I just finished the final episode of the dub and they made it even gayer than the original. During the scene where Mirei is freeing Mamori from inside her arm form Mirei calls Mamori "my love" and says she'll get them out "with our love" instead of just "with the two of us together".

In my experience, anime in general tends to avoid having proper, actual love declarations regardless the genre or the relationship. Or at least not in the way the west tend to expect them.

They tend to let actions be more important than words and thus, Mirei and Mamori's relationship is portrayed pretty well, especially by the time the series ends.
