It could go either way, but I'm remaining positive surprisingly. They dedicated a whole animated short to their relationship, it's obvious they want to explore their relationship further (since they're marketed as the main hero and rival respectively) and Tracer might play a part in her redemption.

Emily won't last long in this universe, and the fact that her name is so similar to Amélie's isn't a coincidence. People acting like the ship is sunk forever because Tracer has a girlfriend NOW really haven't suffered through worse in the past.

Unfortunately, humans are boring. Humanising is pretty boring. Blizz tried to do that themselves (with Widow brooding over a grave) but as everything they do it sucks. It's one of the reasons why I like Widow so much, and also get irritated when some of the fandom try to write Tracer as some limp-dicked heroine who collapses in on herself when faced with death. To be fair, from what we've seen in Alive, she is self-aware, unlike fighting dogs. Whether she can fight Talon's conditioning or she just rolls with it is unclear, but her smugness about killing doesn't seem to be something that Talon had instilled in her. It can be a by-product of having an endorphin rush after killing someone, though, it's hard to say.

We know from the holiday comic she has enough autonomy to wander around graveyard so maybe she still has some personal life (unless it was just some kind of Xmas reward for her and her handler was nearby or something).

Widowmaker being this cold, emotionless assassin that only feels some semblance of being alive when she's killing stuff, but also has memories of her past that may or may not actually be affecting her emotions which may or may not exist, but is also otherwise 100% loyal to Talon?

That's fine for a comic book, Metal Gear, some other weird sci-fi military game? Sure, why not?

A multiplayer shooter? Maybe if it was COD Blops.

OW is just wildly all over the place in tone. So you want your emotionless brainwashed assassin who's biologically the perfect sniper? But she also has some shit about being afraid of spiders and reacts with hostility when Ana implies her and Gerard's relationship wasn't genuine, and visits his grave on Christmas? And will laugh in Tracer's face because she can't comprehend someone with Widowmaker's nebulous motives? And you want her to have some more mundane interactions with Tracer and her Talon colleagues?

I can accept characters not being at each other's throats constantly so that they can go stand in a circle in China together for whatever reason.

But at least be somewhat consistent with the character you want to portray. Soldier 76 was the noble heroic face of OW, turned into a slightly unhinged vigilante, but who still has a bit of the field commander who cares for the innocent and the people under his command inside him.

That's an easier character to write than Widowmaker, but they at least know how they want to reconcile the various aspects of the character with the strange incongruities of the game. He'll needle Reaper, reminisce with Ana, snarl triumphantly when he's on fire, and will give advice to the younger characters in the cast like Tracer or D.Va.

But we're too far into the game. Now it's just time to sell lootboxes. Get your dancing ballerinas and shit.

Based on Pharah's interactions with others when talking about her mother, you could tell there's a bit of issues going on between them (such as knowing whether or not Ana wanted to have Pharah join Overwatch eventually, or how Ana would have felt about Pharah trying to follow in her footsteps).

Yet when the two actually talk, it's moreorless sunshines and rainbows between the two. At most, Pharah understands why Ana didn't want her to join Overwatch or to fight, but wants to do it anyway.

Not that anon, but for fuck's sake, it's been discussed several times already. They are not canon in a sense that characters aren't actually saying them, but they are canon in a sense that they reflect characters' feelings towards other characters and situations. For example, according to voicelines, it's canon that Tracer is a tsundere towards Widow but has a strong dislike towards Sombra. Reinhardt and Ana share a close bond of mutual respect, Pharah idolizes ex-Overwatch agents, Hanzo thinks shooting little brothers in the head is a-okay. Tech support doesn't like midgets and D.Va's taste in music is questionable at best.

That said, there are glaring inconsistencies. Pharah sounding bitter when talking about Ana to other characters but being chummy when talking to Ana is probably the most noticeable example of this.

Using them as a basis of what facts the characters know or not know about each other is wonky (ie McCree acts like he knows who Reaper's identity is even though in canon only Ana and Soldier know as of yet). But whatever they say towards each other is representative of what the characters feel canonically. ie if Tracer were to met Sombra in canon she would be hostile towards her like she is in game.

Dunno. To me, it looks a bit odd. Like it was supposed to imitate a cartoon. Honestly, remove text bubbles from every page and it's just a bunch of screenshots from an animated short.
Which, I guess, is in line with their recent Doomfist animu, but I just don't think stills from anything animated look appealing. I think in this case it's a combination of linework, typical cartoony coloring with mostly flat colors and lazy backgrounds.

Reinhardt's and Pharah's comics actually look like comics. Same as McCree's and Ana's, although I don't particularly enjoy that art style; it looks too much like anything done by any major comic studio in the West.
Symmetra's is tumblr-tier.
Torb's and best duo's look fine, if a bit too detailed. In certain panels characters look like they've been traced off an SFM model.
Tracer's are meh.

The only other short to have this cartoony feel to it is Bastion's, with all of its clean, bright colors and stuff, and even then to a lesser extent.

I don't know. It just doesn't look good to me. Doesn't look bad, either, just kind of middling and not worth remembering.

She still likes to dress herself up and shows interest in gambling instead of standing around waiting for something to happen. She also doesn't hesitate to throw down when it's called for. In Inflitration you literally see her close the comm only after Reaper starts questioning what is she doing after she already spoke to Katya.
Even assuming it only transmits sounds when the wearer wishes to and he didn't hear her greet Katya she still didn't respond to his calls and was doing something suspicious.
Also Widow has a visor that lets her see through walls and even if it's not explicitly shown she did see Sombra going rogue, it's implied by her facial expressions she knows something is up.
