The manga is pretty good. It gets a little drawn out and is fairly average as far as yuri goes, but still 100% worth reading.
Don't bother with the anime.

Yes, but read the manga.
I really like the manga even if it's drawn out as fuck.
One thing about the licensed english release though.
It feels like they put as low effort into the editing as possible. You will at least find one grammatical error on every page if not more on some...

Don't play into a few loud idiots' attempt to turn Octave into something controversial, please.

This. The anime aired in 2009, but the manga didn't end until 2011. Because of that, the anime's ending is ambiguous to the point of frustration. The manga lags in places, but it's definitely worth a read.

Totally worth it. You can watch the anime and pick up with the manga where it left off or just read the manga,. Either way, the pacing is jacked, but Kazama is like, top 5 character in fiction for me.
The manga is worth reading. It's properly a gachi yuri romance manga and notably one of the tiny number that's more than a few volumes long.
The anime only covered 2 out of 9 volumes of the manga (5 were out by the time the anime started). It did 1 chapter as 1 episode (+ an anime original episode). The manga chapters were fairly packed, but they weren't really an episode's worth of material each and the adaptation didn't do much to try to add to them, it just padded out time. While it was superficially faithful to what the mangaka wrote, the slow direction was at odds with the tone the manga had.
