Shallie was kind of yuri if your goggles were strong enough and it seems like Sophie and Plachta have subtext in the newest game. There's apparently no het in Sophie either.

From what I can gather, there should be enough for yuri fans to pair these two together but non-yuri fans will say they're "just friends". So not as obvious as TotoMimi in Meruru but gayer than the Dusk games.

I don't know how well E&L did but it did get an anime.

What, actually, can I do in these games, besides the gameplay (I see some combat)? What kind of character interaction does this feature? Fixed events and dialog?

Besides RPG combat the games involve item crafting (alchemy) and time and resource management. E.g. you go to a certain place in a certain time to find a certain ingredient and get home before it goes bad, make a thing that you got an order for before the deadline. Dialog events trigger when certain conditions are met. The games are kinda SoL-ey and not very linear.

As long as it's not fake hard like the hardest boss of Escha to Logy. If you lose, you have to go through the dungeon again AND beat the 1m HP or so damage sponge before it, which is easy, but takes time. Add to that that the boss is a simply "damage rush before he acts" thing with a couple of "counters" that activate once he hits a certain HP, it was just shit. You essentially had to fight him several times until you know all the counters. Which again is annoying, as you have to waste like 15 minutes or so of time before you even CAN refight. God, that game was really not good.
That said, most Atelier games have super-bosses that are relatively hard. Totori+ was pretty nice as far as I remember. Well, it's generally still my favorite of the series. (as much as I hated the true ending)

"Physical" during fighting means shit. Most tsunderes are the more violent one in a pairing and regularly abuse their love interest. And if you pay attention to to haremshit at all, many of it has the girls being better fighter than the beta faggot protag who will dom them anyway.

So no, I based my impression on these two purely through their actual characteristics and interactions. Totori's easy confidence and calmness is of the domesticated variety rather than the badass one. Whereas Mimi, despite all of her spaghetti, is surprisingly very assertive, and is the one working harder on pushing her relationship with Totori forward (rainbow stone, anyone?). She's desperate about wanting Totori to look up to her with starry eyes, whereas Totori doesn't mind squealing at her if she succeeds in doing something cool. All of this is why I can't see Mimi being happy if she's not the one who does some kind of grand gestures/moves to impress her lady.

Not really. Mimi is badass but whenever Totori is around she is like putty. She's the type of tsundere that tries to play it of cool but collapses when she's close to Totori. Totori is actually the more assertive one because she is actively trying to get closer to her. When they had a brief fight on the second game, it was Totori who actually tried to apologize while Mimi kept her distance to avoid conflict.

Then most of her events in the third game is the Mimi trying to belt out her feelings but can't because of her pride. The rainbow stone event would never happen if Meruru didn't push her, and she only found that out when Mimi accidentally drugged herself with a truth serum.

I usually like this artist but I'm really disappointed with this. It's way too early to pair these two. If I knew Japanese I'd tell them this directly but unfortunately I can't. I don't get why so many people think Totori and Mimi are the flagship couple. It's pretty obvious that Mimi is gay for Totori in Meruru's game but Totori always seemed ambiguous about it. At best, even after two games, they seem like "work in progress".

But Meruru never treats Keina as her subordinate and Keina will always follow Meruru regardless. As a matter of fact, Keina was no longer obligated to serve Meruru after she moved out of the castle in the beginning of the game. Keina continued to visit Meruru because she can't live without her.

Also, in one of my favorite event, it showed that Keina is born with godly luck but she considered that meeting Meruru was her greatest blessing. That's the kind of love and devotion that even yuri haters can't deny.

I do agree that Mimi adorable, but Keina is a rare beauty that can pull off the short hair look. She also hides amazing figure under that loose dress. Which is some thing *ahem* Mimi doesn't have.

Looking at my previous post, it probably sounded like I don't have a high opinion of Toto/Mimi, but that's not the case at all. Nah, they're actually below TotoMimi by quite a bit. Both in ship quality and canonity. Still a good couple, of course, but they just don't play in the same ballpark. You can easily dismiss Meruru/Keine as just friends or faithful servant/master (That is what the pairing is actually modelled after, it just happens to be really shippable for yuri fans, too, just like Sam/Frodo for yaoi fans), while it's impossible to do this with TotoMimi without being fully retarded and flat out ignoring canon.

Just finished it a moment ago so I can finally post some thoughts on it.

First off, there's no hetero subtext. That being said, there's about an even amount of guys and girls so be prepared for Sophie interacting and being friendly with both. As for yuri subtext, I could see some between Sophie and Plachta. The better scenes with them don't come until later though and I should also mention that Plachta gets her doll form half way through the game. Several characters do comment on how close they are too. The strongest subtext comes from the ending CG that has Sophie and Plachta holding hands and blushing. It's a cute scene and the music makes it even better. The game still isn't as yuri as Meruru but I still think it's very yuri-friendly overall. You will need goggles though but they don't need to be that thick. I'm not sure how the anon above couldn't even squint to see it. Don't go into this game with high expectations of nonstop yuri though.

The game itself is very good too. The combat, alchemy, and soundtrack all deliver and it's one of the few tasteful JRPG series in my opinion. From that image of Ilmeria licking Firis's cheek, the next game may be even more yuri.

When can we expect a Shallie Plus localization announcement? I sold my PS3 when I was in the middle of the game, so never managed to finish it.

Also, Totori Plus is on sale right now.

Ayesha is somewhat neutral overall. No yuri but not a ton of hetero either. There are some characters that are clearly straight in it though. I think some people pair Ayesha with Keith but I'm not sure there was much behind that. I like Ayesha with Tanya and Nio with Wilbell. Great game in general and second best Dusk game.

E&L was definitely hetero. You can still enjoy characters like Wilbell and Nio for example since they never do anything that indicates that they're straight though. You still need to just get through it if you intend on playing the full Dusk trilogy. It's still a very tasteful game and it's not that bad but I hope they never go back to male MCs. Buy it used though and don't give Gust money for it. It's true that Logy isn't a bad guy or anything but I definitely don't like him. Atelier games can have guys in them but the girls should always be the majority and focus.

Shallie is actually my favorite Dusk game. I like the combat the most and it was the yuri-est in my opinion. There was zero hetero in it other than one guy who likes Linca7 as well Escha and Logy. On the other hand, I know I'm pretty much alone on this but I still think it's very possible to pair the Shallies together. An OT3 with them and Miruca is good as well. Overall, the game had more females in it too and you get lots of Miruca and Wilbell events early on if you pick Lotte. I really liked this aspect of it. I don't know why it gets hate but Shallie is one of my favorite Atelier games along with Meruru, Totori, and Sophie. Meruru is still my favorite though. Of course, I've only played the PS3 version so I don't know if they did anything to ruin the game in the Plus version. I'm assuming there's some new EschaLogy events since Logy returns in it but hopefully they didn't do anything to the Shallies, Miruca, or Wilbell.

I don't know how I feel about this. I kind of just wish they never had these two in this series in the first place and just kept them in Dusk. I'm a fan of yuri between two loli so I'm glad three new loli were introduced but they'll still probably make Escha straight for Logy. Even Esty who's always looking for a husband still takes her job very seriously and is respected because of that. Almost girl in Ayesha seems to think being a wife and mother is more important than everything.

Meruru, Totori and Rorona would at times even seek to be a warrior/adventurer. Ayesha gets offended everytime someone says she's strong, saying that's not how a girl should be.

Even on the yuri side. Arland did tease it a lot, and never actually tried to fully deny it. Still, Aeysha has a entire scene between her and Regina saying that's really impossible that two girls could be together.

There's not really het canon in Arland either. Most teasing, just like yuri. But that's another thing.

The Dusk Trilogy was pretty bad for yuri in general, though Shallie was alright. Don't forget the series started out as being about frail girls needing handsome strong bodyguards to go outside and they thought it needed male protagonists to focus more on adventure. The series has really moved forward.

But still, even in Rorona you still have Cory getting moist for the king when she's supposed to. Be tsundere for Rorona.

What I saw of the promo art with Firis and Ilmaria wasn't being shy about the yuri, though.
