people jumping out of the windows on television. They never said anything about it at school here. I think they might have sent us home early? I can't 100% remember to be honest.
I was born in 85. What I enjoy most about my experience growing up is I felt like I got to witness the huge shift in technology. I still wish I was born a few years earlier to see it more fully but I remember starting off doing everything the 'old' way before technology (typewriters, libraries, etc.). I also got to enjoy the constant upgrades of video games from NES to n64 which was incredible to live through.
I jacked to anything that had a slight resemblance to tits.
I even masturbated to the iron maidens in quake 2. We only got internet in 1998. That was the first time I saw a vagina, so naturally I printed out a stack of 20 hardcore pornographic images with the desk jet in my dad's home office and gave them to all the kids in my class.
One boy started retching when he saw a vagina for the first time in his life.
>tfw people don't know what you mean by BOTH WTC attacks
It's weird that I actually remember it happened in 93. I was 11, so it didn't really register how crazy it was until 9/11 when they actually succeeded in pulling off what they tried to pull off back then.
I was 7 when it went down, I lived in a small town in alberta, canada.
I remember all the schools closed early, and just about every place of business in town closed for the day to go home and watch the news. I wasn't really old enough to understand what was going on, but my parents wouldn't let me leave the house and ride my bike in the neighborhood for some reason. This confused me, as I was outside quite often by myself, but I played starfox 64 in my older sisters room while my parents and sisters crowded around the tv in the basement, because it was the only one in the house with cable.
>Still have no fucking Idea how to euthanize that fucking bear
T-thanks anyways anon.
I live in Denmark and I was 10 at the time I don't remember what the teachers said, I can't even remember if it was every teacher that day or just one, because I know I remember that one of them talked about it and made us do a minute of silence or something, can't remember any other classes from that day.
I feel sorry for Americans for whom the early 2000s were a period of severe cultural angst, they were way fucking awesome over here.
the only reason this happens is because "90s kids" are so fucking hostile to 2000s kids
there is nothing wrong with being a 2000s kid, from 2000-2005 it was pretty much just a continuation of the 90s.
the only thing that you're right about is vidya and the economy, but even then, the 90s had the dotcom bubble.
Also, P.S., there were still a lot of wars in mudslime countries, although of course it was just a prelude to what was to come.
>It's not nostalgia, the world has just gone to shit you're comparing a decade that you spent the majority of your childhood in to a decade that you spent most of your angsty teen years in, and now you're in a decade where you're pretty much an adult.
if you ask any old person, they'll say the best decade was when they were kids. It is nostalgia buddy
>Maybe that's why the teens are clinging to the 90s because they realize how crappy everything became
no, 90s kids are just the first of the facebook/myspace generation to get old
>video games will never be as good as they were in the 90s and early 2000s
why are we still here? just to suffer?
you feel it too don't you?
when are you gonna make them give back our past /v/?
I know that feel.
>tfw she's pregnant
My mom is going to be so dissapointed, they're almost the same age.
woops, fucked up the formatting there
>It's not nostalgia, the world has just gone to shit
you're comparing a decade that you spent the majority of your childhood in to a decade that you spent most of your angsty teen years in, and now you're in a decade where you're pretty much an adult.
A lot about your life changes between 18 and 28. The same as between 8 and 18. It slows down a bit around the late 20's and early 30's, but honestly, yeah, if you recall making this statement in 10 years you'll probably kick yourself for being such a brat.
I'm just glad they had to use film to record it back then, so it could at least be restored and run at higher resolutions after being re-released on DVD. Going back and watching your favorite porn clips from the late '90s and early 2000s only to realize they were all filmed with cheap digital cameras with 640x480 resolution frames and audio that sounds like it was recorded in a womb is horrific.
is this just a thinly veiled sophie thread?
>there is nothing wrong with being a 2000s kid, from 2000-2005 it was pretty much just a continuation of the 90s.
Things started to get shit right about when my puberty started in 1998.
So we can count 1998 to the 2000s already.
So the 2000s ended in 2008 and the 80s in 88.
Does that work for you?
Then I have the pic for you!
honestly though, i'm kind of envious
I had access to the Interwebs in '94, and it was a pretty good time. There were MUDs, a huge percentage of the people you'd interact with were either interested in programming or physical sciences, and AOL hadn't quite connected their sewage pipe back then. Usenet was loaded with porn if that was your thing, but porn gets boring pretty quickly.
I honestly thought that you were making an ironic youtube comment, then I realized you were being serious
if you couldn't tell, you sound just like those fags that say "PLEASE GOD KILL JUSTIN BIEBER AND GIVE US BACK JOHN LENNON
The 90's only felt like the golden age because you weren't an adult yet, therefore little to no responsibilities.
Sure the world has gone into shit since the 90's, but ask your parents if they cherish their childhood more than their adulthood. Most would probably say yes.
I was on vacation in Hawaii with my parents for a relative's wedding. I was young so I figured "shit like that happens all the time probably" (mentality my parents gave me), didn't realize until way later what it all really meant. I was just happy at the time to stay an extra week since the airports were closed.
Pretty much this. Usually if you were born between 87 and 92 you can call yourself a 90's kid. You're not a 90's kid unless you were able to have fond memories of that decade. So you gotta at least have been 8 by the time the turn of the century happened.
It's weird that some of the 90's porn I watched(and subsequently found online later) is still fappable for me. Porn shooting now is a lot more about seeing everything, whereas back then they didn't do as much of that. You were lucky to see your favorite position without some guy's face popping into the frame for 15 seconds ruining the experience.
But also, I don't know, some HD porn really bothers me with the color saturation and fish-eye lens horseshit.
But, yeah, try finding a good re-rip of early 2000's porn and you're fucked.
