Why is PS2 emulation still so horrible, when Dolphin is nearly perfect?
The fuck you smoking? I was playing it last night and it never crashed once.
I don't get why people think PS2 emulation is so bad.
I've been playing games on PCSX2 for years, and the worst thing that's happened yet was Spiderman 2 acting up, but even then that game is a bitch to emulate.
>I don't get why people think PS2 emulation is so bad.
I'll give you a hint
Name some that don't emulate well in dolphin then.
pcsx2 is literally N64 tier bad
Seriously though. What am I looking for?
Also has PCSX even been updated since 2009? All the builds I find on their website just seems to be fixes and updates to the emulation cores, not to accuracy.
Well I played a ton of games with the latest build. I literally can't even find a texture error.
truth: No one wants to buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games, so the emulators are worked on harder. The same community behind the emulators at the same time are dedicated Nintendo fans that dont want to give up on their favorite shit. The playstation community and Xbox community are far less dedicated, Xbox moreso (too many retarded dudebros) but you get my point. It took 10 years for EPSXE to be a decent emulator, just imagine how long until we get a working PS3 emulator.
Listen here bub. I'm not looking for 100% accuracy. I would just like an emulator that doesn't have random as fuck texture glitches like PS2. Let me not forget to mention how most of the PS2 library is unplayable on PCSX2 due simply to the fact the grafic plugin has fucking interlacing built in that you can only remove by making the screen jitter or smearing vaseline on the image.
Seriously. I'm testing these games the anons posted. Why not post some proof of your own?
Make a better emulator then. There's fucking free emulators, given to you so you fucks can play your kid games and yet you bitch and moan. Jesus fuck.
Entitled little shits.
>people are immune to all critique if they do stuff for free
>tfw no Conker Live and Reloaded
At least Strangers Wrath got ported.
You're not critiquing, the way you show your points comes out like bitching
>My god guys, this is literally worse than n64, oh my gawd why is it so bad
And the replies to people pointing out flaws
>Oh really? Well I dont see anything, Im eveng oing to post a tonf of screenshots because if it's not happening to me it can't be real. Like, oh my god, you're sooo daft
Be more objective and less like a snarky fuck. It feels like you're trying too hard to fit in.
Also I tried to emulate Monster Hunter Tri, Wind Waker and F-Zero and they all crashed every 12 minutes. It probably depends on the hardware.
Try not having a toaster. Perhaps then you can actually be objective about all these.
I have no issues with framerate, or speed in either emulator, but PCSX2 is just so shit and ripe full of render issues, texture errors, overlay corruption. It's just full silly.
Seriously Dolphin is pretty top tier for what it is. It's almost as good as ePSXe with Pete's OpenGL2 driver.
Sorry if I'm not a broke ass nigga like you, I don't used speed hacks for any of these so accuracy should be good, but it's not.
PCSX2 core is great, almost everything runs great in software mode
Problem is GSDX, Gabest designed it poorly from the get go & didn't bother to fix it, also his code is a mess & no one wants to clean it up
Best bet is for someone to make a new Graphics plugin for PCSX2, maybe one day
That actually makes perfect sense. Shame that software emulation has a garbage resolution.
I'm actually just gonna go look for alternative graphic pluggins for it now. Seriously speed is NOT an issue with my PC.
You what, nigger?
I played MGS2+3 and Persona 4 on PCSX2 with absolutely no problems and both of them looking gorgeous.
The better question is, Why is PS1 emulation still dogshit, when PS2 emulation is nearly perfect?
Trying to get Ape Escape to work properly is hell.
I'm curious about your settings. I can't get Persona 4 to look like anything other than dogshit while in the real world. There is like the glaze of shit over everything causing serious ghosting issues
Seriously. How fix?
None of it worked. What now fags?
Apparently the ghosting is "working as intended"
Dolphin isn't perfect. PPSSPP is perfect.
It's not an interlacing issue you dumb cunt. It's only visable when anything is moving because it's causing an after image to be left behind.
Do you know what ghosting means?
>pcsx2 is perfect they said
I sure do like this drunk filter in P4
Only issues I've seen with emulated PS2 games were these:
- Shadows only appear in software mode, important for one small part of the game
>Super Robot Wars Z
- Cutscenes flicker unless you're in software mode
- Pilot portraits are transparent if you're running the emulator with DX11 instead of DX9
I don't emulate a ton of games but I really haven't had any major issues
Or. maybe you didn't notice it because it only happens in the real world and not the TV world?
Seriously. Go try it for yourself. I have tried this almost bi monthly hoping that each new pcsx build I download would be the one to fix it.
It's only noticeable when moving.
One of the main devs left the team (IIRC, I think he came back, though?) and the whole project needs to be rewritten before it can really progress which requires a lot of work for people who aren't really contributing so why not just continue to build on a pile of shit?
Post your settings then and I'll test it. I've got this same issue on 3 different computers.
It probably is a setting on my end due to the fact that I can notice it and you're a blind person.
Gamecube and Wii have fairly basic hardware. Its pretty similar to a PC (minus the DSP audio chip). The PS2 is a completely different best with a crazy hardware setup that is not even close to anything else on the market. The Emotion Engine behaves much different from the Gamecube's PowerPC CPU.
I wasn't aware there were shills for PCSX2 til I saw this thread.
Jesus christ, why would you defend it by saying it's perfect when it's clearly not?
Played it a year or two ago. Don't have it on my computer anymore.
Settings depend on your hardware.
I am also not a tech savvy person. I just never had that problem to begin with and thus didn't need to fix anything.
Just start ticking/unticking boxes.
>I refuse to believe you didn't have this problem. Clearly you just didn't notice.
fuck you too eh buddy, have fun with your videogame you shoddy god fucking cuntknuckle
>Only perfect emulator atm is visualboyadvance
Not even close?
VisualBoyAdvance hasn't been updated in years and VBA-M still has issues with a few games here or there.
bSNES is probably the only emulator close to perfect, and even then it's hidden behind a retarded interface and game folders.
Did you turn on the VU Clip Flag Hack?
It's not only a matter of settings, it also depends on your hardware. No matter how powerful your rig is, it might not be compatible for emulating PS2.
Because for some people, noticeable graphic, sound, and performance issues are still "good enough" to be played. So therefore, it must be perfect.
I don't agree with that sentiment, but I understand what they're saying. I think there needs to be terms for emulation that looks perfect, emulation that's "good enough", and actual, perfect emulation. Too many people say shit is perfect when there's clearly problems or it's not technically perfect.
First thing I tried
I download it fresh for each computer. Fuck with the settings for all. None of them have the same settings, don't even have the same pluggins
Well I've never had an issue with framerate on this one I'm running now. I'd just like to get a proper image for once.
I've tried software, hardware, no scaling, toggled every fucking checkbox.
It's still there.
I want someone to test this shit out too so I know it's not just me. Take a screenshot of you in this same classrom with the camera turning and you'll see it too.
>there are people that still use ZSNES,ePSXe and No$gba in December 2014
Why is this allowed
I forget which hotkey it is, but cycle the different deinterlacing settings, PCSX2 doesn't have any sort of REAL vsync to speak of, so you have to find a specific mode for a specific game unfortunately, and it looks like you have the one that does interframe blurring
>/a/-tier memes again
Hell no. BSNES comes the closest but even it's not because it only....copies cycles instead of some other shit, because if you tried to perfectly emulate that other shit, it would be far too resource intensive and so no emulator (or very few) has done it.
I read about it on wikipedia or something.
Hasn't that always been their shitty excuse though? No major games run well on the thing, audio issues up the ass, and they always squawk about CPU cycles and all this shit.
Only emulator where you're better off just buying the fucking console.
>you'll need moar cores for that
I've toggled them all. Hell the last screenshot I posted it's completely off
It perfectly matches cycles or whatever. There's an alternative, more accurate version of emulation that nobody will ever try because its too resource intensive.
I read about it on wikipedia or something.
>There's no known glitches in any commercially released game.
>The playstation community and Xbox community are far less dedicated, Xbox moreso (too many retarded dudebros)
It doesn't help that the Xbox is a nightmare to reverse engineer.
I've had the exact opposite experiences on my shittier PCs. Some of the light-weight PS2 games will run fine, but anything else is like -5 fps. Dolphin runs pretty respectably regardless of the computer I have it on, though.
You're using google wrong. I wouldn't be surprised if the Dreamcast was stronger than the PS2.
Dolphin has gotten a hell of a lot faster since their assembly wizard joined two months ago.
>tfw running a game perfectly on dolphin that used to run like absolute dogshit in older versions
So what I can gather from this thread is
>If you got an AMD cpu, PCSX2 works great with no texture errors like in OP image but dolphin is unplayable
>if you got an intel cpu, dolphin is solid with no texture or major errors, but PCSX2 will look like total shit like in OP
Is this correct?
>people who buy AMD CPUs to emulate
No,AMD is shit regardless of what emulator you are using.
Yeah, no. Intel has objectively better IPC so it runs nearly every emulator better than AMD. There's usually benchmark threads on emulator forums if you wanna see how much better Intel CPUs are than AMD for stuff like that.
No, AMD is shit either way. Or, at least, shittier. PCSX2 has serious issues with the graphics plugin and hasn't made any major progress in compatibility or accuracy in months, if not years.
Dolphin is at least progressing, albeit, it's still not perfect, but is on a much better track than PCSX2.
Seriously though. Speed isn't an issue for me since I can run both of these at 60fps at the same time.
PCSX2 is still shit tier though.
>an emulator's quality is represented b y how good it can run on my shitty hardware
No, that's like saying Battlefield is a bad game because your hardware is shit and not because it's a shittily designed, overdone generic military shooter.
Ps2 uses a custom Japanese made graphics chip not 100% understood by hackers.
The GC and WII use ATI grafics chips making it easier to map and emulate because its esencialy similar to other older ATI GPUs.
Emulation and USB loading are not the same thing fagot.
Since this is an emulation thread, I might as well ask.
The only Nintendo console I've ever owned was the NES (and the GBC, if you can count that). I've never played any N64 games, never played any SNES games, never played any Wii games. I've never touched a Zelda game outside of the first one, never played a Metroid game.
I've had a PC from a very young age and just never bothered with consoles apart from NES and PS2.
What would you recommend me to play? What have I missed? Has my childhood suffered?
does mednafen run tron bonne without freezing? does mednafen run a particular japanese title called neorude (it's nothing special but XEBRA's the only emulator that runs it)
if mednafen can do these things then mednafen is runing the xebra core
Pic any Zelda or any Metrid game from any system and you are gonna have fun.
How man you play depends on how much you can tolerate retro grafics.
Its usually best to alternate.
Play one 2d Zelda than play one 3d Zelda and than one GB Zelda.
Same whit meteoroid.
Zsnes is used for SNES games.
Visual boy advance is used for GB and GBA games.
Don't play the first meteoroid you have a better remake on the GBA.
>Zsnes is used for SNES games.
Stop, this isn't the 90s.
>Visual boy advance is used for GB and GBA games.
We have literally perfect SNES emulation now if you use bsnes but if you've got a toaster use Snes9x. ZSNES is an ancient, shitty emulator from the 90s that has no reason to exist anymore.
So...we all agree PCSX2 is shit and needs to be updated?
>Zsnes is used for SNES games.
>needs to be updated
How? Gabest doesn't work on gsdx anymore and the codebase is a complete fucking mess. There hasn't been any improvement in the emulator in months because they have no idea what anything does anymore.
the obscurity of a title doesn't matter, the complexity of its engine does
for example, PS2 emulation still can't work with ratchet & clank or jak & daxter. Everything comes out looking like zalgo
>playing games natively is more accurate than emulation
WOAH NO FUCKING WAY
>those black eyes on everyone in Jak and Daxter
>the obscurity of a title doesn't matter
It depends, some titles require certain fixes to work as they should.I can agree that the complexity of the game has a big part in it,i remember having some slowdown while playing Front Mission 3 with Mednafen on my old PC due to one distortion effect being very CPU heavy.
Go for it.
It wasn't a bait thread. I wanted to play Klonoa 2..but the graphical issues along with the lack of sound effects just made it so I couldn't play.
Zelda: Play 1, 2, and Link's Awakening.
Metroid: Play Super Metroid and Zero Mission.
The rest are irrelevant.
>go to PCSX2 wiki to see compatibility of games
>all these fucking games that actually have a shit ton of errors and missing audio labled as green
>"cannot load past level 2 due to issue" "perfectly playable though"
>want to play the only sandbox of 6th gen that mattered
>no hardware mode
Why even bother?
>MFW I would gladly buy great PS2 games if they just released them on PSN
>mfw Sony will never ever release a PS2 emulator for PS4
>there is a catagory for "playable with issues" yellow
>this shit still counts as green
>mfw when people are too poor to afford a PS2
What I love with PPSSPP is how easy it makes modding for Dissidia Duodecim.
>Game of games in the ps2 can't be emulated
why even bother?
It's nice to be able to play all your games on one machine. I have a HTPC in my livingroom and have almost 1400 PS1 iso's on there. I have a PS1, a PS2 and a PS3 but having all the games on that one machine along with thousands of games from other systems and PC games too makes it a better option for me.
dolphin actually has a competent bunch of developers that are striving for accurate emulation.
>yfw there will never be a team like this for any other emulator and every other emulator will be shit forever.
Be glad that the wii emulates other systems because you'll find better emulators on there than on majority of other current developed emus.
>Why is PS2 emulation still so horrible
Works fine for me.
what's a good n64 emulator that runs Ogre Battle 64 well, without the black background bugs in towns and battles?
>tfw i have a PS2 but can't find swap magic anywhere
A real N64 is not an emulator, you colossal faggot.
Get an aftermarket cooler and OC your CPU heavily and you'll still be able to get good FPS in intensive PCSX2 and Dolphin games.
Maybe not for the most intensive like Shadow of the Colossus though.
Pretty much any console before the 5th gen has a good emulator. PSX is fine, and Gamecube is decent as well. We need a better DS, PS2, Saturn, and N64 emulator. We also need an Xbox emu period.
Paper Mario TTYD's issues have been fixed in the past few months.
Luigi's Mansion's issues have been fixed in the past few months.
F-Zero GX now runs like 50% faster than a year ago.
I've no idea if your CPU is good enough for those games.
Still, the $60 G3258 is the best budget CPU you can get if you want good performance on emulators.
Just stick with the fx 6300 and OC in the future if you need to.
not same poster but i zsnesw was the first snes emulator i used when i was first new to emulation a long time ago and ive stuck with it, haven't had any problems at all, why is it so disliked? am i missing out on something by using it?
It was great at the time, but pretty much every other emulator has surpassed it. Also, back then a lot of people didn't have the cpu for something cycle-accurate like bsnes since it required a core 2 duo which was cutting edge, but now that's ancient history.
I got kinda opposite, sound effects are working but no BGM.
Also, no graphical glitches whatsoever
>asking for help while insulting the people who attempt to help you
bSNES isn't perfect either. It emulates the cycles, which is great an all, but while there's no known "glitches", there's a fuckton of slowdown in most games.
The ONLY perfect emulator is DICE.
